Oh thank god! And at least (HOPEFULLY), they'll change it back to "The Arena". Bright side: No more "Asylum Arena". ;D Or even better, no more Asylum Arena security.

Another update...
FUTURE OF THE ECW ARENA by Mike Johnson @ 5:27 PM on 12/6/2011
For some time today, it appeared that the fabled former ECW Arena had hosted its last pro wrestling event as the building's general manager Roger Artigiani contacted promoters who had equipment housed in the facility and told them they had 48 hours to remove their items from the property.
Several weeks ago The Philadelphia Daily News featured an article about issues between Artigiani, and another potential leaseholder, Joanna Pang, that wanted to expand and make the venue a concert hall while potentially eliminating pro wrestling events. As it turns out, a deal was made, with Artigiani agreeing to sell off his side of the business to Pang.
Initially, it appeared that was going to be it for wrestling events in the venue, but a scheduled January double header featuring CZW and EVOLVE will still go on as scheduled. CZW owner DJ Hyde will be meeting with Pang going forward regarding use of the venue, although wrestling schools operated by CHIKARA and CZW will be moving from the property. CZW still expects to run the venue as they have run more shows there than any other company, but the future of additional groups running the legendary venue is still up in the air.
The venue debuted as a wrestling arena for ECW when founder Tod Gordon ran there in 1993. It quickly became one of the more famous wrestling venues in the world.
We will have more information as it comes in.

Well, that f***s over CZW. That was pretty much their established venue. Looks like it's DEEJ's mum's backyard from now on. Although CZW has spent over a decade running shows primarily in the former ECW arena, it spent much of 2010 touring across the United States and 2011 touring across the world (Germany, England, Japan)*. Although I think CZW's best bet is to have a 'home base,' the promotion is not as dependent on it as it once was. *Although the audiences at the non-Philly shows were much more energetic and passionate than their Philadelphia counterparts, the attendance count seemed disappointing relative to what CZW normally draws in Philly. On the flip side, I know that their shows in Germany attracted audiences which were both large and energetic.

So Alahambra Arena is going to become like IWA:MS?
It fakes it's own death to get people to care.
Shame for such a historic place.

LOL Unlike IWA-MS, THE ARENA doesn't need to fake its death to get people to care. THE ARENA consistently yields decent draws. Some are outstandingly large, as was likely the case when CZW did Cage of Death this past weekend.

If CZW gets to keep running there but CHIKARA doesn't, somebody's gonna die.

UPDATE ON THE FORMER ECW ARENA, DETAILS ON WHAT MAY BE THE FINAL WRESTLING SHOWS IN THE LEGENDARY VENUE by Mike Johnson @ 4:07 PM on 12/11/2011 In speaking with Roger Artigiani, who will be departing as the leaseholder of the former ECW Arena today, he will be remaining with the building to oversee the 1/14/12 CZW and EVOLVE double header at the building as well as a 1/22/12 boxing event. At that point, the new leaseholder Joanna Pang will take over the management of the facility. As I previously noted, CZW's DJ Hyde is scheduled to meet with Pang regarding the promotion running the facility beyond that, but nothing is set in stone. As of right now, the last wrestling events officially set for the venue are the EVOLVE/CZW events. There are plans to remodel the facility and once that is done, there's no way of knowing what rules will be put into place for running it, what the rent will be, etc. In all likelyhood, The Arena as fans have known it and the one that existed for over the last 15 years will no longer exist. We've had several readers ask about the Hardcore Hall of Fame banners that hang over the Arena, celebrating the careers of those who worked there. Artigiani noted that those will be removed from the building but remain in his possession going forward. Artigiani noted that he respects the history of the building and what it has meant to so many people who worked and attended events there, so he intends to insure that the banners and any other artifacts from the venue under his regime are maintained and not discarded. Tickets for the EVOLVE event are already on sale at www.dgusa.tv. Scheduled for the event thus far are DGUSA Champion Johnny Gargano, Chuck Taylor, Ricochet, Sami Callihan, Bobby Fish, Uhaa Nation and more. CZW's event is also on sale at www.CZWrestling.com. No matches have been officially set for that event, although Matt Tremont did challenge Drew Gulak to face him. There are early plans for a bus trip from the New York City area for what looks to be the final events in the facility. For details, email wrestlingbustrips@gmail.com.

JUGGALO CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING DEBUT AT FORMER ECW ARENA CANCELED by Mike Johnson @ 3:38 PM on 12/12/2011
Juggalo Championship Wrestling issued an announcement via email to PWInsider.com that their 12/30 Internet PPV in Philadelphia, PA at the former ECW Arena was "canceled by the new owners of the building" and that the date would not be taking place.
The show was slated to feature a ton of former ECW stars and JCW regulars facing each other in a series of matches. The promotion announced that planned dated on 12/17 in Detroit, Michigan and 12/31 in MA would still go on as scheduled.
While the venue was blamed for the cancellation, there were some in the local wrestling scene that noted the Athletic Commission were not happy the last time JCW ran the market for using light tubes without permission and theorized that may have been an obstacle here for the company.
As it stands, the last scheduled shows in the former ECW Arena will be the 1/14 CZW and EVOLVE double header.

Wonder why Heyman doesn't just buy the place and make it his own personal museum?
Surely he's got the money. And he can rent it out to other companys for shows.
Easy.

Honestly, who cares if there is never another wrestling show ran at that dump. The memories and moments will never be forgotten whether that building is still running indy matches or is bulldozed.

Tear the f***er down. It was a bingo hall that held wrestling shows for small unknown untalented promotions. If fans can accept the demolition of historical venue like Yankee's Stadium than I' sure no one will care about this run down arena.
