Jason X B+ I remember when this film leaked on the net like a year before it hit theaters. I watched a washed out VCD of it and wasn't impressed. Years later bought the DVD and it became one of my favorites in the franchise. Mostly cause all I want out of a Friday the 13th film is some inventive kills and maybe some nudity. This provides both. The sleeping bag kill is amazing. But I love the face smash towards the beginning. Why hasn't Lexa Doig become a big star? She's stuck in the perpetual loop of Hallmark Movie Mysteries at last check.

Curious why you hated it? I catch crap for hating Friday 7. For me the story is blah,it is obviously way way edited and for all the praise Kane Hodder gets I don't think he was that good as Jason. I found the film's "We know these characters are stupid, that's the joke" style of humor to be obnoxious. I'm still not in love with it, but it's fine.

So I can't believe I haven't shared this here before, but Kerry Noonan who played Paula in Friday the 13th Part 6 was a professor at my college during my time there. I didn't get to have a class or even get a chance to speak with her and I deeply regret it (though it's probably for the best she didn't get to meet my weird, awkward college self).
Her husband was also a professor there and he's a former member of Gaelic Storm a.k.a. The band that plays on the ship in Titanic.

57. Society* *tubi* Not a hell of a lot happens in this movie but having read spoilers knowing what was going to happen in the end made it all the more enjoyable. It’s all just setting up what is going to happen. It’s a good slab of forgotten 1980’s horror. The music is very familiar to a lot of what I’ve watched the last few years. And when it does happen holy cow. I love seeing peoples first reaction to that entire end sequence and then love even more seeing their post trauma lol I am a sick person lol

Feast II: Sloppy Seconds *DVD* A lot of people don’t like the Feast sequels but I honestly do. The cast isn’t quite as enjoyable and it’s more “action” and “comedy” than “horror” (even though the first one was a combination of all three it was a little more horror). It doesn’t quite turn the genre upside down like the first one did, except the hilarity of Honey Pie getting the reverse treatment of every other hot blonde girl in a horror movie. There’s still lots of over-the-top gross out moments. And...the baby scene.

Feast III: the Happy Finish *DVD* If you watch part 2 of the Feast series you pretty much have to watch part 3 immediately afterwards. The two movies are one in the same although this one does kinda sit more in the middle of the first two in presentation. It’s the more comical of the three and serves as a good finale to a pretty darn good series.

My review of Contamination (1980)
Plot: After a shipment of deadly alien eggs arrives in New York City, a government agent launches an investigation that leads to a Columbian coffee plant growing a whole batch of them.
Bless Italian exploitation cinema of the ‘70s and ‘80s and its utter shamelessness in producing ripoffs of hit American movies! What a wonderful era—to have huge Stateside smashes like Jaws and Dawn of the Dead followed up with Italian cash-ins The Last Shark and Hell of the Living Dead. For all their plagiarism and rifeness for mockery, not only are many of these films maddeningly entertaining in their own right, they’re also way more fun than several other works pretending to be anything but a money-grabbing clone.
When Alien changed the face of horror/sci-fi forever, it was inevitable the Italians would serve up their own quickie imitations to get a piece of that chest-bursting cash. Contamination is just one of the few to be made during this illustrious period. Even director Luigi Cozzi admitted it’s a complete Alien ripoff (and also that it was partially funded by the Columbian drug trade?!?). I do think Cozzi isn’t giving himself enough credit—this is surprisingly well-made. And it’s not exactly a direct copy of Alien, either. In fact, for long stretches, the stories for both couldn’t be any more different. It even borrows from other movies. Several parts feel taken from a James Bond adventure or Lucio Fulci’s Zombie, right down to the casting of Ian McCulloch in a starring role. It’s taking a little bit from column A, a little bit from column B, and even a pinch from columns C thru Z.
I don’t want to get things mixed up, though. Alien’s influence is definitely felt. You love the chest-bursting scene in that movie, right? Well, Contamination is ready to give that to you times a hundred. The story here is that deadly alien eggs are set loose on Earth, spewing acid that makes human bellies go boom. It happens so frequently and graphically throughout it earned the movie a place on the Video Nasties list. And there is an alien here, albeit not until the last 15 minutes and it sometimes looks like something from Sesame Street. As the main protagonist, Louise Marleau as Col. Stella Holmes is clearly meant to be our Ripley, even if she has negative zero charisma.
I wish the movie stuck to riding Alien’s coattails more often. When it tries to create a new movie of its own, it kinda flops. For every gory chest-burst, it also tries giving an equal amount of time to the science behind it all and gets weighted down in excessive talkiness. I suppose it’s a noble idea to give more backstory than the plot deserves, but there’s also no reason why we should care. Not even Ridley Scott gave so much backstory into his monster or the hows and whys of the eggs, which is partly what made it so frightening. There’s also a dumb and thoroughly unconvincing romantic subplot involving Holmes and the obnoxious Tony Aris played by Marino Mase. Their sexual tension, and I use that term loosely, comes to a climax where they’re tied up and faced with near-certain death, leading to an incredibly awkward kiss. With lovers like this, I’d rather face death.
If you’re coming into Contamination expecting the dirt worst, it’s going to exceed your expectations. But once it tries to stand on its own two feet and shed its Alien skin, it can’t quite hold its own. It’s a weird thing to say, but its biggest weakness is that it doesn’t plagiarize enough.

