Blood Link. 1982.
What a lurid, sleazy little number this was, though unless you are just that type of person do not expect to get any enjoyment out of the tits and ass on display.
This will test your patience at times, due to its slow and sometimes boring pace, but the movie is perfectly held together by the usual excellent performance by Michael Moriarty. Two for the price of one nonetheless.
And a haunting score by Ennio Morricone elevates things even further.
Kudos to the movie for giving me the saddest on screen death I have seen, especially for how prolonged it is. He just wanted to continue to be a contendah.
Worth an overnight rental as they used to say.
3 Basic Instinct inspirations out of 5.

Laserblast. 1977. When I heard of the movie I looked forward to some cheesy fun and was I ever in the wrong. It was just cheesy. Which would have been great if they had embraced it from start to finish rather than have a boring slow build the movie did not deserve. I did like the aliens, even though they looked like stop motion done with a little boy's toys. The lead was a decade too old to play a teenager and he worked better as a creepy possessed monster. And I liked seeing the nerd from Grease play an asshole. The explosions was very impressive but there was so many of them it became tedious after a while and the laser's power was very inconsistent. Worth a one time watch if you have nothing else to do. 2 Leatherface-like tantrums out of 5. Also the laser is blatantly a painted cardboard tube.

Yep. Guru the Mad Monk should be on Youtube. I never gave a crap about his movies until Video Watchdog did a 3 issue long article on him. Started re-watching Milligan's films and became a fan. Severin Films just put out a blu-ray set with a bunch of Milligan's flicks on it. Did you pick that up? I'm not familiar with the man's work, but I know a couple of his films are on Tubi, so I plan on checking them out soon. I'm tempted to order the Severin set. But right now saving up money for a new video camera.

Anyone get the Herschell Gordon Lewis Feast set from Arrow? It seems pretty impressive.
I like that all his gore films are on there, but then do I *really* want to own a copy of Moonshine Mountain? Do I really want that?

Learned last year that the older guy that takes ringside pics at most BIW events was in Lewis class the short while Lewis taught at Mississippi State.

Unhinged (1982)* *DVD* This had all the makings of a 1980’s slasher (cool setting, deranged isolated family, naked girls, great music) but missed one key factor: no one died. I mean yes a few people died but I need a much higher body count than what this had (which was three, two in the last ten minutes) for me to call something a slasher you need to see. It was more the psychological side of Texas Chain Saw Massacre or the Hills Have Eyes. It was well done and had a great twist-ending but until the last ten minutes I couldn’t even tell how this was banned and on the video nasty list. It did become a little more apparent then, but even still considering some of the other stuff on that list this’ inclusion is baffling. Pretty negative review but still worth checking out.

Return to Return to Nuke'm High vol 2 Got the blu ray in the other day. After waiting close to 7 years the second half of the 4th Nuke'm High series is out. Starts off right where part 1 ended. This ain't bad but wow there is a pile of padding in the film. Feels like after vol 1 Troma had maybe 45 minutes of footage. So got Lloyd to film a bunch of stuff. They dug out some footage of Lemmy as POTUS. Added that to what they had filmed and boom we got a movie. Now I've only watched this once, and was also doing other stuff. But from what I saw Blade Braxton only shows up in once scene as a member of the Cretins. I know when I talked to him when Vol 1 came out he told me "Yea I will be all over vol 2." The blu ray set is 2 discs. The second disc has a making of documentary and a bunch of extras. Haven't watched any of that yet. Was slightly disappointed that the movie didnt have a commentary.

Hatchet *DVD* This one takes a little while to get going but when it does wow! There is some nasty kills in this one. Especially the two older people that get off’d first. Wow that mouth rip is awesome. I wanted to watch it...because I bought it and the two sequels. The first one (this one) belongs in any horror fans collection. Watching it a second time I was able to appreciate the slower beginning more and the character building, which really doesn’t matter in the end. My only real problem was Tony Todd was f***ing awesome at the beginning and that’s it for him. Man, if he’d have been the tour guide the entire movie that would have been a ride. All said and done though this movie should be this generations Friday tie 13th. I’m really looking forward to watching the sequels, which I’ve never seen.

I hope asking this doesn't derail the thread any, but I thought this would be a good place to ask:
Shudder has been doing a Halfway to Halloween sale, $2.99/mo for 6 mos, so I decided to give it a try. I was wondering if you guys had any recommendations, and specifically if you'd recommend the Creepshow series?
FWIW, I'm not particularly a gorehound. Like, Eli Roth movies I can't do. I enjoy more of the '80s slasher type stuff - the first thing I put on was the Joe Bob Briggs "version" of Tourist Trap - where it has this level of B-movie fun to it and I can have a laugh. It can't be too real, I guess you could say. I also love documentaries and look forward to tackling In Search of Darkness.
Thanks for any suggestions and help in advance!

Shudder is worth it for just the Joe Bob's Last Drive in. The Creepshow tv show... I tried out season 1 and made it 3 episodes in before I gave up.
Every year for Xmas my parents get me a year of Shudder. Which is 60 bucks. I love the movie selection they have. Was just watching Hack O Lantern on there. A film I had heard about but never seen.

Happy Hell Night* *DVD* A pretty decent, paint-by-the-numbers early-1990’s “hey, let’s make a horror movie” d-grade slasher movie. Bad acting. Cliche everything. A little slow but when it does get going some pretty good gore. And the killer is pretty f***ing wicked. Better pacing would have done it a world of favours. I’m not sure what made me buy this or want to see this but I did.

I enjoy the Creepshow series but will admit that there are times when you see the budget straining the limits of the story (The Creeper does look very fragile at times). If you don't mind that, it has a nice collection of short stories. As for movie suggestions based on your request, here's just a few suggestions (the site has so much, imo) I'd go with: Don't Panic -- where a bad Ouija board experience brings out a demon and the main character sees through its eyes during murders. It's incredibly B-level. Slasher stuff also makes me want to suggest Edge of the Axe. The Beast Must Die is about a rich dude who gathers a group of people to far-from-society estate to reveal that he knows one of them is a werewolf and he intends to hunt them down. The werewolf is just a big ol' doggie which I found absurdly adorable. Trust me and Fast forward the car chase scene. And I straight up love Uncaged which is "Hungry lion goes to the city." That one is gorier than the others, but I just enjoyed it too much not to bring it up. And the documentaries on the service are fantastic. Horror Noire even has a side podcast on the service where you can hear full interviews with the people from the doc (there is a anthology style podcast series as well that I don't recall off hand).

Finally watched The Purge. Great concept for a movie, but the execution didn’t do it for me. It has a bunch of sequels as well as a TV series I’m sure some of you folks have seen. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the sequels are superior as one of the first things I read about it was how the director would have shot it very differently if budget and time weren’t issues.

Thank you! At first glance based on your descriptions, Don't Panic seems like possibly the most intriguing to me. I *think* I have Horror Noire on my list, but I have to double check. I watched Why Horror the other day and it was fun. Nothing earth shattering, but I didn't regret watching it or anything. My favorite show is Supernatural, so I'm pretty easy on things that don't have the biggest budget. As long as the story grabs me, I'm good, so Creepshow probably wouldn't bother me at all.

In Search of Darkness is a good documentary on Shudder. Glad I didnt pay the 50 bucks they wanted for the documentary when it was coming out.

I saw a second one was just made, and I'm all but certain I'm gonna like the first one, so I already hope it makes its way onto Shudder too. Seems logical that it would, but when is probably another story.

Joe Bob's Last Drive In started the new season tonight.
First film was Mother's Day,the original. And now it is Fulci's House by the cementery.
