We hit 30, so new thread! Old thread - officialfan.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=offtopic&thread=442890&page=30Last discussion was centring on how comics are going GrimDark again and I was saying how the Joker/Harley portion of Batman 13 made me a tad uncomfortable, but Red Skull and the brain just made me laugh. Perhaps because the torture of a brain removed from a dead guy was just over the top and comicy, but the psychological abuse was low key and more real?

disturbing things that actually happen in the real world tend to unnerve me more. that's why I can laugh my ass off at The Boys but I hate everything Mark Millar writes.

And just because it isn't GrimDark and is, in fact, a brilliant variant cover for the best looking new series coming in January - Young Avengers vs the World!

Yeah, Snyder is writing a great story, but I just didnt like that change in the statue quo between Mr J and Harley. It made me cringe. That's the best way I can describe it. It made me cringe.

just for clarity, what exactly happened? I don't mind spoilers. It isnt really clear, but {Spoiler}he basically mind rapes Harley so that she'll cut her own face off, and she goes along with it, but saying no and saying she doesnt want it as well, and then it's a trick and he doesnt do it to her after all. It doesnt sound right typed out, but when you're reading it.....cringe

I found it OK (But I get why people would find it disturbing), It showed how manipulative Joker is and how crazier he's gotten

It did the job, but it took what was a great story and went just a tad too far, for me.

So why has Joker gone for cutting off his face again? We don't know his full reason yet, But so far he says he left becuse Batman got boring, Lazy & fat since he got a "Family". And he wants to kill everyone he's close to, So the old Batman can come back. But's that's just Joker talking

So Joker, a peice fo crap psychopath doing something a peice of crap psychopath would do is to far? Eh things like this don't really bug me all that much. Picked up some stuff I was supposed to get last week but didn't get around to Transformers: More than Meets the Eye AnnualPretty good, but {Spoiler}Worried we might get a return to status quo what with the Titan telling Starscream that he is the chosen Conqueuer and the one to lead the Transformer race to greatness. The flashback scenes with the retro art to Nova Prime, Cyclonus, Galvatron, Jihaxus, and Dai Atlas were great and Omega Supreme was pretty cool. Also nice to get some good introspection from Metalhawk and I hope him and Starscream remain friends[/spoiler[ Transformers: Robots in Disguise{Spoiler}Opens up with a lot of the Crew of the Lost Light in Swerve's bar telling a story about an incident in their past lives that they were all involved in and jog Rung back to conciouness. We learn more about some of our crew
Chromedome used to be Prowl's partner before the war when they were both Investigators looking into the murder of a Sentaor who's body was marked with the Symboll of the Decepticon protest group, a group of Bots protesting the harsh and Elitest laws put in place by the current Prime Nominous that keeps the poor and downtrodden down but the powerful in charge.
Drift was a Circuit Booster addict who was about to be killed by Sonic and Boom *The two Genericon's Fort Max obliterated a few issues previous* before Optimus *Then known as Orion Pax* showed up and saved him before they could. Pax takes Drift to Rachet who is running a free clinic in the ghettos. They try to convince Drift to stick around and make something better of himself but he chooses to leave and lie about joining a Relinquishment Clinic, Clincs that allow people to switch bodied due to Sparkswap tech. While Pax and Ratchet talk a newcast shows that the current Prime, Nominus has died of a Rust infection, something Ratchet who routinley operated on Nominous knew was a lie. Ratchet and Pax leave to meet a friend of Ratchet's in the senate and find out a secret about Nominus, the Matrix he had was a fake and the Senate is planning on doing something about the group of Protestor's known as Decepticon's and Pax worries for the leader of the group, Megatron's safety but come to find otu he had been taken off planet to a Mining Outpost.
Chromedome stops Ratchet there and begins telling everyone that him and he Prowl traced glass found in Sherma's body to a Highrise Apartment building and when thy arrive another body falls to the entrance marked with the Decepticon symbol.
Meanwhile on the Lost Light Drift meets Rodimus and Grapple in the lower decks where they discover the remains of Red Alert and Rodimus called Drift up there so he wouldn't have to explain why he was going to kill Cyclonus, believing him to be the murderer. Wonder Woman #0{Spoiler} Didn't go to far into cahnging things based on Diana's background except let us know she received training from Ares as a child. Was still pretty cool though Jonah Hex #0{Spoiler}We come to find out Jonah's dad wasn't alwasy a peice of crap, he helped a few run away Mormon's hide from people hunting them and killed them before they could burn down his house with the Mormons and his family inside. Unfortunatley after Jonah was born he became the drunk we all know and love and it remains pretty much the same till we flash back to the present and Jonah finds out his mother is coming to Gotham

Why is Kid Loki doing the awesome baby fist pump? Your question includes the phrases "Kid Loki" and "awesome", therefore your question has answered itself.

All I can hope for out of this Joker event is that he kills Harley dead.

So Joker, a peice fo crap psychopath doing something a peice of crap psychopath would do is to far? Like I said, I think it was just because he was doing it to Harley, and she was saying no and it was just mind rape and it was cringe worthy. Maybe if it has been a different character, or even to a man it wouldnt have been a problem for me, but doing it to a woman, and to Harley no less.......no, it didnt, and still doesnt on subsequent readings, sit right.

The more I've thought of it, I think this was the point. How long have people been rooting for The Joker? Probably back to The Killing Joke/Nicholson portrayal. He's just portrayed as so diabolically awesome by various writers and actors that people almost want him to win. Snyder obviously wants the reader to see him as a pure villain and did something that pretty much no one can defend or root for. It's chilling but it makes sense in terms of where he wants the reader's sympathies to lie.

Certainly, I can see his point and back at the end of the pewvious thread agreed that it was a brilliant story and looks to be shaping up to be a Batman and Joker classic. It's just jarring. And as such, it did do the job. However uncomfortable it made me feel reading.
