Had a buddy that ordered the first In Search of Darkness documentary. It shipped months late and IIRC was a burnt dvd not a pressed one.
The same people are also doing a long form documentary on sci fi films. I'm just gonna wait for them to hit Shudder to see them.

Hatchet 2* *DVD* Picking up right from the moment the first movie left off this one offers way more over the top violence and gore; pretty much to the point where it’s comical. There are some good characters in this one led by Tony Todd in a much greater role than he had in the first movie. A little too comically driven for my tastes but still a great ride.

In Search of Darkness is a good documentary on Shudder. Glad I didnt pay the 50 bucks they wanted for the documentary when it was coming out. I enjoyed it and it introduced to me to a couple movies I bought because of it, but it's definitely not worth what they're asking for it. Not so much a documentary, rather just random talking heads saying "remember this?" moments. It's covers lots of movies but with like no substance whatsoever

I started a four zombie movie collection released by Scream Factory today. I’d highly recommend it as you can find it fairly cheap and all movies get their own disc rather than cramming them all onto one or two discs. Also, it has a slew of special features I’ll probably never get to! I started with The Battery (2012) which I read about a long while ago. It’s notable for supposedly being filmed on a $6,000 budget. But I don’t know how anything can look this good if it was filmed on $6,000 in 2012! It’s about two baseball players in a post apocalyptic zombie wasteland. As you might imagine special effects are minimal/pretty much non-existent. But the story kept me interested throughout. Even the shots that go on a long, long, looooooong time. I didn’t care for some things in the movie. Way too much of a music genre I don’t particularly care for. Folk? Indie? Indie folk? I don’t know what the kids were listening to in 2012. Also, I’m surprised with what little they had to work with they didn’t lean on more comedy. But it’s kind of impressive they didn’t. Comedy can be a crutch. Especially for low budget horror movies. Charles Band has made a roughly 50 year career out of that fact! It’s worth a watch and I could easily see someone with slightly different tastes falling in love with it. As it is I’ll probably revisit it at some point.

Explored the world of Wrath James White for the first time, with the Resurrectionist, and f*** me, not as relentless as expected but when shit happened, there was no holding back, graphic being an understatement. And as horrific as the ending was it left many terrific possibilities for a sequel.
As a lover of extreme fiction, would I be wasting my time with Jack Ketchum and Brian Keene?

I prefer Ketchum to Keene, but both are worth reading. Just for me Ketchum's batting average is way higher than Keenes. With WJW find a copy of Succulent Prey, that was the first thing of his I read and damn it shocked me a few times. If you haven't read him already check out Edward Lee. No idea how hard it would be to find now,the publisher went under years ago,but Triage is a great introduction to Lee. It was a book with three novellas. Each Novella has the same premise of someone enters a place of business and opens fire with a gun. The three authors in it are Richard Laymon(RIP),Edward Lee and Jack Ketchum(RIP). It was the first thing from Lee I ever read and made me into a big fan of his.Just found my copy of Lee's the Golem a few days ago might read that next. Have you read any Laymon? I've read close to 20 of his books and only two were crap. But his fiction is like a good 80s DTV b-horror movie. The Celler is one of his best.

Got it in from Netflix and was surprised at how good it is.Read years ago that the director had an idea for another story set in the same universe. But so far it hasn't happened.

Watching Blood & Flesh, the documentary about Al Adamson. The news footage at the beginning is narrated by none other than Sean Mooney.
I'm 99.99% certain it's Sean.

As soon as I discovered him years ago I tore through 32 of Laymons novels that are still proudly displayed at the top of my book shelf. Will definitely check out Ketchum and Keene after trying my first Bryan Smith book.

Try out Tim Lebbon if you haven't. I had never read anything from him then 5 or so years ago was given 4 huge boxs full of horror fiction. Picked out Tim Lebbon novel at random and loved it.

I guess I'd be remiss not to include David J. Schow in this mix. a couple years back he put out a best-of short fiction anthology series called DJStories and its a must read.

Watched another film on the Scream Factory four zombie movie collection. Cockneys vs Zombies (2012) A demolition crew finds a sealed off entrance and opens it up thinking there may be gold in there. But given the title of the movie I bet you can guess what they actually find. The movie is exactly what you’d expect. It’s a paint by numbers low brow horror comedy. I was about 99% sure that’s what it would be, but hey there was a 1% chance or less this could’ve been like Shaun of the Dead so I had to give it a chance. The bulk of the movie follows a group of young cockneys who attempt to rob a bank. The twist to their character is they are doing it to save their grandparents’ old folks home. Not really many original gags or creative deaths. At least the annoying guy who has to get killed is kind of fun. In this one he is a banker who keeps complaining he has a heart condition. Spoiler alert, the heart condition doesn’t kill him. If you’re addicted to zombie comedies and have to see every one then this would be a requirement. Otherwise I wouldn’t go out of your way to see this.

