This comparison all depends on what way you want to look at it. Original Nexus has all but one guy on the roster all these years later. So for introducing developmental talent to tv, and filling up the roster, Nexus was more successful than they probably ever imagined. You can't judge the Shield on that yet.
For impact? Nexus by a mile. Destroying the ring and Cena on debut beats anything Shield has done so far. The Nexus logo and theme is still a symbol of defiance to some, while Shield has pointless tactical vests with no music.

For those that brought up a possible Nexus/Shield feud, I was listening to some theme music on my ride home the other night and just had one scenario that I thought I'd mark out hard for. It would only work if they don't plan on having Ryback in the title scene come Mania time.
Have Team Hell No drop the tag titles and Daniel Bryan and Kane go their separate ways. Maybe add one more member to the Shield along the way from NXT...or even Punk but he'll probably be doing something more important at Mania. Maybe have a throwaway match on Raw with Bryan and Ryback vs Wade Barrett and David Otunga. Shield attacks Bryan and Ryback since they seem to have it out for those two anyways. Barrett tries to shake their hands for helping them out, but Shield turns and attacks him and Otunga as well leaving them all laying.
Cue a Shield beatdown on someone else a week or two later and all four men rush the ring and start beating the hell out of the Shield, throwing them all out of the ring except for one. They circle the last member before they all pull out arm bands and put them on and kick his ass good. It can be a one night thing at Mania since all four guys have their own things going on, but it'd be fun for a short term deal.

Now I'm curious how the comparisons are now, since we've now had The Shield debut in impressive fashion, also getting themselves a unique entrance and theme in the process.

I like both of their theme music, but I think they're two completely different animals...at the moment. They're both got a pack mentality, but while Nexus was pretty much Wade Barrett/CM Punk and their lackeys and Shield has got an all for one mentality, at least Nexus had individual personalities. That's yet to show through yet for the Shield.

One thing that kind of jumped out at me is this. Didn't Wade Barrett ask a favor of Paul Heyman if he were join Team Punk before Punk was pulled for a main event? (If this storyline was resolved on Raw and I missed it, let me know.) What if Wade asked for a new faction of NXT stars...a more streamlined Nexus and he's secretly pulling the strings until the time is right? Who have they attacked so far? John Cena: Nexus enemy number one Randy Orton: Another major Nexus and New Nexus enemy. Helped plant the seeds of the Nexus' demise with his win over Barrett at Survivor Series. Ryback: Former Nexus member. Daniel Bryan: Former Nexus member AND enemy of Barrett. Kane: Associated with Bryan. The Miz: NXT Pro and the man that stole Barrett's thunder when he cashed in the MitB briefcase to steal the WWE Title. Now, they've been hinting that CM Punk and Paul Heyman are pulling the strings behind the Shield...and Heyman may be helping...but what if Punk is just a smokescreen? He's another Barrett enemy considering he hijacked Nexus from his grasp. What if Barrett is making them look like Punk is in charge...just to add him to the beatdown list when the time is right. This is awesome and makes sense so sadly, the WWE won't do this. Shield will be the boot boys of Punk or, will have some ulterior motive that is hinted at but never comes to any conclusion.

I'm seriously hoping Punk and Heyman are revealed as the leaders of the group. This to setup The Shield (Punk, Ambrose,Rollins & Reigns) V. Nexus (Cena,Ryback, Daniel Bryan & Wade Barrett-as a face)
