Willy’s Wonderland* *DVD* This lived up to the hype. Nicholas Cage was pretty awesome as the silent antagonist and the way he dispatched the animatronics was hilarious. And that’s the thing about this movie. It was hilarious. I was expecting it to be a little scarier and creepier like the game it’s loosely based off of (Five Nights at Freddie’s) but that wasn’t the case at all. I wasn’t disappointed by that though. I got exactly what I expected. More even. It was a really enjoyable movie.

I watched the first half of Crystal Lake Memories today (up to and including part IV).
I really like how in depth it gets with ALL the movies. I’m used to those shit WWE documentaries that focus on the beginning and the end and skip over the middle (“Scott Hall went to WCW and stuff happened”) and how many of the cast members they were able to assemble. It’s to bad Kevin Bacon and Crispin Glover didn’t participate, but I’m confused as to why others who are still alive like the director of 2 and 3 didn’t take part?
I’m also glad to see that a lot of the girls got hotter with age.

A year or two ago the makers put up the super-rare bonus disc for sale by itself so I picked that up, but I still need to get the main doc.

I want to print bunch of horror/sci-fi movie posters as decor into my living room. Which do you think are the coolest, strangest, sexiest and funniest? More than one recommendations are welcome, I'll try to see some of the films too and write about 'em.

Just based on posters, nothing to do with the films themselves: ROBOT MONSTER KILLER KLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE HOUSE (1985) WITCHERY (aka LA CASA 4) LA BIMBA DI SATANA THE VAMPIRE LOVERS

Hellbound: Hellraiser II *dvd* It’s really too bad Hellraisers 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 had to happen because they lead to the popular belief that all the Hellraiser sequels were garbage. Which they aren’t. This is actually a really awesome movie worthy of being the sequel to the first one. I think it’s probably gorier as a whole than the first one (which is probably what turned a lot of viewers off) and explores the backstory of everyone involved in the first movie very well. And the attic corpses scene is more awesomer than almost anything in the first movie. It’s just not as cool a movie as the first one. And yes, I omitted 3 in the first sentence on purpose. I kinda liked 3.

Famine* *DVD* You know when you watch one of those movies and the cast is so annoying that you want them to die and take great pleasure when they finally do? Well being that Unearthed Films tends to release movies of the more extreme nature it only makes sense that they’d release a movie with even more annoying characters that die in even more extreme manners. Everyone in this movie was the 1980’s highschool horror cliche but dialed to “11”. So it was really tough to get through but more satisfying when they went out in the grisliest of ways.

164. Lifeforce* *Tubi* Mathilda May “Space Girl” “Mathilda May Space Girl” Mathilda May “Space Girl” Mathilda May “Space Girl”That’s the big takeaway from this movie for the male audience. Beyond that thought it’s actually a really cool sci-fi/horror movie. It’s too bad there wasn’t more vampire action (or Mathilda May “Space Girl”) but the underlying story of a potentially catastrophic planet-wide disaster was enough to keep me interested for this films (rather long) two-hour run time. I like “beginning of the end” movies and I wouldn’t have minded a follow-up to this.

At some point in my existence, LIFEFORCE was my favorite movie. Mathilda May helped, but she wasn't the only reason. The film just rules!

169. The Manson Family* *DVD* Unlike a lot of people I really have zero interest in Charles Manson and his actions. There’s like a million other things I’d rather spend my time on. I only really watched this because I like everything else I’ve seen from Jim VanBebber and I heard this was really violent and f***ed up. It was pretty schizophrenically edited it and that kept my interest. But too much of it was just building to the violence and getting to know the members of the family. And I’m doing so I really got an understanding of why people hated hippies so much. I never really cared for them before and I don’t know if I’d go as far to say I “hate” them now but watching their shenanigans for ninty-five minutes was more than enough for me for a while. It did get better around halfway in once things got darker. VanBebber has done some great work and it’s really too bad he hasn’t been able to do more.

Anyone got any ideas on the cheapest way to get the whole Hellraiser series?
From what I can tell you can get the double feature of the first two, a 6 film set that collects 3-8, but then you have to get Revelations and Judgment Night Separately.
If you’re lazy and just want to get it off Amazon then you can get all those for about $50. The bulk of that would be on Revelations and Judgment Night, which are supposed to be pretty crap.
As for me I won an auction a while back for that 3-8 set that also includes The Prophecy franchise. The 3-8 set can be purchased with or without The Prophecy franchise, but with of course cost more unless you win an auction or something like me. I then ordered the double feature of the first two off Amazon since eBay didn’t have any cheaper used copies. I still haven’t gotten Revelations or Judgement Night. I’m not dying to see them so may hold off until I can get them used for cheap or they’re released in some cheaper way.

