So in a battle between two of the more vocal god thankers of the cage, who will Jesus love more?

"Who can kick arse for the Lord the hardest?" sounds like it should be the tag line for the PPV.

The way I see it is that Sonnen knows Jones would destroy him so if the fight took place no one matter how bad he looked He could always say I only had 8 days and press for a rematch meaning another big pay day for him. That and I guess saying no was Jones way of saying f*** you to Sonnen. Also today Anthony Johnson made his debut at LHW (he was the winner with a second round TKO) and this time shock horror he made weight.

It's odd that the UFC apparently has such a low value on itself to think that name alone wouldn't draw in enough to cover costs. No big name like Jones? Then no one cares about the UFC in their eyes. They all but admit that by cancelling the show a week away from it.
I wouldn't mind seeing the numbers behind the cancellation. Do they get a refund for cancelling on the location? Or is that money sunk? Did they figure paying the other fighters would cost too much? Did Jones have it in his contract that he gets a PPV cut no matter what (Kind of like how actors can get Pay-or-Play deals for movies)? How much does it cost to set up the ring, the lights, license the music?
I wouldn't mind knowing the reason why the UFC gave up on the UFC. How much cost is too much?
That's just me, though.

I think the UFC also made a mistake creating three new divisions that no one gives a **** about. Overkill. I don't think that's the problem (although I really don't care for the 125 lb. division at this point). I think the problem is the Fox deal. I love the increase in free fights, however it has seriously dilluted the PPV cards and this is the first time it has seemingly bit the UFC in the backside. I'm enjoying seeing more free fights myself. But I agree that running so many cards has spread everything thin. You get some exciting fights in the smaller divisions, I agree. But I don't think there's the interest in having three of them. I just wish UFC had just added one division.

Except they seem to be running a lot fewer cards. Wasn't there a few month stretch where no pay per views were offered?
And while I may not give a crap about the new sprite weight divisions, they should technically have a lot more to put ppvs together with.

Has this been discussed? From Chael Sonnen's pizza restaurant (named after the Mean Street Posse, no less...)

Part of me recently was starting to feel that the UFC name isn't as popular as some may think, rather that MMA is sort of popular and UFC happens to have almost all of the major stars. I mean people like Kimbo Slice and Ronda Rousey have been big outside of the UFC, but the promotions they were apart of otherwise really had nothing else going for them. So if UFC happened to lose Jones, GSP, and Silva, what would happen?

I love how people are using the word "scrub" among other things to describe Chael Sonnen. I get it, the guy lost his last title defense and he really shouldn't be in line for another, but you could say the same for Brock Lesnar? Only difference there is that Lesnar won his previous match-up and Chael controversially lost. UFC isn't about what's fair a lot of the time so I don't see how this is really an issue. It's business and business as usual for them. Chael Sonnen took Silva further than anyone has thus far and technically should be champ via illegal knee. Because he hasn't really made light of it, nobody's really talked about it. Surprising from somebody with such a big mouth, something people also don't understand is that his mouth is used to sell fights. He didn't only take Silva to his limits, he brought UFC back to a level it hasn't seen since guess who left not so long ago. This right now is probably the biggest marketable replacement for the main event. They need something that is going to move PPVs. You really think Sonnen was the only choice? He may have been the best option to draw an audience but I'm sure Jones said no to having any replacements period which is a real shame. It's incredibly selfish and takes away from UFC's audience and also it's competitors who are now out of a paycheck for absolutely no good reason. This guy was moaning about fighting Machida because it wouldn't bring any more buys, well here's your main event caliber match-up, have at it. Geez. It wasn't an illegal knee, don't buy into that hype. It hit him in the chest, Chael just had to have an easy excuse for throwing a dumbass backfist. Flat out, dude uses his mouth to sell fights, then absolutely FAILS to back up his mouth. He's 50% in his past four fights, and only dominantly one ONE of those. He has no business in any title hunt right now. Jones was absolutely right to turn him down, Dana should have had a backup plan in place. But, that said, it's great to see that White's smear campaign is already working. It took Sonnen stumbling from the back fist for Silva to get an advantage as Sonnen had dominated the fight up until that point. Sonnen is a points fighter and shouldn't be trying spinning back fists though. Jones should also have taken the fight as he's representing the company as a champion. He was fight ready.

For Dan Henderson. Not for Chael Sonnen. Him taking the fight would have basically been him putting up everything he earned against a guy who's done.....what, exactly? Lost two title matches, got a disputable win over Bisping, and one solid win over Brian Stann(who?)? How is that a title fight worthy resume? Add that to the fact that Jones would have 8 days(which, at that point, is mostly fight hype interviews) to "prepare" for Sonnen's style, which is radically different to Hendo's, and there is absolutely no upside to him taking the match.

Chael is the greatest pro wrestler in the history of MMA.
I love how he works the MMA marks AND most of the pro wrestling marks.

So in the old UFC would Jones forfeit the tournament if the wrong guy advanced to his round 2 fight?

So in the old UFC would Jones forfeit the tournament if the wrong guy advanced to his round 2 fight? Different circumstances. In a one night tourney you're(hopefully) prepared to go all night against whoever. Jones was training for a specific fight, and had nothing to gain and everything to lose by taking on a guy he wasn't prepared for. Good lord, Dana really the best spin guy going today. He's already turned his bad preparation into Jones' fault.
