Distinct characters involved in storylines. It's not rocket science but it's something they have a hard time to doing now with the men's division.
TNA was booking perfect women's wrestling a few years ago with several distinct personalities
Gail Kim & Taylor Wilde - plucky babyfaces Kharma - unstoppable monster Beautiful People - shallow bitches ODB - female Sandman Hamada - bad ass Daffney - crazy goth etc Often times, their storylines would intertwine with the men's storylines. It was the most I've ever been invested in women's wrestling WWE's idea of a character is giving Natalya a flatulance problem

If WWE uses the Divas to sell sex to men, they could pick certain male Superstars to do the same for the Women's market. There are lots of "good looking" guys on the current roster. Dolph Ziggler's gimmick is pretty much being a sex symbol.

Is there anything going on now involving strong women (not reality tv show related) that the wwe could cash in on and use?

Give Kaitlyn a bow and arrow. Let Cody Rhodes seduce AJ into the world of S&M. Debut Paige as the center of a love triangle involving Justin Gabriel and Christian. Make Natalya, Layla, Alicia Fox, Tamina and The Funkadactyls move to Atlanta and Bitch at each other. Turn Eve, Rosa and Aksana into sisters. Eve starts dating JTG. Rosa gets married to The Miz and Aksana becomes a couple with a returning Jack Swagger.
There, Ol' Ric just saved the day.

Eve dates a eccentric black man with a mighty ego. Rosa marries a douchebag that loves hairgel and suits. Aksana becomes attached to an athlete.
I thought it was clever...

Could they easily use female wrestlers to draw a bigger female crowd? I know there are girls in the crowd but seems to me there could be more. WWE is all ass backward when it comes to drawing the average female market. The entire Cena/AJ story is to apparently draw women in soap-style, except the entire appeal of Cena is being single and potentially available. It's kind of the way the "Trish has a boyfriend" thing in 2006 died on the vine in the Mickie James build. People want to romanticize and fantasize about them as attainable, even though they're clearly not. And as a result (in this case) it alienates men who feel the whole thing is stupid, and women don't care. I mean, who could possibly care and want to see them together? They have less chemistry than Kristen Stewart and the sparkly vampire. Now, on the other hand, WWE should be building up say an AJ, in the ring, as a relatable avatar for younger girls. Instead of the schitzo character they write that is increasingly unlikeable. I've always thought that girls doing amazing things in the ring could get over if produced and booked right. But instead, WWE keeps churning out the same one minute cheesecake shlock, only without the actual cheesecake. I dunno one of the attitude angles that I remember women actually watching for was the Kurt Stephanie and Hunter love triangle. I do however agree that they should be using AJ with the childhood fan living her dream thing.

Its like the late nineties was all about Woman Power and now its all about romance You could make the argument, as my own GF has, that it's not romance that sells these days, so much as domesticating and breaking the spirit of unattainable men. From Twilight to 50 Shades, the main Arc is a seemingly unspectacular woman molding a dangerous archetype into what THEY want him to be. All the while, these male characters, never really explain what it is about these boring and flat female characters that they're actually attracted to, and go to the ends of the earth for. It's pretty much ego porn for women.

It's pretty much ego porn for women. Considering 50 Shades was originally Twilight fanfic, I think those two could really be lumped into the same category. But yeah, I think the fantasy of the unspectacular woman getting an unattainable man holds as much appeal for ladies as the schlubby, unspectacular male getting the perfect 10 woman does for dudes. I'm not sure that's anything wrestling should touch, though... massively different genres.

^Considering the amount of wrestling fanfic on the internet, I'm surprised that WWE never blatantly played to the fanfic crowd. AJ seems like the perfect character to tap into that audience. And certain male wrestlers could be paired together as a tag team or a feud solely for the sake of inspiring fanfic writers. Pair up two random, kind of attractive guys (i.e. Zack Ryder & The Miz), throw in some dialogue that can be taken out of context, and BAM.

The wrestling version of what Sean explained would be a Nicole Bass lookalike being the WWE Champion while all of the men fawn all over her.
Or I guess in a lesser way, the AJ character would be good: A character that was nothing more than a "prop" that through a sequence of events has become a very powerful character. Really through nothing other than manipulating men. Dumb men.

Women have been sharing the action genre with men this whole decade. The Resident Evil/Underworld movies, the popularity of super heroes at the box office, Angelina Jolie movies like Wanted and Salt, Kill Bill, othet stuff. As for tv I can't remember any notable tough women shows since Dark Angel and Alias.

WWE also shouldn't be afraid to let their talented women go, for fear of them outwrestling the men.
