There are plenty of Christmas horror movies, but hardly any Hanukah horror movies. So here's a bare bones idea for one. People are getting murdered on the days leading up to Hanukah by a guy wearing an evil octopus mask. See, eight days of Hanukah, and an octopus has eight legs. He plans to kill eight people overall. Um, maybe the lead detective has to work with an old Rabbi to find the killer instead of the old "cop working with a priest" trope. Well, its certainly not Black Christmas tier, but its a start. Maybe they could call it "HANUK-AAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!"

AMC had a sweeping round of layoffs today and Shudder was impacted in it. GM of the site, Craig Engler was one of those released.
As was Sean Redlitz, media executive.

[twitter id=' '] Classic case of punishing the thing that’s working because you screwed up something else. This is very bad. Engler was a champion of bringing great works from around the world to Shudder. He had a love for,it and a great eye. Shudder isn’t why AMC is losing money. It’s their one entity that they should have left alone because it’s a net positive for them. But idiots run everything.

The Shudder news is a reminder that no one really knows what they're doing. However, I'd like to post and let anyone who might be interested know the Yorkiethon charity drive on Ariescope is going to have a live script reading of the original Final Destination (Flight 180) script at 6PM EST today. Could be fun. twitter.com/JeffreyaReddick/status/1601027853688008704(and I suck at embedding Tweets)

Only nominally a horror film, but The Menu was excellent, and definitely worth seeing in a theatre.
Solid black comedy satire about foodie culture and the classist element of that. Some genuinely shocking scenes, great performances all around (Ralph Fiennes could be a dark horse Oscar nominee), and surprisingly witty dialogue.

SCREAM BLACULA SCREAM (1973) is the sequel to the iconic blaxploitation horror film BLACULA.
A voodoo cult in Los Angeles mourns the death of their high priestess. Her son, Willis (Richard Lawson, 1982's POLTERGEIST) believes he should become high priest, as is his birthright. However, the cult has chosen the adopted Lisa (Pam Grier, FOXY BROWN) as their leader.
Enraged, Willis procures the bones of "Blacula" and, through a voodoo ritual, resurrects him (in the form of William Marshall, back from the first movie)! Willis wants Blacula's power so he can exact his revenge on Lisa and the rest of the voodoo practitioners. Blacula, though, wants Lisa to use her supernatural gifts to return him to his human form, as Prince Mamuwalde.
Until Blacula/Mamuwalde can convince Lisa of what he wants, his thirst for blood must be satiated, resulting in the deaths of several people in town. Lisa's police detective boyfriend Justin (Don Mitchell, THE RETURN OF IRONSIDE) has to convince his superiors that Lisa's voodoo isn't responsible for these deaths, leading him to investigate the possibility that a vampire is responsible (much to the disbelief of his bosses).
Can Mamuwalde be restored to humanity before either his vampiric curse destroys more lives or the police track him down?!
Much like it's predecessor, SCREAM BLACULA SCREAM owes much of its gravitas to the performance of William Marshall. Marshall had such a commanding, charismatic presence. The film comes to life whenever he's on camera (no pun intended). Unfortunately, many of the scenes without him lack urgency. There were moments when he wasn't around where I started checking my watch.
The film is perfectly fine. It's chock-full of the hairstyles, clothing, slang, and music one would expect from a blaxploitation flick. But I much prefer the first one.

Angelo Badalamenti died on December 11. He was 85 years old. A good age and yet.

CHRISTMAS BLOODY CHRISTMAS was a foul mouthed, nonsense factory and I couldn't have asked for more. It throws you a Robocop-style commercial to set-up the premise and goes full force from there. I can see where the main characters are incredibly divisive but they reminded me of many people I know but probably wouldn't hang out with outside of work.
It's a nutso pile of violence that I never have to watch again but didn't mind the experience. (That said, my colorblindness probably didn't do the film any favors)

I dunno. I felt like that movie freakin' cratered a third of the way in. But that might be the sleep deprivation talking.

As the pages went right to left, this felt like what Danielle Steel would write if she dabbled in gothic horror. Except here the heroine was fleeing from modern suburbia rather than a foreboding castle. There is not gore or dread to be found here; it is just a quiet simple story about the past haunting the present. Not for those craving excitement on every page, but I quite enjoyed it. It would be a great introduction to horror for those who typically do not read such things.

