Well, with a different show runner, he might be up for it.
Hell, he made G.I. Joe.

Well, with a different show runner, he might be up for it. Hell, he made G.I. Joe. I dont think it was to do with RTD, as the two have made 2 or 3 other shows together. It was to do with the fans and the attention; he just likes to act and do his stuff, he couldnt care less about all the functions and the conventions and the obsessed fans who want to geek it up around him.

Neil Gaiman is brilliant. His episode was the highlight of, for me, a poor season

He's made it sound very clear that it was involved in the production though; maybe not RTD, but he seems to have really fallen out with some people while making the show and he's bearing a big grudge from it. Possibly the time/budget limits, possibly the way he was asked to play it, possibly the internal BBC reaction to it, I don't know exactly. I can't remember him saying it was because of the fans before.

Thats one of the reasons I don't really care for him, the Role of the doctor is one of the most iconic in TV and should be respected as such. If you want to take on the role you have to accept that it is more than just a job and that a lot of people are emotionally invested in it. Whilst obviously I have a connection to Doctor Who, I would feel the same if actors 'disrespected' any iconic role they performed be it James Bond, Captain Kirk or whomever. Im not anti eccleston and I did enjoy his take on the Doctor, I just wish he showed it a bit more respect x

He acts in parts once, then doesnt go back. He doesnt do sequels, he's said as much, and he never goes to conventions or anything like that. While he may have had problems with the BBC and such, he clearly also has an opinion on his own career and how he wants to be seen as an actor. He isn't in the new GI Joe, and his role in Thor will likely end with death as well.

Lots of rumours that Matt Smith is planning to leave. The BBC are strongly denying, but they always do. 50th Anniversary seems to be to be a great time to regenerate and kick off a new era. In fairness, the raggamuffin tabloid (it was The Mirror) that ran the story also stated in the actual article that Smith had signed on through 2013. {Spoiler}All fits with my "50th Anniversary ends with a regen" speculation.

If they did a multiple Doctors story for the 50th, I really want Paul McGann to get a second run on TV

Eight, Nine, and Ten are the only ones who could really be passable unless they were going to attempt to handwave it like they did with Davison, but then that only really brings Davison back into the equation, which is kind of a jump.
But in all honesty, I've about had my share of nostalgia Who. They already crossed over all the non-Pond-related players of modern Who in Journey's End, and the only two from that I'd like to see again are Donna or Jack. I pop for the Daleks, but I don't want to see them for a while, ditto for the Cyberman, and increasingly for the Angels. I really can't think of any species from the old series I want to see back.
Yet I think the 50th Anniversary by fanwanky demand is going to wind up having everything in it anyway just because of the anniversary, and unlike the 1000th Raw, they actually have to have a pretense at a story, and I really hope they don't just use the "you're all captured and brought here for a reason" method that the Five Doctors used and that Journey's End essentially used.

There's no reason whatsoever not to show McGann. Unlike most of the other Doctors, we have no idea how he looked when he regenerated, and there's at least 700 years covered in the Earth Arc of the novels and the audio Orbis, and he has a ton of adventures beyond that, so a little aging can be expected. That said, even 16 odd years after the movie, he still looks fantastic.

With the things they can do with makeup and computer technology now, I'd think an actor's age would be less of an issue now, especially if they're willing to spend for the special effects for the 50th anniversary.

A 50th anniversary Doctor story should be narrated by Tom Baker

Mitchell and Webb were hilarious, totally out of place, but hilarious. {Spoiler} Loved seeing the Doctor taking some revenge for the Silurians by blowing up Walder Frey. Loved Nefertiti and the random hunter, and hope we see them again one day. Favourite thing about the episode was definitely Rory's dad though. He was excellent. A much better episode than last week, and definitely one of my favourite of this Doctor. Next weeks episode.......I cant stand the wild west, so not looking forward to that at all.