There are some beautiful German editions of his work: Flesh Gothic and Monstrosity are probably my favorites of his. I mentioned it earlier, a lot of people will recommend The Bighead but I'd stay away. Basically just Ed stewing in his worst habits, full of try-hard edginess and chapters that are basically unreadable because of the borderline offensive redneck dialect he insisted on writing them in.

DIE SAGE DES TODES (1981), alternatively known as BLOODY MOON, comes to us from director Jesus Franco. At the height of the slasher film's "golden age" of popularity, German producers wanted something similar and tapped Franco to direct the flick.
A group of sexy women stay at a resort/language school where they are murdered one-by-one in supremely gory style! Potential killers include a creepy mute groundskeeper, a handsome tennis player who is always found very nearby right after a killing, a man with an unexplained facial scar who killed a girl in the film's pre-credits sequence (though his psychiatrist assures us he's cured of the madness that cause the murder in the first place), and that man's sister, with whom he shares an incestuous relationship (ew).
Beautiful Olivia Pascal stars as our Final Girl, giving us appropriately wild screams at every opportunity. We're treated to scenes of disco dancing, corny dialogue (particularly when the main girls flirt with the tennis player), and a score that sounds like it includes that saw wobbling sound effect. Deaths include a girl being stabbed in the back, with the knife coming out through her breast on the other side, and another girl being decapitated by a giant circular saw (I should point out now the "SAGE" of the title has an umlaut over the a, and the title translates into English as "The Saw of Death").
It appears that a real live snake is actually killed for a scene in this, so animal lovers might be turned off to the film. But, if you're a fan of PIECES, you should get a kick out of BLOODY MOON!

Just watched the 6 parts to the short horror film series Death Park.
Made by someone you can tell is a huge horror fan. It is a series about a masked killer in a State Park running around killing people. The first 3 parts are fairly short and usually just have the killer showing up and killing someone in a pretty decently gory way.
By part 4 the story starts to expand and the parts become longer. Part 6 came out last year and was almost 40 minutes long. And they are working on Death Park:The End currently.
If you search for B-Movie TV on youtube you can watch every part. Also if you have a ROKU add these two channels to it.
B-Movie TV This is a free 24/7 live stream. Each day has a theme, like horror, martial arts, whatever. Every 2 hours a new movie starts. The only way to find out what they are airing is to tune in. Saturdays they air two different wrestling feds. This is perfect for when you want to watch something as background noise. And they air some hard to find movies.
The other channel is B-Movie TV on Demand. On this they got a pile of films/tv shows/cartoons/wrestling shows on demand. And on here you can find the 6 parts of Death Park.
Now word of warning both channels do not edit their programs. And stuff like The Pervy the Clown show, airs Saturdays at 11pm central, can get fairly graphic. Not like it is full on porn. But the few epiodes of Pervy I have seen were packed with full frontal nudity.

Also while it isn't horror it is a film that horror fans would like,I pre-ordered Arrow's Blu Ray of Switchblade Sisters. This 70s movie about an all female street gang is best known cause in the late 90s Quentin Tarentino's Rolling Thunder Pictures released it on VHS. The movie is a combo of Shakespeare mixed with 70s street gang movies.

Black Demons (aka the third Demons 3)* *DVD* This was just “okay”. The gore was good (despite consisting almost entirely of eye gouges) but was just too seldom. It should have been a bloodbath. Layer in between the too infrequent violence was just some boring ass movie with exceptionally bad acting and a guy named “Dick”. They really liked to say that name. A lot. I think they were purposefully making it into a joke. And some cringe racially charged dialogue. It’s more interesting to me because it’s the third movie to bear the subtitle “Demons 3”. Much like the Ogre this one has nothing to do with the Demons franchise. Someone slapped the title on it to move more numbers, unbeknownst to Umberto Lenzi. The ties to Demons are the only reason I wanted to see it.

Anyone else really enjoy the movie Night Train to Terror?
It used to pop up all the time in those budget sets. I have a feeling someone finally claimed a copyright on it or noticed it wasn’t public domain because it disappeared from newer budget sets and some reissues of old ones.
Anyway, I finally dug out one of my old budget sets that has it and will give it a watch soon.
The only Charles Band clip show movie I enjoy more is The Best of Sex and Violence. It’s 76 minutes of John Carradine showing trailers from the 1970s/80s and goofing on them.
Filmgore and Zombiethon are a lot of fun too. Charlie is still making clip show movies to this day, but he has gotten really cheap, even for him. These days a lot of them don’t even have wraparound stories and the only new footage is just text with music introducing the clips.