Anyone here ever see Witches of the Caribbean (2005)? I only became aware of it when learning it was literally the first first film/TV project SVU’s Kelli Giddish ever appeared in. As far as I can tell it’s a typical David DeCoteau low budget cash-in attempt. It’s kind of weird for Giddish to be background eye candy given her SVU character, but hardly unexpected. Everyone has to start somewhere. Anyway, the trailer is on YouTube. I’m not sure if Giddish even appears in the trailer, but if she does it’s only as one of the less featured blondes: It reminds me of how Giddish’s SVU co-star, Mariska Hargitay started her career. Although Hargitay’s parts were more substantial and she wasn’t always just eye candy. Like in Jocks though the poster leads you to believe she plays a sexy cheerleader type she’s more an intelligent, but nagging girlfriend type. I guess I’ll end this post with another question. Anyone know if this is really Hargitay on the poster for Jocks? I always figured she used a body double since it looks pretty photoshopped:

I dunno. I felt like that movie freakin' cratered a third of the way in. But that might be the sleep deprivation talking. I think the corresponding murder/sex scene was a real drag from all the slow motion but once they got to the 'endless pursuit' angle of it, I was basically in for the ride. The third act fully transforms into the "Run, Scream, Survive" trope on repeat but it hit that level of "Keep telling a joke till it gets funny again" with me by the time the killer robot is somehow sparking electricity doused in water and still moving forward. Really pounded home the "This is a military grade death drone that for no good reason (capitalism) was transformed into a Holiday Santa doll and is killing people because they apparently didn't take out the murder chip" nonsense of it all.

I hear you. Once they start getting down - *bomb whistle*
Personally never hit that point though. We were there for the silly and primed to giggle, dead-tired and naturally doped up. Our lack of sleep-addled brains found Prey the height of hilarity and we were *up* for the first half. Maybe we peaked?
{Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW} Because talking after the show a lot of us went from wanting this girl to live to drumming our fingers waiting for this bitch to die. I think the most amped we got was when she loses half her hand. Not like, you know, baying for her blood but pumped they were finally going to wrap this up. Because this robot man. This ****ing robot. There's not one set-piece it doesn't know.
I'm not sure if I'd have been pissed or have a grudging respect if while she's splayed on the street relieved at the end that thing reactivates AGAIN and splits her head down the center. Fin. I normally hate that shtick but might have got off on the sheer audacity.
Didn't hate it but oh boy. I'm glad you got more out of it first watch than I did.

I probably would’ve enjoyed Satan’s Slaves Communion more if I’d known it was a sequel and watched that first. Still, good movie.

I've finally started reading Fear Street books ever since the Netflix movies piqued my curiosity.
Damn, I wish I knew this series existed when I was younger. They've got everything I would've wanted in a book. They're also really quick reads and, of course, the cover art is fantastic.

Based solely on what I've watched this year (which is a very limited amount in all honesty), I'd like to avoid rankings and put what I found to be the best horror film Per Service Exclusivity:
Tubi -- TEARDROP directed by Stephen R. Monroe
HBO MAX -- [Did Not Subscribe]
Apple + -- [Did Not Subscribe]
Disney Plus -- HOCUS POCUS 2 directed by Anne Fletcher
Hulu -- PREY directed by Dan Tractenberg
Netflix -- TEXAS CHAINSAW directed by David Blue Garcia
Amazon Prime -- MY BEST FRIEND'S EXORCISM directed by Damon Harris
Paramount Plus -- ORPHAN: FIRST KILL directed by William Brent Bell
Shudder-- DEADSTREAM directed by Joseph & Vanessa Winter
Peacock -- NOPE directed by Jordan Peele
Theaters -- X directed by Ti West
Feel free to share your own if it doesn't seem like too silly an idea

They've got everything I would've wanted in a book. They're also really quick reads and, of course, the cover art is fantastic. Never read them in the day, cause hell I had to be mid 20s when they started. But back in 2008 I had a job where I had 8 hours downtime at a job where my shift was 11 hours long 4 days a week. Found a Fear Street collection was three connected stories about an amusement park. And they were not bad. Would read more if I found them cheap. But now locally goosebumps and fear street old books are 5 bucks or more each. 42nd Street Pete did a black friday sale. And I got a pile of dvds cheap from him. Tonight watched Babysitter Massacre from that stack. Modern slasher, low budget but not bad. Decent FX work, all of it practical. ANd you can tell the director is a huge fan of b-level slashers like Slumber Party Massacre and Sorority House Massacre. Nothing amazing but worth seeing if you like slashers.

Okay I got it this time. A Festivus Horror movie! Angry disgruntled father goes around murdering people with a big aluminum pole. The movie ends with an epic Feats of Strength battle between the killer and the main protagonist.
