With this most awesomest Christmas gift, I've now joined the current generation (besides owning the Wii for 5 years). It's a 250GB with built-in wi-fi and one free month of Live Gold. It came with Forza Motorsport 4 and a downloadable copy of Skyrim, but I was also bought WWE '13, Super Street Fighter 4, and Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe. I'll most likely set it up tonight and pop in WWE '13 first.
I wonder if there's anything I need to know before I set it up, maybe some tips on how to prevent RROD, or even if that's a really big problem anymore. Final note, my TV is a mere standard definition set, so maybe the left/right edges of the screen might be cut off, or so I've read.

Don't quote me on this but I think the RROD isn't much of a problem on the newer models which you seem to have(You said it was Wi Fi...)
Either way, you lucky bastard...

Eventually, you're gonna wanna upgrade to an HD TV. Most games in this generation are set up assuming you have an HD TV, making some text unreadable. It's manageable, but when I got my PS3 I only had Standard TVs. I played God Of War 3 and got to the Helios fight, I ended up dying over and over again because I couldn't read the text, took me going online to see I was supposed to use the right stick to block the sun's rays with my hand.
Like I say, it's not a dealbreaker to play it on Standard, and anything you'll be unable to read can be easily found online... but it does make it much easier to play everything on an HD TV. Plus, you really notice the difference between this gen and last gen in HD, otherwise... it just looks like last gen, just a little smoother.

I tried Skyrim on a standard tv once. You need god-like squinting abilities to read any of the text.

Hey, I got the same combo of 250 gb Xbox, Forza and download code for Skyrim for 180€. I have a new led HDTV, so that shouldn't be a problem.
So, nice. Internet high-five?

I bought myself one of those this past weekend. I got the last one Target had in stock. I used to have a 360 Elite but I got the RROD so I had to purchase a new one. So yes, high fives all around!

Couple of questions:
1. Do I have to fill out any kind of form to insure my console, in case of red ring and such? (For the record, the box said it comes with a 1-year warranty)
2. Is there a way to transfer saves to the console? I ask for unlocking purposes only.

Your warranty should cover from the date of purchase, ownership 3 years on the white 360. Microsoft extended the date because of all the RROD callbacks on them. no paper work just don't get it wet or drop it that's not covered.
I don't understand the save question. You can transfer saves via USB memory card transfer cable. but you must have the profile associated whit the saves.
If you looking for games gamefly has great deals qn always check cheapass gamers.
I agree when possible get an HD tv an connect via HDMI it makes a world of difference.

It's a black, more recent console, which I'm told has less of a chance of red ring, so maybe it's not a 3 year warranty, just 1. For the save question, I was talking about getting a save from somebody on the internet, and put it on my console, like the DexDrive from PSX, the Action Replay & CodeBreaker & GameShark from the PS2 era, or simply using an SD Card for the Wii. But since you mentioned the profile association thing, it doesn't sound like it's that simple for Xbox 360. Oh, and I already got GameFly.

Yes you can ,you can use Modio of gametuts or Horizon of Xboxmb. I'm a retired mod on gametuts an a founder for Xboxmb. First place a copy of your save on a USB an open one of those tool. Its simple just override your profile id an console I'd on the downloaded save. Then insert the downloaded save over your save on the USB Then your done place USB on console an load from the USB when the option of storage location shows. If you need help pm or post its a side hobby glad to help. Use Horizon is beginner friendly.

Meh, A PS3 with a PS+ is a better overall deal for someone finally getting an HD system, but still 360 is a good enough system. Just don't expect many exclusives that aren't XBLA or Kinect games. I think 2008 was the last time the 360 had more than 3 non-XBLA or Kinect exclusives released. That being said the system does get preferential treatment with the majority of third party multiplatform games, and overall games look and run better(only slightly, usually) than on the PS3. So enjoy your system, mate. I have nothing against the PS3 in general, but I do honestly wonder the fact I'm so used to the 360 controller and struggle so much with the PS3 controller (the rare times I play one at someone else's house) is why I may never get one. Wonder if that's a dumb reason though as it would seem like one could get used to it, but for someone who has both is it easy to do, or does one always feel better/more useable than the other?

Not dumb at all, I consider the 360 controller perfect I used it for console games ,PC games, emulators an any game that allows it.

I tried Skyrim on a standard tv once. You need god-like squinting abilities to read any of the text. I tried to do it on Assassin's Creed III I din't work, I had to move my character to darken the Back round so I could read the text.

It is pretty easy. And if it is that bad they have controllers set up just like a 360 pad for ps3. Or do like I did and get extended triggers and a topper for the right joystick and then I prefer it a great deal of the 360 pad as the triggers are wider and the stick is a bit taller.

As well as the text being hard to read I find many games on this generation are too dark (and that's on a HDTV) so before you start playing a game go into the settings and put the brightness right up.

Fortunately as you seem to have WWE 13, Mortal Kombat vs DC and Super Street Fighter 4 (going by the chirstmas haul section) I don't think you will have to worry too much about reading text. Is that the AE edition of Streetfighter 4? Or just the normal one? (Did you get Yun and Yang basically)
