It seems that, since at least August, the WWE decided they wanted a Rock/Punk match. Ever since Rock made the announcement at Raw 1000 that he will be challenging for the WWE title. Looking back at every PPV match Punk has had since then, none of them have really mattered because they've all just been filler until Punk has the biggest match of his career.
It makes you wonder how things would have gone if Rock wasn't planning on having any more matches. I think he would have lost to Cena at Night of Champions, personally. And if he survived that, he definitely would have fed Ryback.

If Rock doesn't challenge him at the Rumble, I don't see him turning heel so I don't know that they would have had him face Ryback. Really if he made it past Cena at NoC, he probably would have been facing Big Show or Del Rio. Really without Rock causing the Punk turn, there is no need to turn Miz, Del Rio or strap the rocket to Ryback. Hell, Sheamus might still have the WHC.

Yeah, if Rock hadn't announced that he was challenging for the WWE championship at the Royal Rumble, there would have been no reason for Punk to turn heel.

I'll be thankful when Punk pins Rock on his way to Mania as champion.

I think Punks reign is more to do with business being down, Kevin Nash was given a similar reign at a similar low point, it's stability and consistency whilst new stars are being built up, Cena seems to be being used to help the creation of the new talent which is why the title isn't on him for the year as if it was he wouldn't be able to be putting people over as much as he currently is.
I reckon theres more chance of Ryback winning the title than The Rock eventually

Hopefully that means a face turn for Punk after WWE gets done reminding everyone how the Attitude Era stars are still better than everythign they've done since.

Well hey it worked in the Attitude Era. In 97 and 98 they just would not shut up about how awesome Rock N' Wrestling was and how these Attitude people are good but they can't hold a candle to the glory years. Hogan vs. Piper at Mania 14 was an amazing Mania main event, and Austin got his little title win so it was all good.

Yep, this 400+ day reign, all for a movie star.

After Heyman turns on Punk: "The only reason you were WWE champion for a year is because Rock didn't wanna work Monday's until 'Mania season."

Yep, this 400+ day reign, all for a movie star. At the end of the day Punk had the reign so its still for CM Punk too. Not just for the "movie star, who also happens to be one of the all time greats" Way to throw Punk under the bus.

And they could use the reign to put over someone huge that could use the push that they finally ended CM Punk's 400+ day reign as WWE Champion. Nope, it'll be a guy who doesn't need it.

Still don't see why so many people think Rock's gonna win at the Rumble.

While what you are saying makes perfect business sense, it wouldn't entertain me nearly as much as Rock winning so...I'd be really happy if Rock won.

More like Rock is to blame for Punk's reign.

Still don't see why so many people think Rock's gonna win at the Rumble. I'll be surprised if Punk walks out with the strap. It's almost a given that Rock is about to become an 8-time WWE champion. Yes I repeat...8-time for anyone who wants to refer to him as a movie star and nothing else.

Still don't see why so many people think Rock's gonna win at the Rumble. A lot of people seem to think it'll lead to Rock vs Cena again at WM so Cena can get a win back AND win the title (AND cause parts of the internet to explode.)

^I just don't see that. I don't know, it only seems 'right' for Punk's reign to end at Wrestlemania. It's too much of a foregone conclusion that Rock's gonna win at the Rumble, I just don't think it's happening. Especially since it's 2 months before Mania.

Still don't see why so many people think Rock's gonna win at the Rumble. I still think Rock beats Punk for the title and Cena then beats Rock to close out Mania to a chorus of boos. I will be legit shocked if that changes between now and Wrestlemania.

There was a dirtsheet(I know not always reliable) that mention that the rock is more or less promised a title run. Hence everybody picking Rock.

I will be legit shocked if that changes between now and Wrestlemania. Cena doesn't even seem concerned with the title now. He's busy with Big E Langston/Ziggler. I mean Cena/Rock headlining Mania again this year leaves guys like Punk and Ryback out of the loop and those guys have been built up almost the entire year.
