Once upon a time, WWE debuted a new babyface named Sheamus, a fun-loving, hot-headed Irishman. Sheamus started on the B-show, Smackdown, spending months beating lower-midcard heels like Jinder Mahal and Heath Slater while palling with his leprechaun buddy, Hornswoggle.
After a brief angle with Christian, Sheamus got his first big push when he feuded against Mark Henry, which culminated in Henry beating Sheamus via countout at Summerslam. The loss provided the impetus to turn Sheamus heel, and he spent the next few months challenging Randy Orton for the World Heavyweight Championship on TV.
Sheamus was drafted to RAW and quickly won the United States Championship, although he missed what would've been his first Wrestlemania when his US title defense was bumped off the main card. Sheamus dropped the belt shortly thereafter and fell into a losing streak, but managed to regain his momentum after becoming the new King of the Ring. This achievement pushed Sheamus into a new feud against Randy Orton, now the WWE champion, and this time around, Sheamus was a big enough deal to wrestle him at PPVs.
Sheamus eventually won the WWE championship, albeit through sneaky means, in a multi-man match involving interference from the Nexus. While Sheamus' reign was promoted as secondary compared to the Nexus angle, he nonetheless held the belt for several months, and successfully defended his title against both Orton and John Cena.
After finally being definitively beaten out of the world title picture, Sheamus moved on to feuding against the legendary Triple H, brutally assaulting the Game in a street fight that threatened to end the Game's career. This lead to a blowoff match a month later at Wrestlemania, where Triple H got his revenge by defeating Sheamus.
But not one to be outdone, Sheamus quickly rebounded and won the WWE championship for a second time, this time far more decisively, beating top star John Cena fair and square in a tables match.
(Then he got shunted off to ECW out of the blue and released a few months later. The dirt sheets had a field day with that one.)
