Easily one of my favourite things about the Spider-Man movie. She was cute, funny, not too over the top and had an amazing chemistry with Andrew Garfield.

She was the only thing I liked about the movie.

I loved a ton about this movie, but she was clearly #1.

Yeah she was great in the movie, Way better and more interesting than Mary Jane. Yeah Gwen Stacy > Mary Jane and Emma Stone > Kirsten Dunst. Especially the second one Stone is hotter, a better actress and comes over more likable in my opinion. I can't think of any movie that I have enjoyed Dunst's performance in

I just watched this movie last week and have to agree. I'm a big fan of Sam Raimi's work, but this film was more my style. Yeah the lizard was a little hokey at times, but overall they really nailed it (having Martin Sheen and Sally Field on board didn't hurt either).
Emma Stone's Gwen Stacy was so much better than the MJP from Raimi's movies though. Stacy actually did stuff other than being "girl in peril #932" and the chemistry and arc of her relationship with Peter felt really natural.

I agree. I largely prefer ASM to the Raimi trilogy because it felt a lot more fun than his movies, with a lot of similarities to the Ultimate Spidey comics. Also great casting and Emma Stone is a big part of that. I love her as an actress and her Gwen was so much more enjoyable than Dunst's Mary Jane Watson.
I know they have plans to follow Spidey canon and kill off Gwen (likely the third movie), which makes me really sad. And they've already cast someone for MJ for ASM2. I just hope she's as good in her role as Stone was in Gwen's. Or at least she's a better MJ than Dunst was, though that shouldn't be very hard.

I still can't quite understand how many people loved ASM. Considering the complaints leveled at other films this past summer, you'd think this would've been ripped as well.

I still can't quite understand how many people loved ASM. Considering the complaints leveled at other films this past summer, you'd think this would've been ripped as well. I think for a lot of people, myself included, it felt like a breath of fresh air. People who grew up fans of Spider-Man have an idea in their head of who the character is, which is a funny, sarcastic, and often goofbally character but also someone with real world problems and emotional turmoil. The fun comedy aspect of Spidey was virtually absent from the Sam Raimi films in favor of a Spider-Man who only moped, whined, and was for the most part always serious. I think The Amazing Spider-Man had several things about it that could be considered flaws, but it's still my favorite Spider-Man movie because Spidey acted like Spidey. It's a bias viewpoint but many share it.

Also, really low expectations and you can't really judge what people's tastes would be based on what other people think about other nebulous movies.

I'm speaking more about the weak script, various plotholes, plot threads seemingly forgotten halfway through the film, a very poor villain, inconsistencies and what I think is the worst ending to a movie that I've seen this year... If I didn't watch The Devil Inside, cause that was the worst ending of the year.

When your leads are tremendously charming and have great chemistry, an average movie can be highly enjoyable. Such is the case with ASM. The plot didn't convince me to go see that movie, the scene in the trailer where Gwen and Peter are awkwardly standing in the hallway did. As soon as I'd watched it, I leaned over to my friend and said, "We're seeing that movie."

The deleted scenes pretty much fix Connors too, makes him sympathetic and gives him depth.

I honestly forgot I was watching Spider-Man the first 30 minutes in. Andrew just didn't seem like Peter at all to me. Emma was alright though.

So much was wrong with that movie, but she wasn't one of them.

The movie itself was just OK. I really wasn't amped to see another origin story for him after the last series just ended, but the main leads had great characterization and Emma Stone in particular was fantastic. The only bad character in it was Connors once he became the Lizard.

Hated her. After the third "branzino" reference I was rooting for the Lizard to eat her face off.
