I love this pic, did you make it? Nah, just spent about an hour doing Google image searches. I believe it's from the Hell in a Cell photoshoot.

Absolutely brilliant. I was giggling with anticipation inside when I knew we were getting to "Who killed the Kennedy's" and the OP did not disappoint.
Only thing that played out slightly different in my head: "laying traps for troubadors" could have been Punk sitting in the ring during the Rumble where he famously grabbed a mic during some dead time, and started ranting at the guy to come in next, for all of three seconds before blindsiding him with the mic to the head and throwing him out.
Still, that's but a rounding error in this vast ocean of awesomeness.

I'd say they are pretty aware of that. I mean he is on the cover of the game and has that DVD set coming out. Sure he's not promoted as an anti-hero but they don't seem bothered about him being cheered as a heel. Bingo. If WWE really wanted to deny fans the option of enjoying Punk, he wouldn't be increasingly featured so prominently. They wanted a new God Heel, and he was a better option than Cena at the time. I wish that actually were the way they were going with it; the flipside of the argument that WWE's made it so that Cena can, at the same time, be the top face to a portion of the audience and top heel to another. But it's just not true for either Punk OR Cena. It'd be a lot more vague, and they wouldn't have Punk getting his balls cut off and another element of his character destroyed by Cena in EVERY promo-off, and they wouldn't be pushing Cena as "the good guy" so hard to audiences that don't want to cheer him. They're very clearly trying to get fans of CM Punk to cheer Cena instead with some VERY forced writing decisions, when they have a brilliant setup for a whole new dynamic right in front of them. Stephanie talked about Cena vs. Rock being like Team Edward vs. Team Jacob. That statement was pretty maligned at the time, but excusing the Twilight comparison, I thought it was just about perfect; the idea of letting the crowd cheer whoever they wanted and not pushing one of them as "the one you should be rooting for" - The only problem with the statement was she picked the wrong feud to use. Because Team Bring It vs. The CeNation wasn't 50/50 with the audience, not by a long shot, and it wasn't ever going to be. WWE were (and still are) fooling themselves if they thought otherwise. No, the feud that most has the potential to explode into a Team Edward vs. Team Jacob-type phenomenon wasn't Rock vs. Cena; it was CM Punk, Anti-WWE Cult of Personality with only world domination and anarchy on his mind, his goal to bring the world to it's knees, with his followers loving his every act of transgression, all while knowing he doesn't give a s*** about them ("I exploit you, still you love me") vs. John Cena, paradigm of virtue who, while noble, represents a perhaps outdated, perhaps hollow idea - but one he believes in, and one HIS followers believe in, and for them he'll fight to the end. CM Punk as the Meta-Heel who the fans are ALLOWED to love for his dastardly deeds, should they choose to, and ALLOWED to loathe for being an absolute evil scumbag; and John Cena as the Meta-Face who the fans are ALLOWED to hate for being perceived by some as a representation of kiddie PG WWE and McMahon's Mary Sue Golden Boy, or allowed to love for his unwaivering fight for what he believes in. Let half the crowd be wearing CM Punk shirts, "Cena Sucks" shirts (do they still sell those?) and "Paul Heyman Guy" shirts (those are especially good, as an alignment with Heyman is seemingly an alignment against the WWE status quo - and giving disenfranchised wrestling fans someone to root for and live through, as current WWE fans have Cena for, is a brilliant idea) and let half the crowd wear Cena shirts. Just let them feel however they want, without trying to force what WWE wants down their throats. "Shades of grey" stories DO sometimes leave people confused as to who they should be rooting for. Other times, it lets them passionately take a side in a debate, and lets people get invested in a story because it can be seen different ways, as they believe "their" side is right. This is one of those times. Punk should be an inverse Cena, but they won't let it happen. They won't let him be a devious, smarmy bastard and play to his crowd. They won't let him be the Devil, because the Devil would charm people with promises of violence and chaos, while other people would feel that's wrong and rally against it. Punk should be more "magnificent bastard" and less "angry dude yelling at the fans about how their sports team sucks" That should be the dynamic, but it's not. It just has the potential for it to be that way, so everyone seems to think it's intentional and something WWE could play up. Me, I don't have that much faith in them.

The team jakobs/edward thing was actually happening when CM Punk returned Part of the fans were cheering Punk, other part Cena,i don't see why they couldn't have kept like that,it was working before.

CM Punk as the Anti-Christ of Wrestling is such a good luck. Sad that in the current WWE landscape they'll never let people indulge in a little transgression and cheer him as a real, borderline villainous anti-hero like Austin was early on. Punk should be like WWE's Tyler Durden, but they can't get over the fact that people went to see the Dark Knight for Heath Ledger's Joker and not Christian Bale's Batman, kids included. huh?
