Lung II* *DVD* So I bought the Lung set from Unearthed Films which includes both movies. Lung II seems to be the feature of the two though so I watched it first. It’s also commonly referred to as “Lung”. But there is another movie here called “Lung”, of which there is zero information of on the international. Anytime I googled “Lung movie” I was redirected to Lung II. ...which is also the second part of the Flowers series. So I don’t know what is going on. And I’m putting way too much thought into it anyway. Whatever movie I watched here was f***ing awesome, surreal imagery. It’s like a modern Begotten...just nowhere near as punishing to the senses. Maybe it’s best to compare it to the middle ground between the visuals Trent Reznor wished he could produce in the 1990’s and that movie (Begotten), with a modern touch. Not a word is spoken and there is no real story to speak of, but I couldn’t take my eyes off of it. 10/10

Found my DVD-R with the 2010/2011 Elvira's Movie Macabre airing of The Terror. My lady had never seen the film so we put it on. Since this DVD-r has the ad breaks I would explain to her during the commericals the history of the film. Like how it had 5 or 6 directors, depending on if you believe Jack Hill or Roger Corman. Sure the film doesn't make a lot of sense. And it being filmed over a year lots of stuff stands out. Like how Dick Miller's sideburns change from scene to scene. Still if you have an interest in low budget film making and enjoy gothic horror films,This is worth seeing. It is Public Domain. So copies are all over Youtube and the Internet Archive. I have an interest in Elvira Did her most recent run of Movie Macabre air up there in Canada? I know every episode got released to DVD. Sucks that it lasted one season and all she showed was the same PD films every other modern horror host shows.

Or when she did a online show hosting a bunch of Full Moon stuff.

Lung One* *DVD* Visually this was pretty much exactly the same as the first one...the second one...the other one, except maybe a bit blurrier. A lot of the same sets are rescued and many scenes are repeated but played out played out differently. So clearly it was all filmed at the same time and just broken up to tell two different stories. The one I watched last night being about...I don’t know. And this one being about...I don’t know that either. But this time the single character in the movie goes into a slummy urban area where he just sees more corpses and nothingness. That makes it sound like I didn’t like it which is completely wrong. I really enjoyed it. For a few moments I was thinking it would’ve been better if both parts were edited down into one 80 minute movie but nah. I like them as they are.

Tammy and the T-rex gore cut
Joe Bob Briggs aired this on Valentines day, along with The Love Witch. Now I've never seen the original cut of this movie, but this cut is fairly decent. Best acting I have seen from Denise Richards. Feels like this movie would have been forgotten if not for Paul Walker and Richards being 2 of the leads. But hey it also has Buck Flowers in it. And Buck isn't playing a bum or drunk.
3.5 outta 5 stars.

Anthropophagous 2000* *DVD* While this has Andreas Schnaas trademark over the top gore effects (and some well made prosthetic heads) it’s ultimately just kind of boring. It lacks that sleazy factor of the original. And if you hadn’t seen the original you’d have no idea what’s going on because it jumps all over the place and the subtitles are sometimes omitted. It still has a baby scene, because if you’re doing anything Anthropophagous related you have to have a baby scene. And it has a pike scene, because I guess Schnaas had recently watched Cannibal Holocaust too. The origin scene of the killer is the stuff all fans of cheesy horror should witness.

Violent Shit *DVD* After being a little disappointed by Andreas Schnaas’ take on Anthropophagous I decided to revisit his magnum opus for probably the fifth time in the last six months. Art-haus at its most glorious. The cinematography, set designs, camera work and direction are all the things lesser directors like Martin Scorwhatshisname and Stanley Kubrick dreamt of their entire careers but were never able to reach. A true masterpiece in the realm of filmmaking.

Finally watched season 1 of Creepshow someone got me the Blu-ray of for Christmas. I heard some bad stuff about it going in, but enjoyed it enough. I like the two episode format since I always think these kind of anthologies work best in a 30 minute or less format. So 45 minute episodes split into two works for me. Of course don’t even think of expecting the quality of the original Creepshow or Creepshow 2. But I’m the guy who even got some enjoyment from Creepshow 3. I’ll say the same thing about this series as Creepshow 3. Go in with very low expectations and you might be pleasantly surprised. I also finally got around to watching The Baby Sitter: Killer Queen. It was about as fun as the original with no big quality drop or boost either way. I enjoyed those movies and would be down for a third

Masterblaster. 1987.
Mostly an action flick that portrays its death count straight out of a horror film, naked titties, gore and all.
Treated as a whodunnit and I honestly was as surprised at the killers identity as I was incredilous at his ridiculous motive.
Tries to cash in on horror movies, martial arts movies and the limited paintball craze taking place at the time.
The acting is terrible, the kills slow in starting, the story weak, but all in all bad enough that it makes it good.
3 paintball testicles out of 5.

84. Aftermath (2014)* *DVD* I bought this thinking it was another movie called Aftermath. Turns out what I was looking for was an early-1990’s Spanish gore flick, this was an early-2010’s mid-tire Netflix post apocalyptic thriller/horror movie. It honestly wasn’t too bad at all. It was basically “Fallout (the video game) - the movie”, mixed with Night of the Living Dead. I didn’t like that they included a younger kid who looked almost exactly like my oldest son. But that added to the depression of the story. It would have been cool if there were more mutants and shit running around but whatever.

The Brood* *DVD* This was really cool but what interested me more than the story or the gory effects was Oliver Reeds performance. The guy commanded every scene he was in and owned every line of dialogue. Even if you don’t like horror movies or David Cronenburghs brand of weirdness watch it just to see that guy. It does start out and stay fairly normal for most of its runtime but then it just gets f***ed right up in its finale. And downright terrifying.

