So now people are of the opinion that not only was this match bad but that the Best in the World match was bad? Jeez, why did you guys even order this show then?

So now people are of the opinion that not only was this match bad but that the Best in the World match was bad? Jeez, why did you guys even order this show then? I didn't think the BITW match was bad, I thought it was excellent. Tonight was massive overkill. But to your point of why order it. I ordered it for Steen/Corino the rest was just added bonus in my head when I decided to order.

The BITW match was wrestled under the right circumstances, it was sort of fresh, and the rest of the card (Steen's moment aside) clearly allowed for it to shine. They just did too much awesome stuff before it this time round, and the show had already been going for three and a half hours by that point, and then they just did the same match, pretty much.

So now people are of the opinion that not only was this match bad but that the Best in the World match was bad? Jeez, why did you guys even order this show then? While I consider this the weakest of their three title matches (which includes the TV title match, for those who aren't aware) I don't think it was bad or anything. And truth be told, there were a lot of moments where somebody would hit what looked like a match-ending move, where I thought "Okay, that HAS to be it," and I had a "holy shit!" reaction when it wasn't. The fact that it felt like we were in the home stretch for a long time helped me believe that those moves would end the match, since I assumed it would end any time now. (If anybody wonders why I was still surprised at Eddie and Davey continuing to kick out when they'd done it a bunch of times before, that's why.) I think that if people had just watched this match on its own then the response would have been more positive. The people who watch it on demand and can take breaks without missing anything likely won't have the same complaints. (I will say, though, that IMHO you can only do the "I'm gonna chop the hell out of you," "Okay, now I'm gonna kick the hell out of you!" "Okay, now I'm gonna chop the hell out of you again!" "Okay, now I'm gonna kick the hell out of you again!" thing for so long before it starts to get silly and it would be best to move onto something else.) The positive and the negative of this show was that we got a lot for $15. Is it a better value than the equivalent shows from WWE and TNA, and arguably more entertaining overall? Absolutely. Is it reasonable to expect wrestling fans to watch for four hours straight? I would say not. Even three is stretching it.

I personally think 2-2.5 hours is about right for a long form wrestling show. This went over 4. At least with Mania, you're prepared to go 4.

WHERE CHRIS HERO STANDS WITH WWE AND ROH, RHETT TITUS INJURY UPDATE AND MORE RING OF HONOR NEWS by Mike Johnson @ 3:35 AM on 12/24/2011
Some Ring of Honor notes regarding Final Battle 2011: There were no injuries at the show. A few readers were concerned about the chair shots, but there were no concussions and no injuries beyond Jay Briscoe getting cut hardway during the Tag title match.
There were a lot of production issues with tonight's show, to the point that Jim Cornette hit the roof backstage. It was doubly frustrating since it was the first show Dan Bynum had directed and the company had everyone wearing headsets so Bynum could communicate with the crew shooting the show and working on production. Obviously, that's going to need to get worked out ASAP.
Chris Hero has not signed with ROH, but has an open door to work for the company. As I noted, he's still on WWE radar and if he signs with WWE, he came back for a few last appearances. If he ends up not signed by WWE, ROH would love to have him. Hero kept his appearance tonight quiet from everyone you could think of.
As I noted, Rhett Titus is suffering from a torn meniscus and at least one source has noted he's been told to have surgery. Titus' knee has been bothering him for some time and it's to the point where you can see it's really hobbling his work.
ROH will hold their tenth anniversary event on 3/4/12 at 5 PM at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. The fact that company it hitting its tenth birthday makes me feel really, really, really old. I believe The Briscoes and referee Paul Turner will have been the only talents to have been with the company for the entire run.
In a smart move, ROH was giving out free DVDs of matches to fans today as a way to promote their Ringside membership. I didn't get a DVD but if anyone knows what the matches were, I'm curious to see what was on the giveaway.
There are plans to bring in some outside talent for the 1/7/12 Baltimore, MD taping under the guise of an open door policy where anyone can come in and challenge the ROH champions. There are also talks ongoing about bringing in some NOAH talent, Japanese and American, for events in 2012.

Dont get me wrong, I usually love ROH, but this show was horribly long. We all got together to watch it at my place, a nice mix of wrestlers and friends that our just wrestling fans, by the end of the night only me, my wife, and ONE of our buds stuck around. It was too too too too long. Honestly even after how long Steen/Corino went, it was really the tag match that finally murdered the excitement for us (and i think the crowd).
Truthfully the opening match and the TV title match were the highlights of the show.

