The bolded part makes me think it is a work. If it wasn't what they had asked, why would you edit it AND air it? I really do hope this is a work. it sounds like only one person, who probably had nothing to do with storylines

Cryptic tweet by CM Punk... I say it a lot, but god, I love Punk. I can't tell if it's aimed at Richards, or Future Shock, but I still love it.

Davey I think has a very inflated opinion of how popular he is.
Whilst being talented and popular (Hell, If I were running a number 3 promotion he'd be one of the first guys I signed) I think at best he's a 250-300 dollar a night guy.
Internationally he should be doing it as cheap as possible. If you take into account flight, hotel and match fee you're looking at over a thousand USD. For Davey to hit the promoter up for double the match fee and still expect hotel and flight it's insane. You could get a WWE name guy for just as much if not less than what Davey is asking.
The promoter was kind of in a spot but wanted to do the right thing by the fans and have Davey lose it at a show. I personally wouldn't of even done that much I would of simply had Davey film a vignette the night he won the belt citing injuries, illegality, improper paperwork anything to save me the thousand it's going to cost to bring Davey in.
Now the promoter is in a spot, Either pay an insane amount for Davey to come back in or strip Davey of the belt. Hopefully the promoter wasn't dumb enough to let Davey leave town with the physical title belt.

Makes me feel better about my decision to not watch ROH as long as Davey Dick is still part of the promotion.

I don't see the point of doing this as a work. It may make people want to see Davey get his ass kicked, but they will want to see him get legitimately beaten, and no one will actually expect that to happen in a pro wrestling match, so they won't be more likely to buy a ticket hoping to see it. If anything, it will make them less likely to buy a ticket because they think Richards is a tool.

I guess like, if it's true, then Davey is just a big mark. He's a talented mark, and you hear wrestlers talk about how wrestling is better when the marks are in the seats.

The video in question makes it pretty clear it's just a bad angle to describe why he isn't on their next show, but will be back eventually. He cuts a very pro wrestling heel promo (which is very poorly edited together) about how he won't come back to defend the title until the promotion meets his demands. The video suggests its just an angle playing off his previous Iowa incident (he brings it up). He's the heel champion who is "being difficult to work with" based on a previous legit situation where he acted unprofessionally. If he were legitimately holding the promotion up for money, he wouldn't be taking the time to cut a pro wrestling promo with their cheap looking belt on his shoulder. "The only reason the promo was played for the crowd was because he sent it late and we couldn't watch it first to know what was in it." Riiight.

So it's a work then. That makes me feel a little better. In continuity with what's been written though it really is an awful quality video. Who cuts a promo in portrait? Is this World Star Hip Hop?
For an indy wrestler though I gotta question if it's all that wise to roll with a gimmick that you're an unprofessional dick that may or may not show up to an event.

Work or truth, that (literally) phoned-in promo is fair game for criticism. That crap would be low rent for even the tiniest and most resource-challenged indy fed in existence.
"It wasn't planned, but I changed the plans."
Riveting stuff, Davey.

If he's not talking about his dead grandpa(where he, admittedly, becomes f***ing eloquent), he's basically growling gibberish.

Davey is just a s***ty person. I think he's massively overrated as a performer as well.

Why don't they send one of their guys over to America, contact Davey and politely ask him if he would wear their belt on a show, and when he is in the middle of wrestling send their guy out through the crowd to snatch the belt and get on a plane back to England and never speak to this idiot again.

I would find it hilarious if this ends up being a work, because it would further prove that Davey Richards has such a terrible reputation online, to the point that we instantly believe anything that he does like this is 100% real.

Watch the video. I doubt anyone thinks it's real after seeing it. This was also a quick way to guarantee the promotion doesn't get much coverage in the future by Meltzer, since they worked him into printing their storyline as if it were legit.

if it is a work (I'm guessing it is) it seems awful counter-productive for a guy's gimmick to be "legit cockbag who may take your money and not actually show up".

It does make me feel better as well that it's a work, but as other people said, it's a strange one. Hey, all that stuff about me not showing up and demanding money. That's all a work. As a promoter, I would have a hard time believing stuff like that, especially if I'm legit of afraid of wrestlers pulling that stuff with me.

Here's the problem with this work. IF they manage to make me believe it's real, then eventually advertise a match where Davey is forced to come back and defend the belt... I wouldn't buy tickets, because it's already established that DAVEY IS A FLAKE AND WON'T BE THERE. So I won't spend money to see someone who it's made clear, work or not, won't be coming.
