Bit of an odd analogy, but bear with me. A lot of people (including Cornette) complained about WWE never signing ODB when she was down in OVW. And the simple fact was at the time they had Beth Phoenix, Katie Lea, Nattie Neidhart, Krissy Vaine, Shantelle Taylor and Angel Williams all under contract. And while she wasn't picked up until years later, Serena was working there too. Given all that, why bother with ODB? Similar thing with Joe. When WWE has CM Punk, Bryan Danielson, Tyler Black, Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, had Low-Ki until he quit, tried to get Nigel McGuinness and is apparently working on getting Chris Hero. Why would they bother with Joe? Because he brings something different stylistically and aesthetically to the table. Not all indy guys wrestle the same match.

It's bizarre that WWE aren't interested in Joe, yet have spent the last few months hyping up a guy who is twice as fat with 1/10th of the talent Joe has.

They like you big, but if you keep getting bigger they realize it isn't good. They liked both Yokozuna and Mabel as bg fat guys, but when they came to a point where they kept gaining they pulled the plug on em

They were interested in him in 2006 and offered him the Umaga character but he turned it down because he didn't want to be stereotyped.
He might have not been regretting it when he was TNA World Champion but now? He's probably wishing he went to WWE. At least he wouldn't be having matches on Xplosion.

Basically, he's no longer a hot commodity and he wasn't interested in leaving TNA when he was.
It sucks that injuries and bad booking knocked him off track, because for a brief period of time he may have topped Undertaker for the title of "best big man in wrestling". Alas, since the WWE roster's heavily stacked as it is, a good indy run might be better for him at this point.

Samoa Joe was offered the Umaga role?
Should have taken it.

He's totally lost his motivation. He's not just fat, he's obese now. They definitely should have signed him in 2004-5, when he was arguably the best wrestler in America, but now he's not worth it.

He's stuck in the worst way. TNA won't use him and WWE won't sign him because he's unmotivated; he's unmotivated because TNA won't use him and WWE won't sign him. His size isn't the problem, because if he was motivated, he wouldn't be as big as he is. Hell, even if he was, he'd figure out a way to work around it. It's just awful.

Umaga was a hack gimmick, same old wild Samoan deal from decades ago, I can understand passing.

I assume you're talking about Brodus Clay and if you are, he at least looks like he gives a damn in the ring and you can see he is putting in effort to get his moves/character over.

Brodus has quite a different look actually. he looks intimidating, like someone who would f*** you up. Joe just looks like someone who'd think you were a hamburger and try to eat you (thanks Scott Steiner!). . he just looks like a regular fat guy. an average "Joe" if you will. if they did every sign him he'd have to get a new name. "Samoa Joe" sounds so stupid. drop the Samoa, and add a last name.

I don't get how people are putting him down just because his stock is low right now. Has people forgot that this is the same Joe that put on great matches with angle, styles, daniels and decent on the mic? I'd rather see him over Brodus Clay and Husky Harris any day.

Even in the shape he is in now I still he is a great wrestler, decent on the mic and can have great matches I would much rather see Joe anyday in the mic than Jinder Mahal or Ted DiBiase or Brodus Clay

I don't think Umaga was necessarily a bad character, Fatu worked it like a mofo, but it was a well-worn and marginalizing one. I can understand an established, very well-respected guy like Joe passing on it.

Joe told them "Thanks, but no thanks" in 2000.
WWE is just petty that way.
