Kinda want to cozy up today and watch 2001's massive cult hit* Valentine. *By massive cult hit, I mean a cult of one, who is me. Nope, I'm also a fan!

No joke, I first stumbled upon it on Starz or something back when I was much younger and the Cupid mask actually scared the shit out of me. Also, the kill scenes are fantastic.

No joke, I first stumbled upon it on Starz or something back when I was much younger and the Cupid mask actually scared the shit out of me. Also, the kill scenes are fantastic. It came out in the theater when I was an angst-ridden teenager. The cast was hot, the jokes were funny, and the thought of living vicariously through a nerdy character getting revenge on the popular kids who bullied him appealed to me.

The Evil Dead 2 *bluray* I haven’t seen this movie in something like 42,000 years. I don’t like it as much as the first one since it turned the camp comedy up so high. The makeup and effects were still great but the first one legit scares the shit out of me. This one does not. But still a landmark/genre defining movie.

Evil Dead is great. Evil Dead 2 is fun but not great. Army of Darkness is neither fun or great. Ash vs Evil Dead tv show is fun and great.

2001 Maniacs: Field of Screams* *DVD* Even though this was essentially the same as the first movie (even a lot of the same cast)...it f***ing sucked. Lots of boobs but I can see those anywhere. The violence was tame as shit. Most of it happens off screen and is reduced to blood splatter. And the sound editing is so f***ing terrible. I’d say that’s the worst offender but that’s ignoring the plot and writing. Hucklebilly from the first movie returns and he’s kinda funny. And it had Ahmed Best, who sings hillbilly music and sounds like Jar Jar when he does it. That was f***ing hilarious and makes the movie actually worth watching.

2001 Maniacs was pretty damn good. The sequel was tripe.

Willy’s Wonderland 2021
This film can be broken down into three intermixed parts.
1/3 Generic slasher movie with generic slasher cast.
1/3 Nicolas Cage doing menial chores with a professional proficiency that would keep a consistent 5-star rating unless his employer was upset at the lack of small talk.
1/3 Nicolas Cage fighting a surprising large amount of evil animatronic characters who blend from CGI to People in suits.
And I enjoyed 2/3rds of the film.

Ash vs Evil Dead was an absolute love letter to the movie trilogy. They nailed everything that made those movies both scary and fun. We got far more bang for our buck than just an Evil Dead 4.

The Children (2009)* *DVD* I like children (I even have a couple of my own) but this movie will make you want to see children die. They just run around. Scream. Cough on everything. Kill their parents. Vomit. I mean yeah they’re infected by an unknown parasite that turns them into psychopathic monsters. But they’re pretty f***ing annoying in this movie. Some of the parents were too thought. There weren’t to many people I didn’t want to see die in this one. I was worried this one would be too scary for my liking and while it tetered right on the line it never crossed over. I was also worried because it was released by a pretty mainstream company that it would suck to much ass but it didn’t. The gore was pretty good. The music really set the mood right. If you like stuff like Village of the Damned and the Shining you should like this.

Slave/Mountain of the Cannibal God* *DVD* I really should have been paying more attention to this movie (especially since I paid money for it) but I was really just in and out depending on the music. It had some good gore but the main violence and offensiveness was animal on animal violence. So you may as well watch nature documentaries. This just had some boobs added to the mix. Still kinda cool. I’ll probably come back and watch it again some other time and actually pay attention. Or I’ll watch Cannibal Holocaust again for the full Monty.

Guinea Pig 6...or 4...or 5: Android of Notre Dame *bluray* I think the fact that no one even knows for sure what part is what number in the series makes this series even more awesome. There was always a discrepancy as to which part (this or Devil Woman Doctor) was part 4 and which was part 6 but on this set it doesn’t f***ing matter because this one is part 5. f*** it! Let’s have a party! This one was more an actual “movie” with a dwarven scientist performing procedures on his sick lover to extend her life. And pulling out her eyeballs. Because eyeballs are the windows to life. Or something. f*** I don’t know. These movies exceeded my expectations.

The Evil Dead *DVD* Given how many horror movies I watch it will probably come as a surprise that I really don’t like (“hate” even) being scared. Gore I love, which is why I watch so many zombie movies with pretty slow antagonists. People getting ripped apart doesn’t bother me one bit. But scary forget about it. Evil Dead is one movie that scared the shit out of me. I’ve seen it once before tonight and that was almost 22 years ago. But I figured it was time and it belongs in my collection. What really got to me all those years ago was the makeup and the voices of possessed. They’re so well done. The makeup still holds up to today’s standards and those voices still can drive you mad. It does get sillier than I remembered but only towards the end when it’s just Ash left. So today it didn’t really scare me except a little at the beginning before anything really happened and I liked it a lot more.

The Blob (1988)* *DVD* I had to put an asterisk beside this one because I don’t think I’ve ever sat down and watched it from start to finish until tonight. I’ve seen all the main points of interest here and there over the years. I really like it. It has the 1960’s sci-fi vibe with 1980’s horror execution. Plus some wicked gore usually reserved for movies far less mainstream. What I really liked was the twist where the guy you think is going to be tie main protagonist ends up being one of the first people to get melted (in utterly gruesome fashion). Highly enjoyable.

They don’t make ‘em like that anymore.

Rabid Grannies* *DVD* Very heavily inspired by Evil Dead, the Demons series and Bad Taste and a lot less comedy-ish than you’d think. The only really funny thing is the title, which changes the entire vibe of the movie. I suppose a normal “monster” would have been better as well. The big downer is that it’s really slow. That gives you more time to really hate the greedy family members but it was pretty easy to hate them all within the first five minutes. The gore and violence is really good (and doesn’t hold back, even with children) but it’s all too fast, furious and infrequent. I’d just have liked a better title and monsters because the rest is actually really good. Note: anyone interested in this movie take note that the 2004 Troma DVD cuts all the gore out and adds it to the deleted scenes. There’s a bluray release from the early 2010’s that restored the gore into the movie.

American Guinea Pig: the Song of Solomon *DVD* Even though I watched this a month or two ago for free on the streaming service Tubi this was one that needed to be in my personal collection. The acting is pretty bad but the story, atmosphere and gore make up for it all. Imagine the Exorcist meets Cannibal Holocaust.

Demonic/Forest of the Damned* *DVD* This is part of a compilation I bought something like last summer but every movie I watched got worse and worse so I put it on the shelf. But I’ve decided to try watch the last disc. This was pretty f***ing horrible. Bad acting. Cliche horror checklist writing. Boring. And one of the better ones included in said horrible compilation. The gore is at least decent. And it has the extremely hot Eleanor James wearing no clothes in every scene she’s in. That’s the only reason to watch this tripe.
