At the time I was meh on it, but it was The Rock so how could you not love it? I think I've grown to like the character more over time.

Hollywood Rock is the only character who got my non-wrestling fan friends to watch RAW. They would even ask me when RAW was on so they could make sure to watch Rock.

Like the old adage goes, most of the best characters in wrestling are those that are extremely amped-up extensions of the actual wrestler's personality.
Now, I'm not saying that Hollywood Rock was anything like real-life Dwayne Johnson, but rather that he played perfectly into what many wrestling fans thought of him. His earlier departure left a lot of his fans with a sour feeling, and rather than try and change that, he played off of it, while including real facets of his personality in it.
Was brilliant.

Leaving Sacramento was one of the funniest things ever on television. Even Stone Cold in the truck was laughing. Don;t know if you can link to it, but the video are all over.

I'll admit, I enjoyed Hollywood Rock quite a bit. Not liked much else Rock's done, besides The Rundown, but I'll give him that.

If there was any justice, this thread would be up for all times. The greatest run of any wrestler, ever. Fantastic stuff every week.

I didn't love it at the time because I was both 12 and a solid Stone Cold mark but I will be damned if it wasn't just glorious in retrospect.

I thought Hollywood Rock was one of the best characters ever. I loved everything about it. As for that character being one of the best heels ever? Nah. He was too damn funny, charming, entertaining, and just lovable to be a true heel. I thought the whole purpose of his heel run was to feed into the fans resentment of him selling out to Hollywood and facilitate true hatred from them. Instead he went out there and reminded them why they loved him so much again. So much so that when he returned later in 2004, he just came back a default face and the boos were never heard again.

Yeah H. Rock had to go out of his way to get the fans to boo him, he always came out to a thunderous applause and he had to keep telling the fans to stop 'singing along with the Rock' when they did his catchphrases with him.
Even so, that kinda mentality brought out gems like 'maple-syrup-sucking jabronis' (or whatever he said to get the Canadians to boo him out the building) so he made it a win, regardless!

Go watch the Hollywood entrance from No Way Out. He gets pretty heavy boos.