My review of The Grudge (2004)
Plot: An American nurse living Tokyo is exposed to a powerful curse which travels from host to host, leaving a trail of bodies and ghosts in its wake.
I’ve seen the original Ju-On: The Grudge only once. I was unimpressed. It was just a repetitive series of segments featuring Blue Meanie ghosts haunting their next victim, complete with a story I couldn’t quite put together. As much as I’d like to say it walked so its American remake The Grudge could run, that’s not entirely true. The Grudge owes its existence just as much to the success of The Ring, which itself is a remake of Ringu. When The Ring proved a big hit, Hollywood took one look at the thriving J-horror scene and said, “Screw it, we’ll buy the whole farm, please.” Thusly, Ju-On would become just one of the many J-horror films to get an American adaptation throughout the ‘00s. And since it’s not that great of a movie anyway, a remake sounds like a great opportunity to smoothen out its rougher edges, right?
Unfortunately, while The Grudge is slicker and a bit more focused than the original, it suffers from much of the same problems. The non-linear format is a neat little narrative trick, but it doesn’t suit this story well. Whenever the story in the present begins picking up, we’re immediately transported to a snippet of the past that throws off the pacing. If it were told linearly, we could’ve gotten all this backstory in the opening minutes. Instead, we’re forced to work for it, and it’s not until the finale where it’s revealed what’s behind the film’s curse anyway. The story doesn’t make a lot of sense even then. Imagine buying one of those big puzzle sets, only to look at the image you pieced together and still be like “Huh?” That’s exactly how it feels watching this movie.
That, and I just don’t find it scary at all. I know people get a thrill out of the throaty rattle noise from its various ghosts, but I personally find it annoying. Have you ever been near someone making that noise? Doesn’t it make you want to throw a shoe at their face? Speaking of the ghosts, they feel ripped straight out of the VHS tape from The Ring. Again, I know some people are seriously creeped out by them; they just do nothing for me. The one scene that gets anywhere close to scary is Ted Raimi encountering his now-zombified employee in a dimly lit office. Her face is mired in hair and shadow, only to reveal she’s missing her whole ass jaw! I’m sure the middle schoolers who rented this from Blockbuster for their sleepover shrieked at that.
Sarah Michelle Gellar is an unsung hero as the lead, I think. She already has a proven track record of doing the most with the meager scraps she’s given. After all, this is a person who sold the hell out of Daphne f**king Blake twice! She absolutely sells the big moments here and it’s not at all coincidental that its most enduring scenes are her reactions to the deadly curse brought upon her. I mean, how many times did that shower scene with the hand popping out of her skull show up in TV spots? That’s probably the first thing you think when The Grudge is mentioned, ain’t it? The non-linear storytelling sadly results in us not being able to spend as much time with her character as we probably should. A shame, as it could’ve resulted in a better movie.
As far as remakes go, you can do much worse than The Grudge. In fact, apparently a lot of people in 2004 thought the same. It did good numbers at the box office and even got a sequel and a 2020 reboot. You’re really not missing out, though; there are a couple of memorable scenes but you can just watch Scary Movie 4 to get the gist of those.

Doom Asylum* *Tubi* Another 1980’s horror-comedy but this one somehow lowered the bar even lower. It was on par with a Troma film in terms of the quality of acting and silliness of some of the writing (some of which was actually very clever) but not as goofy with the gore. It had Kristen Davis in her first film role and I’ve always found her extremely attractive. No difference here. And it had Patty Mullen (aka Frankenhooker) but she was nowhere near as hilarious in this one. Still an enjoyable way to spend an hour and fifteen minutes.

Watched something called BLUE MONKEY (1987) the other day. Had very little monkey in it. Was actually about like weird mutant bugmen who somehow spawn from a bacterial infection on a gardener or something? Honestly, the monster origins are weird and confusing... But most of the movie is weird and confusing. The title comes from a dream one of the roving child cancer patients had.... The hospital is also performing LASER EXPERIMENTS. The hospital also has a basement tunnel system where they "used to keep the dangerous patients" (what?). Etc etc. So you definately have to turn off your brain and just enjoy the absurdity of it all.
And if you do turn of your brain it is quite enjoyable. Decent gore and gross out effects (Albeit not enough of them) - we have decapitations, worms shaped like turds crawling out of and onto people, and probably the most disturbing thing is cocooned victims being eaten alive with various parts of their body already digested. The special effects aren't that bad either, at least the creature effects and what not. The main monster looks pretty neat.
The characters are all pretty drab. The principle characters are Cop Man, hospital lady, and bug doctor (who ends up being like the real hero cause the first two are soooo worthless - including cop man leading the killer bug through crowds of trapped patients cause it is after him for killing it's lover or something). Unfortunately they decide to throw in the random group of annoying children who almost completely ruin the movie.
I liked this quite a bit despite it's faults - maybe I was just in a good mood. Anyways, I'd give it a 3.5 out of 5. It's a pretty silly but entertaining creature feature I had never heard of. Easy to riff on with friends cause some of the plot points are so dumb.

Colossus. The Forbin Project. 1970
Though this plays as a sci fi thriller the subject matter is pure horror so I have decided to put it here.
This H.A.L. on a world wide scale made for an exciting picture despite it having a slow pace and tons of dialogue.
And it is always fascinating to see Eric Braeden in non soap projects (pun very much intended).
It carries an impressive cast and has several black actors playing characters in a position of power, which I belive was pretty unique in 1970.
Best part is that the supercomputer does not start out being self aware but slowly becomes such (and increasingly threatening) as the picture progresses. It even uses translators rather than having all the sovjet characters speaking English.
My first priority now is to the track down the sequel to the book this is based on to see how it continues from the ending of the film.
Highly recommended.
5 Victor Newman's out of 5.