The worst part of the match is that Edwards learned the Dragon Sleeper from Severn in his efforts to beat Richards, and he apparently used it only once, and Richards had little trouble breaking it. What the f*** was the point, then?

I didn't think the match at BITW was bad nor did I think that this match was bad, I'm just saying that this match had some major things going against it (Some of them were the fault of Richards and Edwards, some were not). I personally really liked their match at BITW, granted I saw the match a few days ago.

the Fruity Pebbles chant has been explained. in the ROH feedback on Wrestling Observer from a guy at the show: I heard that it wasn't even until halfway through the show where said guy decided to say "F*** it!" and troll everybody. I also heard that it got to a point where a young kid yelled at everybody, saying something along the likes of "You know that isn't Cena, right?" Of course, the kid then got destroyed for saying that. This is why I don't go to ROH shows, people.

I watched the first half live, just caught up with the rest of it now.
The first half was really great, Steen's return to ROH was so awesomely chaotic. I'm consistently amazed how they seem to keep outdoing their Kevin Steen antics from PPV to PPV. Every time Generico and Steen get in the ring it's magical. I love the dark storytelling, the plunder around the ring, the seething hatred between Steen and all members of ROH, this is pro wrestling at its finest to me.
Loved the tag team wrestling following the intermission. I'm all in with Coleman and Alexander now, they put on a great show. I really enjoy the psychology at play in ROH tag team matches. They really end up being wars, they have a great tag team scene right now.
WGTT vs. the Briscoes was really cool to me. I don't think they went in expecting a "double turn" and I think on shows going forward WGTT will still be the faces and Briscoes will still be the heels(though I think ROH might be considering turns down the line). Both teams played to the audiences pretty well, I thought it was unique booking, that might have went against the grain but was logical in that you knew going in that WGTT were less concerned about defeating the Briscoes as they were giving them the ass kicking of their lives, then getting egg on their face when it turns out that the Briscoes live for that s*** and can seemingly take it all. As a fan I was 100% behind WGTT, this feud is working on me in that I really do want to see WGTT give Briscoes a life altering ass kicking, yet the Briscoes are too stubborn to ever allow that to happen. Really cool dynamic between the teams. Great match.
Davey vs. Edwards, man. I don't know. I'm mixed about it because I did get goosebumps through certain spots. I can see a lot of the criticism it's getting here as valid. It's definitely overkill, what they're doing, as far as storytelling goes. But at the same time I find myself sitting in astonishment at how they can just go on like that for an hour, I don't know how you can physically put on a match like that. Like Ric Flair doing one hour broadways in the 80s looks like childsplay after watching a match in terms of physicality(understanding that the storytelling is a completely different thing altogether). I am just in awe of the physical aspect, and there were some chilling moments in there too.
I don't think they took enough advantage of Edwards' sketchy behavior over the past few months, though they've been stringing this Roderick/Davey/Eddie stuff for quite a while now and I think it's ultimately for the better to have fast forwarded a little bit to get Steen in there and really shake things up.
The production stuff is getting really annoying and I really hope they can work some of that stuff out. There were times where the cameras just seemed to be in all the right places. Steen/Corino had some fantastic shots of Cornette giving Steen the finger and just losing his s*** altogether, cameras weren't cutting to fans or managers during crucial near falls as has happened on past PPVs and TV shows, the camera work is improving. I really hope they get replays working because there are times where you just need them. I go into every show hoping for the best production wise and it was a bad start with the sound/video glitches.
And the chairshots were silly. When Steen/Corino did it I wasn't enthused but if that were the only one it wouldn't have been so bad. Hopefully ROH deals out some fines or something because it's just unnecessary. I don't think less of any wrestler who puts a couple hands up and blocks it, and it doesn't deter the storytelling at all. Protect your head, pretend the chairshot killed you, that's not a hazard to my suspension of disbelief.
But all in all another great PPV from ROH. They're in a good place right now because there are so many ways you can go now. Steen's stuck his nose in Davey/Eddie's business, while Generico/Jacobs/Corino/Cornette have unresolved issues with him. Ciampa and Bennett are ready to take themselves to TV title contention at the very least. The tag titles are freshened up somewhat with the title change, Roderick is a wildcard now based on what's next for him. Can't wait for the next show.

was my first roh ppv.i watched the briscoes violence promo on the youtube and had to see the ppv.a few things stood out. 1.kevin steen=awesome.part hugh morris part brian pillman i see him taking the title from richards. 2richards/edwards is stale. edwards to me has a janetty quality to me and should not be featured in main events with those silly chops that look fake. 3.dem boys are flucking awesome 4.chris hero aint seen a gym in months 5.wwe would kill to have some of those tagteams.
