By odd I just mean a character who wouldn't be an obvious choice, i.e. none of the more famous Avengers or Justice League members. It should, however, be a character that has enough of a following to have had their own title at one time. To provide a measuring stick, a character like Dr. Strange or Hawkman would be just barely obscure enough to qualify.
I have a couple different ideas for movies. I think Moon Knight could be great for a movie, though despite distinct differences between the two characters it could seem like a Batman knock-off to the uninitiated. I mentioned in another thread that I think with the right screenwriter, songwriter, and director they could make a Dazzler film that would be great for teenagers and especially young girls.
The Spectre short that DC included on of their recent DVDs was excellent and I would love to see that turned into a regular animated series. After seeing the short and reading Showcase Presents: The Spectre I am surprised he's not a more popular character. I almost wonder if he was a little ahead of his time, and by the time the darker feel of the stories would have had the most pop culture relevancy the character was already seen as old news.
I think a Tales From the Crypt type program with the Phantom Stranger in the Cryptkeeper role would be amazing. The Spectre would also work for that. Or, different episodes could feature different mystical DC characters and include Dr. Fate, Zatanna, Deadman, John Constantine and maybe even Swamp Thing. My favorite DC occult character is the Phantom Stranger though, and would be my top choice. I even dressed as the Stranger for Halloween this year.
Last but not least, I would like to see a good Man-Thing film that is much closer to the source material. I'm undecided as to whether or not Howard the Duck should make an appearance.
What characters would you like to see adapted to movies or television?
