That's right. The Tubi Original, Asylum produced SHARK SIDE OF THE MOON. It...is really bad and I don't even recommend it as a joke. Okay...yep. *Dances off stage without music*

Watched Tobe Hooper's Night Terror, have no idea what it tried to be. What a mess, what a bad movie and not in a "so bad, it's good" way. There's too much going on, while having no action, no horror, no suspense. It has some of the worst cuts ever and wtf is that ending scene? At least it's off my list now.

I ordered this from a non-local library and when it arrived I was surprised to see how large it was, thinking this guy must see himself as Stephen King or something. Not too far off the mark, as the novel certainly seemed to be inspired, at least in part, by the Constant Reader's Maine favorite. It in particular. But there is no need to be hesitant due to its length, as every chapter is a horrific joy to behold. And the author has a sure hand in delivering gruesome paragraphs to fill your head with gross imagery. I nearly lost interest early as the teen boy character got himself a bully. It seems like every high schooler in fiction MUST have a bully. Which is almost always riddled with clichés. But he turned out to be integral to the plot and the scenes of bullying were kept to a minimum. Dialog, characters, the pace; it was never anything less than dynamite. And as usual, the novel would be 50 pages long if people only had an honest conversation.

The version I saw was cut short 15-20 minutes. Of course that's significant, but a bit of violence and sex wouldn't have saved it from being awful. It's ridiculous how devoid of eroticism a movie about de Sade is. Although it's hardly about de Sade. It's Robert Englund hamming it up in Egypt because he wants that one girl and her archeologist father's artifacts for reasons never explained.

I watched THE MANGLER a handful of years ago as part of an October horror-thon (the theme I went with was Stephen King adaptations). I've since forgotten everything about that movie. So it's due for a rewatch. EDIT: Also, I was finally able to get my car sorted, so I was finally able to hit up Severin's DVD clearance sale. Only thing that really struck my fancy, though, was THE DEVIL'S RAIN.

Mortuary is the one with the single-mom and her children moving into a mortuary, isn't it? I either have fond memories of it or there's a second movie with a similar premise I'm confusing Mortuary with. Though there's a bunch of movies called Mortuary anyway.

I know of at least 2 films with the title Mortuary. The Hooper one IIRC has Denise Crosby in it. Found early for 25 bucks the newer Well Go USA Blu Ray set of all 5 Phantasm films. I love this damn series. Ever since I saw the first one on the last part of a triple bill at a drive in in the early 80s. This Remastered Blu looks great. Now I own the first film on Betamax,dvd(3 different releases) and 2 blu rays. Debating on getting a laserdisc of it and a VHS to complete the set. Looked and couldnt find any proof a CED of Phantasm exists.

That was one of the more swift reads I have done, gobbling it up in less than 24 hours. Most apt description would be one hell of a gory and violent crime novel. Just switch off the ole grey matter and let the author lead you down an icky, appalling rabbit hole. Not exactly a sophisticated thinking mans novel and that is often more than fine with me. It is my first Johnstone novel, and he reminded me by a large margin of Richard Laymon with how graphic, not to mention juvenile things get. The men would practically drool around every tightly clad woman they encountered. I loved how utterly un-pc the whole experience was. The kills were most delightful where the victim deserved the revenge dished out on them, which the author should have stuck with rather than kill so many innocent bystanders. But I realize sins visited upon sinners offspring does echo reality. I could have done without the rape victims in their early teens, but anything for shock value, I suppose. Definitively not for everyone, but if gratuitous sex and violence does not sour the palate, read it.

Here's the LaserDisc Database website entry for it: www.lddb.com/ced/01338/00806/Phantasmand it's listed in the CED Magic U.S Releases database: www.cedmagic.com/title-database/ced-titles.html

But watching it I remembered nothing. Good film. Tom Skerrit was great so was The Shat. Borgnine was good too. Loved the look of the black eye sockets and the melting effects.

I saw THE DEVIL'S RAIN a couple years ago. The folks that run an annual horror marathon at a local drive-in had to cancel it because of Covid, so they wound up doing some free livestreams instead. I watched a few of those, and one of the movies was THE DEVIL'S RAIN. Though I think they just provided links to low-quality transfers on Youtube. I still thought the movie was interesting. Looking forward to watching the flick with bonus features.

Planning on seeing all of them. I was sure we rented The Devil's Rain one drunken weekend in my early 20s. Fun film that is a bit slow. But worth the time. Not like the pile of crap I got on right now. Amityville Toybox. Nothing really happens until 20 minutes to the end.

Three days, three views. 1. Demons (Dämonen 2), 2. Demons 2 (Dämonen), 3. Deadgirl. Varying degrees of messed up, with both of Bava's movies worth a rewatch, while Deadgirl ended up being a frustrating experience.
So Demons is called Dämonen 2 in Germany and Demons 2 is called Dämonen. Makes absolutely no sense, but somehow fits the craziness. Never saw'em before and the 80s have once again proven that it's not nostalgia why many people love the trashy horror stuff from back in the days. The movies are just that good. Demons has some spectacularly good photography, both movies have some well milked suspense. The movie within the movie must be a pretty early example of meta horror and while it's not playing a big part, it still added to the feeling. The special effects and gore were great, although I thought Demons was a bit too gory for it's tone. Demons 2 was tamer in comparison, but the never-ending demon baby scene almost gave me a seizure AND a heart attack. Those lights, those screeching screams of the baby - royally messed up. Also: Demons has some surprisingly tight dialogue direction. Much, much better than one would expect from any horror movie. Music wise, I didn't care much about Demons, but Demons 2 has that really eerie tune I couldn't find on YouTube. Made for great athmosphere. I still have much to learn about Italian horror and am very happy about that.
Deadgirl, the first half works as a typical story about bored, frustrated and outcasted teenagers getting an opportunity to exercise power outside of any social norm. A tale reminiscent of Lord of the Flies. But the second half feels like MTV crashed the production and demanded more mindless sleaze and dumb twists. It never had the chance to become a favorite of mine, but the direction it went to is almost all-time bad.

I still need to see DEMONS and DEMONS 2. Whenever I think to look for them on DVD, there's none reasonably priced. So I kinda forget about them for awhile. Then when I go to look again...none reasonably priced.
I have DEADGIRL and I watched it once, but I don't really remember it. I'll have to give it a rewatch one of these days.

How much are you looking to spend for Demons and Demons 2? If you just want decent DVD/Blu-ray versions rather than the big deluxe versions, MVD usually sells the Synapse versions for about $10 a piece whenever they do a Synapse sale. Grindhouse Video has about the same price when they do a Synapse sale too, but I like MVD better

I actually watched Demons 2 last weekend!
Definitely not as good as the first, but does still have the strong Argento-produced visual style. I was kinda mind-blown the soundtrack credits The Smiths.