What I want to know is why I can't find a DVD copy of Hellraiser 3 on its own. Copy I have is a bootleg.

Some used copies for about $8 or so. You’d be better off just getting the 6 movie set for $10. I’m pretty sure it’s the same version of the film either way.

My review of The Body Beneath (1970)
Plot: A family of vampires moves into Carfax Abbey to seek new blood in continuing their lineage.
Oh, what to say about Andy Milligan? I find his rise to cult hero status completely unsurprising. He was an out and proud gay auteur at a time when it was taboo. He harbored a grocery list of eccentricities and a Z-grade filmography that was such an antithesis to what we consider good filmmaking that it almost feels like counterculture. He was abusive and argumentative toward several in the film industry. He later died of AIDS-related complications and was buried in an unmarked grave, with little money or friends. With a rap sheet like that, it’s no wonder his legacy continues to persist. It’s just unfortunate many of his films seem borderline unwatchable as if they were literally churned out by a meat grinder. The idea of Andy Milligan the artist is often better than the reality of Andy Milligan the artist, I think. At least with The Body Beneath, there’s proof the real artist had some merit.
The Body Beneath isn’t all that thrilling of a movie and, by Milligan standards, it’s fairly conservative. For a film that talks a lot about blood, there isn’t a whole lot of it onscreen. But if it turns down the Herschel Gordon Lewis act just a tad, it’s in exchange for a piece of gristle that feels less like someone’s coked-up home movies. The picture quality is grainy as ever, and I don’t think we would want it any other way, but it’s a smoother product overall. I’m not sure if this is Milligan’s attempt at a “professional” film or he stumbled upon it by accident; perhaps it’s both. Things are especially improved by having it actually shot in England, which gives the movie more authenticity than if it were in Milligan’s usual New York playground.
At a baseline, and I say this as a compliment, there’s a real sense of madness to Milligan’s movies not found in other schlock of the era. The manic energy really gives his work a sense of danger. His cast and crew look like they could all be part of a demonic sex cult. Plenty of grindhouse films loved marketing themselves as agents of sadism, the type of features too grimy or lawless for the faint of heart. Milligan movies actually back up that talk, for better or worse. Even if The Body Beneath doesn’t feature as much shrillness compared to his other work, it still feels like the work of people slightly unhinged.
Gavin Reed is the star of the show here as Reverend Ford, who manages to pepper the character with a tinge of psychosis and flamboyance (Milligan always slipped in a bit of queerness to his male characters, I’ve noticed). I adore Ford’s blue-skinned vampire brides, who seem like extras in a high school play that just wandered onto the set. Only in the ‘70s could you get something like them. Also, only in a Milligan film could you get Berwick Kaler, this time as ill-fated hunchback Spool. It’s a cliche role, but there’s a surprising amount of pathos thrown into it. Milligan even taps into a bit of psychedelia in the film’s climax, where a meeting of vampires is transformed into a LSD fever dream. It’s a bit too much on the nose though, as you can hardly tell what the hell is going on.
Of course, I wouldn’t want you to think The Body Beneath is some great, must-see movie. Sometimes the only thing Milligan knows how to do is put the camera on and let his actors talk, talk, and talk. The plot is fairly interesting—a family of vampires roaming modern day London for new blood —but it hilariously unravels at the end when Ford decides, “Screw it all, let’s move to the States.” But this is really no worse than other early '70s drive-in schlock and for a movie that’s relatively bloodless, it’s clearly got a pulse somewhere.

I fairly recently watched Milligan's GURU THE MAD MONK and BLOOD. They both feel sorta like low budget soap opera episodes more than horror movies, even if there is violence and monsters in them. I preferred BLOOD, but that's largely because I found the lead vampire woman attractive.

Too lazy to link it, but I love the trailer for The Body Beneath with the voiceover guy whispering like it's a sexy perfume ad.
Blood was their daily bread and they stopped at nothing to obtain it.

For a bad movie night a bunch of guys and I watched GURU THE MAD MONK and it destroyed someone so bad that they just got up, went to their car and left. lol. And since that day various people are obsessed with "quoting" it. And I use that loosely since I think they were half asleep during it.
