I'd have to have Funaki/Nagata on here to finish what last year's show started. That feud was getting great, but (a) Funaki had that time out injured, and (b) when he won the Triple Crown, he had to get away from Nagata to build up the reign.

Over the last day or so, I've been educating myself on the greatness that is Masakatsu Funaki. I don't follow All Japan near as much as I do New Japan, and honestly didn't know much about the guy other than he beat Akiyama fast. Having watched that match, I must say that Funaki is an absolute beast that I'd pay money to see.
What shocks me is that Funaki along with Minoru Suzuki were in the same dojo class as guys like Chono, Hashimoto, Lyger and Benoit. Just imagine how different the New Japan landscape and history may have been if Funaki and Suzuki didn't start Pancrase and stayed in New Japan.

Funny, you're one of the few I've seen that actually enjoy Funaki's reign. A bunch of people have been unimpressed, or just really bothered by the fact that once again, an Akiyama title reign ended with him getting randomly squashed.
I like him too though.

Akiyama getting squashed for titles has to be a rib

Couple of changes to the card - Akebono and Bob Sapp have joined the opener to turn it into an 8 man - Akebono joins the babyfaces, Sapp the heels. Also, Daichi Hashimoto has broken his arm in Zero1, and has had to pull out of the show. Shinjiro Otani will replace him.

That's too bad, I was interested in seeing how Daichi could do. Replacing him with Otani, however, is a pretty damn good replacement.
Can't wait to see Akebono and Sapp.

I was hoping for Nagata/Funaki, but this is still a very strong card overall. I wonder if this year's Dome show will legitimately break 40k in attendance?

The hell is Lance Archer wearing?
Anyway, I've been hearing a lot of good things about New Japan, and how they're really pulled away from the pack there, and have been on fire recently. So I'm thinking of trying to catch this show.

With Wrestle Kingdom 7 about a week away, here's a cool highlight video for Wrestle Kingdom VI from earlier this year.

It's tomorrow - yet Dave Meltzer's suggestions in this week's Observer (Kidani influenced by Bischoff, wants to do another MMA takeover, Okada may be going to the WWE) are a bit worrying.

Okada going to the WWE? I'll believe that when I see it.
Everything else though...

Where did he mention the Okada bit? On a radio or was it in the newsletter? In his preview of the show in the newsletter, and subsequently a mention of it on the radio show. He's presenting it as rumour rather than his news.

Okada in the WWE? I'd be shocked.
Did Meltzer elaborate on what exactly the "influence" means? But that MMA rumor...ugh. A thousand times no on that. Please dear God.

Well, to be fair, it depends on what we're talking about in terms of MMA influences. Inoki himself had some MMA influences from pretty much the beginnings of his career, before the idea of MMA technically even existed. Nakamura sorta brought that back with the persona he's been running with for a while now. If it's more kneeing someone's face off and less the mess that was NJPW during the twilight of Inoki's reign, I say I'm for it.

It was back in August when New Japan made their iPPV available internationally. It goes live at midnight our time buy you can watch it for about a week afterwards. They cost $25. Personally, I think they're worth it, much more so than a $40+ WWE pay per view. I would actually order that if it was cheaper. Maybe I can scrape up $25 by then. I've never seen a Puro show live, I think it'd be interesting. I just looked at the UStream channel and it appears that they've raised the price to $35 now. Ehhh.

It means bringing in more MMA guys like Sakuraba, Sapp, etc. I'm not fond of it unless New Japan guys end up beating like..Jerome Le Banner in three minutes but I don't see that happening.
