Dave Meltzer has confirmed that CM Punk will walk with Chael Sonnen to the Octagon at UFC on FOX 2 in Chicago on January 28th, the day before the Royal Rumble. That'll be awesome!

For a moment I thought this was going to be a discussion on how Punk would do as an MMA fighter, to which my answer would be "horribly".
But that's pretty good exposure for him.

I think Dana will ban this from happening.

That's pretty cool. This makes me think that when Dana White had that meeting with Vince McMahon some months back (the one that got people speculating Brock vs. Taker at 'Mania) it was really to discuss more general cross-promotion type stuff.

Will UFC point out that he is a fake wrestler???

Will UFC point out that he is a fake wrestler??? This is the danger here. First of all, I highly doubt Punk will be able to wear his WWE title when he accompanies Sonnen. This will reduce the cred of the WWE title implicitly because it's only a 'fake wrestling belt' and has no significance, despite having been in existence for 50 years. Secondly the commentators will not acknowledge's Punk's presence at all, I don't think. If they do I suspect something sarcastic from Joe Rogan.

So does UFC not like WWE anymore? I thought Dana White and Vince McMahon were pretty cool, and that Dana was even at WWE HQ a while ago on a tour?
I think it's freaking sweet to see CM Punk walk down the aisle especially with the WWE title on UFC TV. I know most people think so, but I don't think the UFC and WWE compete. I think they're both individually different and both respect what the other does. Neither is easy and both are very hard to master in their respective ways and I'd be willing to bet a huge chunk of people who get into MMA were at one point wrestling fans.

If the WWE title does appear on UFC programming, it's glittery spinner and "CHAMP" text should really help legitimise WWE in the eyes of MMA fans.

Legitimize it how? Is there anyone on this planet, especially UFC fans that don't know pro wrestling is entertainment? CM Punk is easily the coolest wrestler in the world right now and the only guy who'd catch the interest of UFC fans outside of Brock that aren't already watching the product or have wandered off from WWE. There's no need to sell CM Punk as anything but the best in the world at being a pro wrestler.

He's pretty damn good on the mic, I'd love to see him join the WWE one day. Check out the video "Sonnen Sounds Off" on youtube.

It is very ironic that on the "Heel promos outside of wrestling" thread that somebody posted a bunch of videos of the guy, and I instantly thought the guy would be perfect in wrestling.

Yeah I think Punk will just show up in either a hoodie or a Sonnen shirt or something. They probably won't draw much attention to him. Remember when Batista led Manny Pacquiao to the ring?

I think it would be awesome and surreal to see C.M. Punk on a U.F.C. broadcast and Chael Sonnen by far cuts the best promos in any business nowadays!
On a side note one of my best friends and next door neighbor growing up is making his UFC debut on the Fox 2! Go Lavar "Big" Johnson! ;D

And that would be the most idiotic move they could make. Dana White is cool with Vince McMahon, going as far as to allow them to put Brock Lesnar in the newest WWE video game. If you bury the WWE Champion when he was allowed to appear on your program, you're basically taking the working relationship and shooting it in the head.

God, some of the reactions here are ridiculous. Stop being so protective of wrestling as if Rogan and Goldberg are gonna relentlessly rip on Punk.
A) Punk wont bring the belt. Thats common sense.
B) Theyll namedrop him as theyve done with Taker, Angle, Stone Cold (who BTW got an awesome pop from the crowd at UFC 81) and The Rock.
