To be fair they did have Kharma all set up to demolish the boths of them until, yknow, stuff happened. That's nobody's fault. In ring, Laycool were always being taken apart left and right, managing to hang on due to some nonsense or other. They didn't have Kharma demolish Laycool because creative wanted to do something else. If they wanted Kharma vs. Laycool, they could have debuted her sooner and done it. But they still did that. They had Kharma beat up Michelle after Extreme Rules, and you have to imagine she would have done the same to Layla eventually. This doesn't absolve the criticisms, though I would stand by the Laycool segments as being among the most entertaining and creative things produced by WWE in recent memory.

I know they had her beat up Michelle. I'm just saying that the only thing that stopped a feud from happening was WWE waiting to debut Kharma. If they wanted, they could have debuted Kharma sooner and had her retire Michelle in a match, but no one pitched that idea (or it was pitched and rejected).

The diva concept has run its course now IMO. It worked well during the Attitude Era, but it doesn't fit in today's WWE.

Watching NXT has given me hope for the division, there are some great divas on that show (Paige being the stand-out) and even the women from the main roster look better on NXT.
Of course once they're on the main roster there's a good chance they'll get lost in the shuffle and end up in meaningless two minute matches.

You can trace the death/current state of the divas division back to the date Michelle McCool won her first title and began her push as the top diva.
Even after Trish and Lita left, the likes of Mickie and Melina and to a lesser extent Beth (during her Glamarella phase) were over enough to where they could carry the division and be relied upon to go out there and have matches without the live crowd being completely dead for them. That all changed when Michelle came into the picture. She probably wrestled on almost every PPV from 2009 until her departure and you'll be lucky to find one or two of her matches that fans gave a shit about.

I think the Diva's division died when Eve won her second title. It's a perfect example of the WWE completely giving up any sort of actual thought about a logical way to book the division.

Yeah I agree with this, the last time I even enjoyed a single diva was when Natalya was champion. I remember that being a particularly good reign and she was actually built up to LayCool's level. Damn, they even had a Diva's Tables match, and it was pretty damn good!

........to be fair, I believe this is regards to the *division* dying out. Yes? No, they all have lupus. Don't be so silly. It's never lupus.

Kharma and Beth Phoenix leaving hurt the division. People only pay attention to a Women's feud when there's some type of physical force that has the power of a man. Eve isn't a convincing heel as a wrestler, she is made to be a valet and Kaitlyn, Layla, etc don't have much in the way of character.

I honestly think it died when they fired Mickie and Maria, even though both were still popular.
On the other hand, I think this is a curse dating back to the Wendi Richter screwjob (yes, that far back). It seems like whenever something good happens, something really bad happens sooner or later. Madusa leaves and throws the women's belt in the trash. Sable quit at the height of her popularity. Chyna's downward spiral. Lita's injuries (moreso the 2005 injury, imo) and relationship with Edge (even if it did help Edge). Whatever happened with Kharma. And that's off the top of my head.

It's not because the audience hasn't been given a reason to care, it's because they don't care.
They just don't care about the divas anymore. They realize that they aren't as good as the men and see them as a waste of time because of it. The only one that really matters is AJ and that's because she's been able to be just as, if not more entertaining than a lot of the guys.
I still say we need to see what happens when AJ gets the title and go from there.

WWE needs to decide what kind of women they want on the roster. "DIVAS" I think should cover valets and other non-wrestling females. They would be few in number and distinct from female "SUPERSTARS" who would focus on serious wrestling.

Pardon me if this is actually completely untruthful, but could sexism, in general, be the reason?
As I think one of the above posts mentions, people are just not into women's sports. While this I don't know for sure, it wouldn't surprise me considering that I never hear about or read about women's sports in the news, or general discussions like online forums. Also, it seems every single YouTube video of a woman doing 'something men do', the top comments are always some stupid sexist jokes about kitchens. The impression I get is not that people believe women are inferior, but that there's a 'sports are just for men' mentality going around.
On another maybe somewhat related note, if there's a way to 'save' the division (as in get people to care), perhaps sexualizing the divas is the way to go. It seems most of the divas that were over according to general consensus mainly got over on their sex appeal.
Just to be clear, that's not a suggestion. I, for one, don't see as a problem with what the WWE is doing, but the crowd's inherent dislike for women's wrestling. In fact, I don't see how the divas division is any worse compared to the midcard IC and US belts.
