As soon as I saw him, I realized how much I immediately missed "SRS Jericho".
I can't wait to see where this goes.

He has said that he wanted to do something that is nothing like what he has done before. With what he did last night, you can't really argue otherwise. Yeah, the same way you ask for something different from seafood or beef and get tofu. There are other alternatives out there besides that. It just comes off as lazy in retrospect. How was it lazy? If anything, its pretty freaking brave. He went out there and pandered as hard as he could to the point of satire.

I keep hearing comparisons to what Jericho did last night to what Andy Kaufman used to do. Can someone elaborate that story since I'm not too familiar with Kaufman's work?

Considering how WWE loves to get our hopes up with things and then gives us something incredibly unsatisfying, I really wouldn't be suprised.

I just...idk. I just can't see a connection with what he did last night, and what those hype videos were foreshadowing. Something about false prophets and reclaiming what is rightfully his...and then he just comes out and acts like a goof for 10 minutes. I'm thinking it will lead to something that makes last night's segment worth it, but I'm not even going to bother making any predictions.

I kind of seemed like it was a parody of big, over the top promos that the WWE likes to do. People wanted it to be something huge because of how over the top they were, and in the end it was just a guy f****** with people.

Maybe it's just the beginning, we haven't seen nothing yet.

I think they were basically a self-aware parody of ham-fisted, overly serious "Something BIG is coming" teases for stuff like Cloverfield or Undertaker's returns, or even Save_Us.222. And I think it was great.
Of course, there WAS something just a little unsettling about the whole thing, like Jericho was about to just drop the smile and pull a Bud Dwyer up there. It was all that surreal.

Just watched his return on youtube. It was cool how much of a pop he got but after about 8 minutes I got bored with it. Won't watch the actual show next week but will probably pop in here to get a summary of anything important.

Jericho understands the iwc mentality better than anyone here. He played the crowd, and us, brilliantly. In more ways than we'll ever probably realize.

I got through a few parts of that documentary, that s*** is brilliant. Confused, laughing, pissed off, and laughing again. That seems to be the emotions that people would feel for Kaufman during a show.

I don't know if I can post it on here, probably not, but try to look for some of Brian Pillman's Loose Cannon work in WCW, ECW, and WWF. Especially when he showed up in the ECW arena and immediately went from the crowd marking out like crazy to booing him out of the place and the few who still got it trying to latch on to how cool he was being for trolling them, then him immediately trying to piss them off. it was brilliant and very similar to what happened last night

I thought the whole segment crossed the line about 5 times. First, it was "cool, good, its' Jericho" then it was "the f*** is he wearing why is he smiling and acting like a doofus?" to "ok, this is actually kind of awesome the fans are loving it" to "man, this is bombing, its going far too long" to "hmmmmmmm" to "this is amazing, Jericho you magnificent bastard!"

I think some of you are overplaying how loud the boos were. The cheers were transforming into mild boos but it wasn't Rock in Toronto heat or anything. Jericho's just a difficult man to boo. I wish him luck in his quest to get everyone to hate him, honestly. Half of the crowd didn't know how to react to it. The same can be said for this board. I think if he either keeps up the act next week or comes out and cuts a promo on how stupid the fans are, he'll get the reaction we're hoping for. Maybe I'm just an optimist, but I'm surprised so many people are hating this return! It was eerie, creepy, and confusing. Just like those 1/2/12 promos. Watching it again, there WAS something just a little unsettling about the whole thing, like Jericho was about to just drop the smile and pull a Bud Dwyer up there. Lawler sounded worried, and Jericho looked like he was having a meltdown of some sort out there. It was all that surreal.

Bud Dwyer is the guy who shot himself on tv, right? ...I was thinking the same thing. The more I think about the thing, the most creepy it was in retrospect.

anyone remember Cyberslam 96, the night Brian Pillman showed up in the ECW arena and had the crowd go from marking out for him to wanting to run him out of the arena?

Considering where I'm from and the age I am... (...and morbidly, exactly what I was doing as the New Year was brought in this time around...)
