Backlund being announced as champion after the match is my second favorite "the heel has won the title!" announcement after Sgt. Slaughter winning the title.
Just the disgust, and the announcers holding on to the last desperate hope that it's not true, until The Fink makes the "NEEEWWWW!" announcement and the announcers summarily lose their shit. Especially Piper when Slaughter won. Though none of the announcers really lose it for Backlund, it IS great to see Backlund waiting to take the belt until the final announcement, his eyes all bugged out, and then seeing him go crazy with celebration.
I really wish Mr. Bob Backlund had gotten a little bit of a longer reign. He got great "Really? THIS guy?! BOOOO!" heat.

This is one of my top 5 favorite PPVs, and probably the last traditional SurSer card that had elimination matches that made sense.
(Old school SurSer elimination matches are my favorite matches of all time.)

My one complaint about the title match is that Bulldog is KO'd for like 15 minutes, I especially think it's funny to see Helen and Stu having to step over the lifeless body of their son-in-law to ponder throwing in the towel for Bret.

I remember legitmly shocked when I turned on WWF weekand programming and found out Backland was the new champion. As far as past heel champions, I thought Yokozona could and probably would win the title from Bret and Hogan respectively, Flair winning the title twice could happen, Undertaker winning from Hogan, those are all possible outcomes I thought could happen.
But going into Survivor Series, I thought no way Bret would lose, eventhough you had that towel throwing stipulation, but I thought Bret would find away, maybe like the way Flair and Sting won at Halloween Havoc 1989.

I much prefered the 4 on 4 match. One main event guy, one midcarder and a tag team.
Here's how I'd book the show:
Main Event: Bret Hart vs. Bob Backlund Alundra Blaze vs. Bull Nakano
Razor Ramon, 123 Kid, Mabel and Mo vs. Jeff Jarrett, Roadie, Diesel and HBK
Undertaker, Adam Bomb, Fatu and Sionne vs. King Kong Bundy, IRS, Bam Bam Bigelow and Tatanka
Lex Luger, British Bulldog, Bily Gunn and Bart Gunn vs. Yokozuna, Crush, Owen Hart and Jim Niedhart
Doink, Donk, Dink and Doinkette vs. Jerry Lawler, Biggie, Teenie and Queenie

The Lex/Yoko feud was long over by this point.

Lex Luger, Adam Bomb, Mabel, Duke "The Dumpster" Droese and Bob "Spark Plug" Holly vs. Capt. Tatanka, Bam Bam Bigelow, King Kong Bundy, Irwin R. Shyster and Nikolai Volkoff Capt. The Survivor Series' around between 1992-1996 and the lack of usual 8 man matches showed a lack of talent on the show. There just wasn't enough major stars or fueds it seems plus the major fueds like Yokozuna v. Undertaker or Backlund v. Bret didn't need a 8-10 man tag team match. Still, I missed those tag matches.
1994 was strange. Diesel sure got a big push but the ending was sad as no one from the Teamsters was even pinned. The real ending and all the pins by Diesel were needed I'm sure to put over Diesel for the title run.
The Doinks match showed another lack of availabe or pushable talent. As silly as the fued was it was probably a better choice of match than a match featuring silly gimmicks like Dumpster, Kwang, Spark Plugg or Well Dunn.
I think the Million Dollar Team should have beenn IRS and Nikolai in Bodies' place, as the previous poster added. Bodies' were feuding with Gunns though. Nikolai only came once in a while and IRS off the team was needed for the casket match.
I think Bull Nakano should've have faced and beat Alundra Blayze but that match was on a show in Japan.
I always liked Royal Rumbles and Survivor Series' during the first few years because they showcased all the talent. Survivor Series 88 was stretched so thin they have replacements for replacements but by the early to mid 1990s the gimmicks could make a crappy Royal Rumble 1995 but not a Survivor Series 1994.

I like that this is the only PPV to feature Monsoon and McMahon as an announce team no color commentator and this is also Monsoon's last PPV call, one thing I didn't like was only 3 Survivor matches felt there could've been atleast one more.

Why was the casket match on last? Bret Hart vs Backlandhould have headlined. Other than that great PPV.

Thought Bret looked a bit stupid when he goes for a pin on Backlund in this match Strangely enough he doesnt mention it in his book so I guess the boys didnt love it backstage This PPV with Diesels turn to me seems to signal the start of the reign of the Clique which by next year would be running the WWF.

Why was the casket match on last? Bret Hart vs Backlandhould have headlined. Other than that great PPV. They wanted to leave the fans and the viewers at home happy. A couple of other PPVs from this time period did similar switching of main event matches down lower in the card. The King of the Ring from the same year featured Lawler and Piper on last(Piper picked up the W) rather than Owen Hart winning the tournament or the Bret vs. Diesel WHC match that ended with Niedhart's interference. I remember really enjoying this show as a kid. Even the Doink and Lawler with the midgets match, but I was always a mark for heel Lawler in the WWF.
