We said during the guest host era that the best guest hosts were the one who were honestly fans of the product and seemed to us like they were marking out; for example, with Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers, it was obvious that Big Ben was a fan and they were all enjoying themselves, all up to the group DX crotch-chop.
There were enough guest hosts, though, where you... didn't get that vibe.
I'm talking about hosts who made it very obvious that they were just there to shill, and stopped just short of turning up their nose at the product around them. (though considering a lot of Raw in 2009 I can't blame them, but I digress). Jeremy Piven is the first that comes to mind, but he's usually towards the top of Worst Guest Hosts lists anyway.
I've mentally blocked out a lot of that time period; perhaps some people with better memories can help?

First up the best hosts: Ted DiBiase, Seth Green, Shaquille O'Neal, Freddie Prinze Jr., Dusty Rhodes, Bob Barker, Trish Stratus, Nancy O'Dell & Maria Menounos, Snoop Dogg, Ozzy & Sharon Osbourne, Jesse Ventura, Mark Cuban, Bret Hart, Mike Tyson, Jon Heder & Don Johnson, Dule Hill, William Shatner, Carl Edwards and the cast of Macgruber.
And the worst: ZZ Top, Jeremy Piven & Dr. Ken, Sgt. Slaughter, Cedric the Entertainer, Kyle Busch & Joey Logano, Ricky Hatton, Verne Troyer, Johnny Damon, Jerry Springer, Cheech & Chong, Criss Angel, Pete Rose, Rob Corddry & Clark Duke, Wayne Brady, Buzz Aldrin, Ashton Kutcher and the cast of The A-Team.
Absolute best: Jon Heder. If you say ANYBODY but him, go watch his match on YouTube as The Flame. You'll change your mind.
Absolute worst: Toss up between ZZ Top and the cast of The A-Team. While some of the bad ones were merely forgettable, these were so awful they're permanently burned into my brain.

What did Freddy do that was so bad? Freddy got us Macaulay Culkin, so that keeps him from being anywhere near the worst. I actually think Seth Green was an overlooked, good guest host. He doesn't get mentioned a lot in the "best guest hosts" discussions.

Jeremy Piven and Dr. Ken were the worst guest hosts by far, and I can never ever get them out of my head. Ken was absolutely horrendous, and Piven couldn't even get the name of Summerslam right for god sakes.

The only redeeming thing of The A-Team hosted episode was the Santino/Kozlov dance-off.

Oh... right... and the debut of The Nexus.

What did Freddy do that was so bad? Nothing. I actually got the idea of the thread wrong. Worst guest hosts to me were Al Sharpton, the NASCAR guys, Cedric, and Timbaland.

Some of the guest hosts were horrible, but only one made me totally dislike the host. That was Bradley Cooper as part of the A-Team. Sure, the script for Rampage Jackson and that other dude sucked, but they at least looked like they wanted to be there. Cooper on the other hand, just came out and said, "Hi. Enjoy the show. Bye." I'm usually all for the guest host not hogging all the camera time, but he really came across as someone who was embarrassed to be associated with something that has brought me a lot of entertainment over the years. To this day, I refuse to watch any of his films, although I did cave and see "The Hangover II." Ironically, I was the one who was embarrassed to be there...

Am I the only one that liked Jeremy Piven and Dr. Ken? I liked Piven, hated Dr. Ken. Hell, Piven was game for getting physically involved, I gotta give him props for that.

Am I the only one that liked Jeremy Piven and Dr. Ken? I dunno if I "liked" it per se, but I'll always give credit to the two of them for actually taking bumps. With someone like Dennis Miller, he was just there to shill, and clearly didn't know anything about, or really appear to care about WWE.

Ya I have to agree with Bradley Cooper. He seemed like he was simply there to pick up a check and promote his new movie. You know somethings off when his co-stars are out having a good time in the ring and he's no where to be seen.

Al Sharpton was by far the worst. Completely uninterested and unfunny.
The cast of MacGruber gets a close second.

Bob Barker was by far the best guest host they ever had, and I'm not just saying that because I'm a gameshow fan.
ZZ Top is definitely one of the worst. If I recall right as well, all their backstage segments were prerecorded and they only came out at the end to prove they were actually AT the arena.

Yeah, I gotta give it to Piven and Dr. Ken as well for the worst. Dennis Miller and Jerry Springer were equally worthless. I think perhaps had they hosted 10 years earlier, but you could tell that both had gone soft in their lives, and now wanted to be anywhere but guest hosting a.....gasp....Wrestling Show....and it showed.
Best: I really dug Jesse Ventura hosting....as for celebs....I think Hugh Jackman recently outdid most of the other celebrity hosts.....he was great....and Bob Barker also. Not sure if the Muppets count, but that turned out a good deal better than I thought it would.