I was planning to watch CONTAMINATION back in October but my DVD decided to stop working and I never got around to replacing it. But yeah, my recollections of the film are those gory stomach explosions, and a bonus feature where either Cozzi or one of the producers wished they hired a sexier female for the lead. None of the character stuff sticks out.

I love that movie. Joe Bob aired it last season on The Last Drive in.
Thinking in a bit I will watched the TNT cut of Needful Things. Not sure how well known this is,but TNT had a longer cut of Needful Things made. Which adds almost an hour worth of cut footage back to the film.

Seedpeople* *Tubi* Another C or D-level Invasion of the Bodysnatchers rip-off. I was impressed that the little guys on the cover are actually in the movie and don’t look bad at all. Too bad the gore was low because it would have pushed this movie into a higher stratosphere.

64. Frightmare* *bluray* This one did take a long time to get to the “meat” of the story but it was still rather enjoyable. A British somewhat-take of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre only much more suburban and clean. The cast were all really good, especially the lady that played the mom. The gore was good but they didn’t focus on it as much as they should have. My biggest problem was Debrah Fairfax not wearing a bra the entire movie and her boobs hanging out in most scenes but never going all in. I liked this one.

For fans of this one I’d suggest the Full Moon triple feature DVD its on that also has Oblivion and Oblivion 2: Backlash. Seedpeople is the only pure horror movie on that set but the Oblivion films are so much fun. The plot can basically be summed up as cowboys in outer space. Oblivion 2 was also the last Full Moon film to benefit from big studio financing as Paramount cut ties with them during production. After that Full Moon made some crappy films. Well, even crappier than normal anyway. Both movies also feature a slew of people who were thought of as fairly washed up at the time but are held in better regard now. Folks like George Takei, Isaac Hayes, Julie Newmar, etc. Anyway Amazon has that set for under $8 with Prime shipping

Faim de Mort trilogy* *DVD* Part one A man wakes up in a drunken stupor and hits his head in the kitchen en route to get something to eat. When he awakens he’s accosted by various grisly spectres which he dispatches in equally as grisly a manner. Then various parts of their carcasses turn to food and he eats them. Extremely gory and disturbing but also funny thanks to the soundtrack (Strauss’ “Blue Waltz” aka “that song from 2001: A Space Odyssey”) and the imagery of stuff like fingers turning into gummie bears. Part two The man is still eating the carcass of what may have been his wife but it also appears as though he in fact died when he hit his head. Then a bunch of grisly ass stuff happens. That’s really all I can say. This one looks much better than the previous part. Part three The man did indeed die at the beginning of part one and he comes back as a ghost himself to witness (presumably) his wife/Satan dismembering HIS corpse. Some wicked visuals in this portion that were a little lost by the comical sound effects. This was one f***ED UP movie. It was like Evil Dead 2 meets the Vomit Gore trilogy meets Loony Toons. That sounds like a joke but that’s really what it was. The IMDB page even calls it “comedy” before “horror”. My only problem was paying full price for a 35 minute video that should have just been bonus features on a full length. Some wonderful gore makeup and prosthetics though. And the unnamed actor does a great job in the silent role.

American Guinea Pig: Bouquet of Guts and Gore* *DVD* Whoa nelly, I am going to hell for this one. Very similar to the second Japanese Guinea Pig except this time it’s a larger group of sadists and two girls. They dismember the girls much slower. And the guy wearing a goat skull while doing it is much cooler than a samurai. But Flowers of Flesh and Blood was much more effective in pretty much every way. Not to say I couldn’t take my eyes off this. The music was f***ing incredible. But the acting (even though it was all voice overs) was absolutely abysmal.

The Haunting of Rebecca Verlaine/Garden of Love/Born Undead/makes some of the other stuff I watch look like Shakespeare* *DVD* This past weekend I watched the Asylums AVH: Alien verses Hunter, Sharknado 2 and American Guinea Pig: Bouquet of Guts and Gore (the latter of which I actually loved) and yet this manages to take the trophy for worst of the worst, and by a landslide. The intro scene was pretty cool and this did have some really good gory scenes but the writing, dear God this could’ve been written by an 15-year-old in less time than it took to watch it. The sound editing and acting was equally as bad. It ended up I just laughed my ass off as I watched it. Part Hellraiser meets those crazy Kiwi gore movies. And thank the Goddess it had such an over the top gory sequence around 45 minutes in. That honestly earned it a couple extra notches. So bad it has to be seen.

70. Uninvited (1993)* *dvd* Just a slow...boring...lower-than-low budget...thriller. That isn’t thrilling. Nothing happens aside from some moral struggles. Even Jack Elam (in his final role) couldn’t be bothered to be in the movie for more than three minutes. This brings a close to this abysmal collection of movies I think I bought in November and it took me this long to work my way through it. It’s called “Blood Bath” but it’s just all bad, d-horror movies. The one I watched the other night called the Haunting of Rebbeca Verlaine was good for some over-the-top gore. And any of the ones with Fiona Horsey at least had her getting naked A LOT. But avoid this at all costs. Even if it’s $2 you’re getting ripped off. The movies included: (Penetration) Angst A Brush With Death The Chambermaid Death on Demand Demonic Hallowed Harvest of Fear The Haunting of Rebecca Verlaine Red Riding Hood Shadows of the Dead The Twisted Sisters Uninvited
