I too am annoyed by the shirt/tights trend going on right now. That being said, I would still take this over that 2003-2006 period where EVERYONE, heel or face, was wearing a suit or business-casual attire during promos and backstage skits. The WWE reeked of Banana Republic at the time and I get the feeling everyone was forced to dress that way because Trips was doing it in Evolution.

The more I think about it, someone needs to come out wearing a cloak or a cape. No one talks about it, the wrestler doesn't bring it up, its just there.

Depends on the character.
It makes no sense for Del Rio, A Mexican aristocrat, to come out in t-shirts and tights.
For someone like CM Punk however who has a "No gimmicks necessary" thing going on, it does.

Could you imagine LOD come out wearing t-shirts on TV and only using the spiked shoulder pads for PPVs? Or Bret ditching the glasses and leather jacket for his latest piece of merch?

Most of the guys that wear T-shirts and panties(I call them as I see them) look like slumber party POWs.
