"8/9/97 PHILA,PA COMM TAPE…THIS WAS THE VERY LAST ECW SHOW BEFORE THE HARDCORE HEAVEN 97 PPV.FEATURED IS ONE OF THE MOST BRUTAL, VIOLENT & BLOODY BARBED WIRE MATCHES OF ALL TIME AS SABU TOOK ON TERRY FUNK & CAPTURED THE ECW WORLD TITLE."
In my Opinion, this the best ECW match of all time. What are your thoughts on this match? Or just you're favorite ECW match in general.

The Born To Be Wired event is honoured annually by the Deja Vu event. You'd probably love the no-rope barbed wire deathmatch that Zandig and Lobo had. Anyway, I think the Sabu vs Funk match is far from the best ECW match (I award that distinction to Jerry Lynn vs RVD from Hardcore Heaven '99).

This was ECW's Mankind/Taker Hell in a Cell. Memorable and brutal spectacle, not a great match.

Was this the match where one of the guys was so destroyed he went and pulled the other guy on top of him to end the match?

It's great, but I'd prefer Born to be Wired. I watched it at a young age, you know how that is, watching it over and over.

I don't think so, but I know that at the end of the match, Sabu had to give around 5 Minutes to let people get the Wire off of him. Terry went threw so much Pain, yet so did Sabu. I'm not to Certain if we're distressing the same match tho.

By the time it ended, they were basically wrapped together in the wire to the point of not being able to move without being hurt and some of it was dangerously close to Funk's eyes. Haven't seen it in years, but I think Sabu did just push Funk down and pin him to end it.

I mostly remember Sabu going for one of his chair dives onto Funk in the corner but Funk moved and Sabu ripped himself up something fierce on the wire. That and them getting wired together and having to be cut out at the end of the match.
I don't think that it was the best match to happen in ECW though, that probably goes to something involving Eddie, Malenko, Benoit, or Rey.

Incredibly overrated match.
Yes one of the most violent matches ECW did but nowhere near the best.

I always like to compare this match to the Funk Brother-Public Enemy Barbed Wire Match ECW had 3 years earlier to show how much the promotion had changed. In the Funks-TPE match, all four guys started off the match wearing sweaters. The whole match was about watching their protective clothing slowly get torn away by the barbed wire until finally their skin was exposed. There was about psychology and story telling and building up to a big moment.
In Born to be Wired they walk into the match in their regular wrestling clothes and are taking bare chested dives into the wire a minute in. It was a gore fest with no real story to it.

Never saw the match, so I can't make any sort of comment about it.
As far as my favorites from ECW, I enjoyed: -The four-way match at Heat Wave '96 for the ECW TV title. Shane Douglas, Pitbull #2, Chris Jericho & 2 Cold Scorpio. -Scorpio vs. Sabu @ Cyberslam '96. -Dean Malenko vs. Eddie Guerrero @ Hostile City Showdown 1995. This was one of Eddie's first ECW matches, and some fans were actually chanting "Bor-Ing!" A couple of minutes later, a slow build to a chant reached a crescendo to where practically the whole arena was yelling "SHUT THE F UP! SHUT THE F UP!" followed by "THROW HIS ASS OUT! THROW HIS ASS OUT!" Great match, went the time-limit, which many did not expect, and both men got a standing ovation.

Didn't see much of the ones you just said but it seems Sabu really does like to show up in some of the top Matches.

It barely qualified as wrestling in my book. I'm not against hardcore, but I just didn't think there was much to the match other than the dives into barbwire.

I preferred the Sabu vs Abyss Barbed Wire Massacre in TNA. I think Raven and Sandman had a good Barbedwire match in ECW too.
