Has Steiner always been that bad? I'm not so sure about his early stuff but I do remember when Booker T won the WCW title and Steiner came out and attacked him. Steiner wasn't looking great at all during then. He used to be so much better back in the day but he just didn't improve. Sad but he did it to himself. Big Poppa Pump lol. Hell I liked Buff Bagwell more anyway. Up until the late 90s Scott Steiner was a fantastic in ring talent, I consider the Steiner Brothers one of the best tag teams of all time and I know many others think the same. Late 90s onwards is where he became a meme due to awful injuries (and working through them) along with just being so focused on weightlifting that in ring skill became a far far second. His promos always sucked in the same hilarious way through his career. When I look back at his old WCW/Japan work it's almost scary how good the Steiners used to be it was like if two Brock Lesnars decided to become a tag team.

At least he got to debate Nowinski about the war in Iraq. Revealing the startling admission that Steiner's wrestled a lot of countries. His funniest moment during that run.

I always thought his funniest moment in the 'E was during a match with Test, Steiner tries to do a dive off the apron but, trips and falls behind Test and Test sells it anyways.

Steiner really had a chance out of the gate. He was one of the only WCW guys who kept improving during his tenure there, and had a great look and gimmick. People were really anticipating his return. If his body was in better shape, he could have had a better run.

There's a good article about Scott Steiner's career in this month's issue of Fighting Spirit Magazine. They conclude there that Steiner's WWE run was a direct result of Vince McMahon wanting to further bury the legacy of WCW by putting one of the last guys to wear the WCW World Championship in the path of Triple H to be bulldozed.
They also say Steiner was close to signing for the NWA/TNA at that point because of his relationship with Jerry Jarrett, and his name was being used as a main event talent to get the promotion off the ground, before he decided to sign for WWE because of the financial benefits.
They paint a very mercenary picture of Steiner, and make him seem like a particularly nasty character out of the ring.

Depends on what you mean by destined to fail.
Because of Steiner's injury? Yes, it was.
Any other reason? Not a chance. Steiner was over like rover when he debuted, his mic work was bizarro-brilliant because people loved it even though it was stupid and he could somehow still work a good match even though he sucked.
So, no, no it wasn't destined to fail except for his injury which ruined any shot at a good match.

Triple H is too proud to intentionally "bury" anybody with bad matches against himself...... Booker T and Chris Jericho say hello HI guys. Still the truth.

I don't think anybody anticipated just quite how bad his matches with Triple H would be. Although I think they should've done a Street Fight or some kind of gimmick match at No Way Out.

Triple H is too proud to intentionally "bury" anybody with bad matches against himself...... Booker T and Chris Jericho say hello HHH deserved a lot of the flack he got for "burying" Jericho, RVD and Booker T during that era. But not Steiner -- he brought it upon himself. I don't think he had one good match, with HHH or otherwise, during his time in WWE. They were right to end his quest to become "the next World Heavyweight Championship" judging by his total lack of in-ring ability.

Just as an anecdotal sidenote, I had a friend in college that watched RAW with me almost every week from 1996-2000 - I don't think he watched another episode after the HHH/Steiner "pose-down" on RAW, he was just turned off from wrestling permanently after that. This is making me laugh far more than it probably should.

I was both amazed and relieved that it didn't end with them having angry sex in the middle of the ring.

I thought the angle with Test and Stacy Keibler was awful. It wasn't so bad at first, but when they teamed together it got creepy.

Great, now I'm torn between wanting to youtube it and wanting to stay as far away with it as I possibly can.

It always bothered me he couldn't pronounce "holla" as anything but "holler." Also, that he claimed he was my "hook-up" when he clearly had no idea what that meant. No, he knew exactly what it meant. Steiner is a very smart man, he just works being crazy. There's a few shoot interviews that show he's coherent and logical.

Regarding the posedown, it made for one of the most hilarious cutscenes in Smackdown HCTP. I thought that was one of the funniest cutscenes in season mode.
As for the real thing, I agree, that was pretty homoerotic.

Damnit, I didn't follow my advice. Wow you were right...and I can see how it might turn a fan off of wrestling for life.

First let me preface this by saying that the Steiner Brothers were indeed a legendary tag team worldwide.
I greeted Scott Steiner at a Brooklyn bar when the wrestlers went there after an MSG house show in '92 or '93. He punked me because he was looking for pussy and did not want to hang with his fans. Scott was an obnoxious dick then, so I can only imagine what it would be like to have to work with a guy so full of himself. Could his WWE fate be due to the very real possibility he made some enemies in the locker room? Just sayin'....

i think his WWE run fell flat on its face as well, largely due to the fact that his first feud was against HHH and was just booked completely wrong with stuff the fans just did NOT care about, IE the benchpress contest, posedown, etc, coupled with the fact that their two matches were terrible...HOWEVER, people in here claiming he always sucked on the mic and stuff, PLEASE...go watch any of his promos from say mid 1998 through 2000 on Nitro, the guy was RETARDEDLY OVER and drew more heel heat than ANYONE on current WWE programming without question...the fans HATED HIS GUTS and he was an awesome monster heel, leading to a deserved world title run
