What does TNA see in this guy?
They've tried a thousand times and a thousand ways to make him a star, to make him credible, to make him a major player and he's just ... not.
He's not Mick Foley. He's not Mankind. He's not Cactus Jack. He's a bad, watered-down copy. And any attempt to make him anything else hasn't worked either.
Help me understand what they see in him, and why he's still around.

Believe it or not, there actually was a time when Abyss was pretty awesome and a believable monster. Hell, back in 2006, I honestly would have called him one of the better big men in the business. Much like so many other things in TNA, however, Abyss has been hurt badly by horrible booking. So, it's not that Abyss sucks necessarily, it's just that he needs booking rehab badly.

Yeah, Abyss is a good big man. He just gets a lot of bad gimmick overhauls.

So basically, the same problem Samoa Joe and to an extent AJ have had. Even though I think AJ has always been booked pretty well, yeah, Abyss pretty much has the same problem as Joe.

One of the more egregious examples of TNA's manic depressive booking.
Calling it yo-yo booking would be too nice.

Abyss is the perfect big man for TNA, as he works amazingly well with X-division guys(for a great example, look at ROH's Steel Cage Warfare. He has some pretty good interactions with Austin Aries, Jack Evans, and especially Matt Sydal(Evan Bourne)).

He used to be good but between bad booking, especially that constant obsession with turning him face when he should be a perenial monster heel, and the fact hes no longer that good in the ring as he used to due to being out of shape hes what we have today. So yea basically like Joe.

As a silent, intimidating, masked monster Abyss worked wonderful. When they started having him talk and trying to give him all these other gimmicks he got watered down and started stinking up the house.

Abyss is one of the most stale characters in TNA. TNA needs to change things up with him quickly.

The last interesting thing I remember him doing was attacking Christian in his house.

He actually had one of the better matches I've ever seen like, ever. In him and AJ Styles at Lockdown 2005. It's probably on my list of all time favs.

Remember when he was in love with Lauren, and was screaming her name out when bad things happen to her thanks to Dr Stevie Richards and Daffney? Or how he came to the aid of Taylor Wilde when Kong tried to destroy her after Taylor defeated her? You dont? Dont blame ya.,

Dear TNA - Abyss.
1) Don't let him speak. Give him a mouthpiece. Scott Steiner. He'll do.
2) Let him MURDER people. The only way he gets taken down is by (a bare minimum of) two wrestlers teaming up on him.
3) Make the Black Hole Slam a killer move again. Sell it as if he sends his opponents to the very depths of the bowels of hell when he hits the move.
4) Keep this up for at least a year.
Do this and you may just find the guy is no longer a punchline.

One of the more egregious examples of TNA's manic depressive booking. Calling it yo-yo booking would be too nice. Agreed. Abyss actually had his good moments earlier on in TNA's history, but I agree on the booking. The booking of Abyss jumped the shark so to speak after 2008.

Abyss is one of the best monsters in the business when booked right.
As others have said, he should just be destroying people. His character really doesn't need any depth to it, but they always feel the need to revamp him.
He should be booked like Mark Henry's recent run in WWE.
