25 years does not = 25th anniversary.

I noticed that, too. Typical WWE math.

I get that they do it so it sounds cooler and more buzzworthy, but it just makes them look so dumb.

It's instant gratification. I mean, what's wrong with promoting the ACTUAL 25th-anniversary as such next year? It seems really shortsighted for no good reason.

Whatever math geniuses. You're right, but, I doubt the average person cares a whole lot.

I guess it goes to call something "the first annual". It doesn't make much literal sense, but you know, it doesn't much matter.

I don't even care about these anymore. If they want to look stupid they can.

Eh, I don't care.
They can call it what they want, I just want a good show.

While not the technical 25th anniversary, I do understand where they're coming from.
Typically, your first anniversary is the first year after an event. Like your birthday, or your wedding anniversary. What happens if that event is the first of the series? What if you turned one on the day of your birth. That's silly in terms of a person, but for an event like that, it's perfectly reasonable. It's the 25th annual Rumble, and the same deal with WM25. Their terminology may be sketchy, but it's not technically WRONG.

Eh, I don't care. They can call it what they want, I just want a good show. This. Im just happy they are using the past highlights of Royal Rumble's to hype the event up, they dont do it enough. It makes this years seem more important

They could and should just call it the "25th Annual Royal Rumble". Sounds just as good, as is entirely correct.

Not as bad as most of the world declaring 2000 as the new millennium.

*scratches head*
I've always been pretty poor at math. So I'm feeling really dumb right now. Can somebody please explain to me why it's not correct? I heard the same thing about Wrestlemania 25 but I've never seen somebody explain it, presumably because I'm just a complete f***tard when it comes to this sort of thing.
EDIT: Never mind. I figured it out. The 2nd Royal Rumble would have technically been the 1st anniversary of the Royal Rumble. So that would make this one the 24th anniversary. *shrugs* it's incorrect but it doesn't bother me. I have much more obvious things to bitch about.

I think they don't want to confuse people with "the 25th annual (event)" one year and the next year being "the 25th anniversary of (event)". the next

An anniversary is a celebration of something X amount of years ago. WrestleMania 1 was the first one, so WrestleMania 2 was the first anniversary of Wrestlemania. Like when you get married. The year after the wedding is the first anniversary. It's the same thing as when people were complaining that the 21 century didn't start until 2001.

Thanks for clearing it up, I figured it out a few minutes ago though. Damn, I hate numbers. They are the bane of my existence.
