PPV prices are ridiculous now, and then an extra $5-10 if you want to watch it in HD. It's a rip off and people are choosing other ways to watch it. Can't blame them. Or they could, you know, not watch and find out about it later.

I just think it's a matter of PPV prices being too ridiculous and there being too damned many of them.
I'd go on about nothing happening on the PPV mattering, but eh...it doesn't matter.

There's no way thats correct. not everyone's a bum or Internet nerd. Not to mention has the attention span to sit in front of a computer for 3 hours and watch a show of dubious quality. Also there's the people just can't watch something when it's not live. Also people who watch with their friends, and you don't invite the guys over to watch a stream. You dont have to be an internet nerd to know how to find a stream. It takes hardly any effort. I mean im not saying everybody does it but 5 or 6 thousand doesnt sound plausable to me.

Do you think most of the people who are in the GDT's for PPVs actually PAID for the PPV? lol. Maybe a few a year per person, but no one in their right mind is plunking down around $650 a year on WWE PPV

I think it's good that 280,000 people bought something that is easily accessible on the internet for free, and is then all over YouTube and Dailymotion the next day. Really, isn't the day of the PPV dead with the rise of the Internet? You would think so but apparently the estimates of people streaming the show are as low as five or six thousand. If the PPV era was dead and gone then what would explain the huge success of UFC events over the past couple of years? I am sure they will do a huge number at the end of this month too. UFC buyrates have declined, they're estimated to sell 2-3 million less this year than last year. In a couple of years they'll be doing WWE-like buyrates if the trend keeps up. Just because they're popular right now doesn't mean that the market is good.

Looking at the WWE corporate site. Looking at the fourth quarter buyrates from October-November. Minus what Vengeance and Hell in a Cell got, then the Survivor Series buyrate is left. 322,000. Its actually quite good.

Prices are TERRIBLE, and you can watch on Dailymotion/Megavideo etc the day after without issue.

Update from Meltzer Yikes. That definitely does not bode well for Wrestlemania. I'm sure it'll still do a decent number, but I'm not so sure about them setting any records this year.

I just thought of another point...
WWE '12 came out only a few days after Survivor Series. What if people decided that they'd rather spend their $60 on that game instead of buying the PPV? I know not everyone is a gamer who watches WWE, but clearly a lot of people were interested in that game due to the unusually outstanding and updated roster, and all the various improvements they implemented this year. I bet that factored into it to some extent.

If WWE went back to Rumble, Mania, Summerslam and a proper Survivor Series, I'd be a buyer of all.
However at the insane prices and the fact I work most Sunday nights, I won't buy a PPV cept for Mania every year.
I got MITB this year because of a rare Sunday night off and was super happy I did.
Too many PPVs that aren't special or meaningful and too much free WWE content weekly on TV.

Prices are TERRIBLE, and you can watch on Dailymotion/Megavideo etc the day after without issue. And that had a lot of play into why things are so bad. Mayby if people did not steal, they would not have to raise prices, and yes I KNOW that it becomes Circualr logic, but just becsuse you can does not make it right

Heck, people have been pirating stuff like that for a long time, even during their hottest periods. And honestly most people who pirate stuff would be willing to pay money for it if they felt the product was worth the price. And the ones that don't will likely never stop, even if they lowered the prices to five bucks a pop.

Like I said, if you want to watch all of the PPVs nowadays, you are going to be stealing a few, unless you are insane

Streams area big part of the buyrate problem. There is no way that only 6000 people are illegally streaming PPVs. It's so easy for people to stream over the internet and for people to find these illegal streams.
