And for all the "oh, it's just a TV character", NOTHING would be lost if he used a better line of insults. I sincerely doubt that WWE said "Now, we'd really like it if you could use some homophobic insults and attract the attention of GLAAD here." He chose those words. He chose that attitude. Not a TV character. Him. Dwayne Johnson. I don't have to justify my hate. The reasons are plain, even if I don't expect you to understand them. But until he apologises or quits using it as part of his shtick, f*** the Rock and f*** anyone who tries to justify his stupidity. If you're just now realizing that professional wrestling is a business that caters to the lowest common denominator in society, then I don't know what to tell you. In its best of times, wrestling has seen xenophobia, sexism, racism, and homophobia. No one cares about standards as long as there's money to be made. And WWE sees The Rock as money. Successful professional wrestler from a boom period in the past, known as a legend and one of the all-time greats today, and a successful movie star who can be entertaining and highly charismatic. You really think they give a f*** what GLAAD thinks as long as Rock can get people to pay for him? No one asked you not to hate him. Hate him all you want. Just realize that he does what he does because it works, not because he has anything against gays (that we know of). No justification is needed on either side. If I'm Vince, then I'd rather Rock go out and do gay jokes and continue to make me money than reform his entire shtick for an audience that doesn't want it from him, just because some people are offended. Part of being a great wrestler is knowing what the audience wants (or if you're a heel, does not want) so that you can give it to them.

CM Punk, of course, is above homophobic insults. But Punk is the wrestling messiah don't you know? He can do no wrong. When did Rock ever sock a member of the audience on an internationally broadcasted show?

CM Punk, of course, is above homophobic insults. See my first post regarding the homophobic stuff, where I pointed out that Punk accepted that what he did was wrong, apologised to everyone, and pointed out to those idiots saying "No, no, it's fine, you say stuff like that, it's awesome!" that they were categorically wrong.

Given the way he handled it, going beyond what would be necessary? I do. Maybe I'm crazy, but I wouldn't doubt it.

Something else I forgot, Rock is super close with Pat Patterson and hes a known homosexual. In addition to that quote I had earlier. there is just no way the guy has anything against gays and that what he says in the fictional WWE world reflects how it really feels..

Do I have everybody's attention now? IT DOESNT MATTER WHOSE ATTENTION YOU HAVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll support whichever option doesn't end up with the belt going back to Cena.

If all you got from Rock in regards to the Cena feud was Fruity Pebbles then I feel for you. Rock wasn't at his best last time around but he had moments where he was serious and wasn't going overboard on the jokes. Like the last promo before the match where he and Cena had the back and forth in what was arguably the best back and forth promo between the two. And def the best current Rock promo in terms of seriousness and substance. Also, I can understand no one liking Rock's usual schtick but he has had his share of promos that didn't involve juvenile insults, that didn't involve a ton of shouting, and had good substance. Such as his promo before facing Austin at Manina XIX. He could change it up and do things differently when the time came. Just that he didn't do it week after week and thus people got lost into what he usually did. You either loved it or you hate it but the guy is far from someone who sucks. Some of the all time greats on the stick would tend to agree with this as well. I can't remember the Rock/Cena promo you mean but to be honest, by that point I was bored with the whole feud and might not have been paying attention. I can't remember any Rock promo that compares to some of Austin's greats or Foley's promo. Even Austin's less memorable promos all have more substance, more emotion and more meaning than Rock's catchphrase spewing fests. Honestly, I can't recall a single, memorable Rock promo that had any substance to them. It's just crappy insults and throwing catchphrases. Hell, Miz's promo that started in the locker room where he talked all the way through the arena and to the ring was much better than anything The Rock has ever come up with. He had more substance, emotion, passion and meaning in that 5 minute promo than anything The Rock has come out with. I still maintain he isn't a great promo guy. The audience listens, but is that out of interest in the Rock, or because of past nostalgia because they're pleased to see their childhood favourite again?

Saying this as a fan, but The Rock ISN'T a great promo guy at all. He just has a godlike charisma to make up for it.
