Played the same character in a franchise and it's reboot? After seeing Skyfall, I got to thinking, and I can't remember any franchise that was rebooted keep a major cast member around in the same part.

Robert Brown could count in the Bond Franchise though Q is the same as well.

Leonard Nimoy, in JJ Abrams' STAR TREK. Robert Brown could count in the Bond Franchise though Q is the same as well. And Bernard Lee, I would think. Are the Craig 007 movies a reboot? I've never been clear on the thought of that....

Michael Gough played Alfred in both the Tim Burton and the Joel Schumaker versions of the Batman series.

I've never been clear on the thought of that.... The movies where they are M don't have any reboots, just different actors in the same role. Dench came on as M in Goldeneye, and was the only one who wasn't replaced when Craig took over. The Craig ones are reboots, according to the director. It also makes sense for them to be reboots, since they show Bonds first missions, and they're set after the Cold War is over. Apparently, the Brosnan Bond movies were also supposed to be reboots, but I don't know how much that holds up, since they seem to make subtle references to previous Bonds. As for Nimoy, should that count? I guess it does even though he's not the Spock of the reboot series.

I'm pretty certain that the Schumaker movies are just sequels to the Burton ones, not reboots. I like to think the latter 2 films were so awful that they shunted themselves into a parallel universe obsessed with neon lighting.

Is X-Men : First Class a reboot? If so you could have the two cameos in there. But it might just be a straight prequel.

(Gah, a lotta that in this thread, huh?) Patrick Duffy, Linda Gray and Larry Hagman (well....not anymore - RIP Larry) are/were all playing their old characters, and the newer characters are their kids/successors. I figured the old series still happened....

Leonard Nimoy as Spock Prime in Star Trek? It pretty much says it's a reboot in the film itself.

Bob Hoskins played Smee in Hook and the sci fi flick Neverland Wow, I actually completely forgot that miniseries. Leonard Nimoy as Spock Prime in Star Trek? It pretty much says it's a reboot in the film itself. I don't know if he should be counted, since the plot throws a wrench into it. It is a reboot, but he's not playing the Spock of the reboot, Zachary Quinto is. He's just playing time traveling plot device Spock.

Spock is Spock. His timeline has simply changed. He's just aware of it.

Rumors are they want J.K. Simmons to return as J. Jonah Jameson in an Amazing Spider-Man sequel. Which is why they left the character out of the first movie, figuring having an actor return would confuse people as to the reboot (much like Judi Dench as M pre and post reboot has).

Yeah, it'd be a little odd continuity wise but I don think you're gonna find a better J. Jonah Jameson on film. And his voice will always be the voice I hear in my head when I read his dialogue in comics

if we're counting voice actors, Steve Blum and Kevin Conroy seem to have a monopoly on playing Wolverine and Batman respectively in every medium other than live action. not that that's a bad thing.
