He's been going pretty much non-stop for 13 years (and that's just his pro-wrestling career), and aside from the ocassional injury break he's never taken time off. Not only that, but he hasn't even slowed down his wrestling style. He still wrestles the same style, he still gives it 110%, he still takes the ocassional high flying bump. I don't think there's anyone in wrestling that's gone for so long without putting on the brakes. It's a miracle he's still alive, letalone still wrestling.
So how is he doing it?

I think it's a combination of him being crazy and not nearly in as bad of shape as people on the Interwebz would have you believe.

There's very little doubt that Kurt Angle is the finest amateur wrestler and best all-around athlete ever to work in professional wrestling. God gave Kurt perhaps the most perfect body for wrestling ever seen on this earth.
Add that to his incredible will and desire, and you have a guy that probably can and will perform at the highest levels of the business longer than anyone ever.

Moving to TNA was probably one of the best things that happened to his body. He's still able to go at the pace he was in the WWF all those years ago, but now without the brutal schedule.
Now, his mind may be a different story...

Now, his mind may be a different story... See, I don't know that going to TNA was safer for him. Sure he wrestles less dates, but it wasn't long after his WWE depature that they adopted a much safer style and I honestly think Vince would have eventually put his foot down and made Kurt slow down, where-as TNA just tell him to keep going.

Most guys who've worked for Vince say that it's the constant traveling that leads to the drug use. In TNA he isn't traveling nearly as much

Well he didn't start pro wrestling until he was 29/30, but of course it's not like he worked an office job all his life before that.

He's a f***ing machine.
You probably think I'm joking but that's honestly the only reason that I have for it.

He's a f***ing machine. His body has survived the wear and tear of the biz over time. His mind is a different story.

I doubt Vince would have made Kurt slow down. If there was money to be made from Kurt being on the road, then that's where Vince would want him to be.

My best guess, a combination of pure determination, a personal pharmacy full of painkillers and duct tape.

Same has Vince has made Cena take time off, yep. Cena doesn't seem anyway near Angle levels of broken down. I don't know, Cena is starting to show signs of wear. He had to sit out Hell in a Cell this year, and he's worked hurt quite a bit the last few years. He's hasn't had anything like a broken neck which Kurt has had to deal with, but it's not like Cena's invincible. Getting back to Kurt, I believe Kurt Angle is the finest all around wrestler of this generation. He's possibly the best wrestler from a technical standpoint and has the ability to tell a story in the ring, he can go on the mic, and usually has no problem putting other guys over. I loved his WWE work, and he's been incredible in TNA.

There's no question he's a great athlete and he has an insane dedication to his profession. I would think he has some, um, synthetic help though too.

I would say part is the reduced schedule in TNA. The killer calendar in WWE magnifies existing injury and wears on the joints a bit more than doing one day of tv a week with a ppv match a month. The older you get the longer it takes to recover. If you are in wwe you might wrestle 5 times a week. Add the gym time(joint stress beyond what your body was designed for), somebody mentioned pain killers in jest. Look I know nothing truly spiteful was meant, but guys if he is on painkillers it is because he broke his body and will be crippled one day to entertain us and make us glad we watched or bought a ticket. So I at least won't grudge him a bit if he needs to medicate so he can walk pain free. Abuse is a byproduct of this. I love his work but for the sake of his life after wrestling, I hope he retires soon.
