I'm so glad this garbage is gone. They were the original (well maybe not the original) hipsters who hate music for no reason I attribute that more to Pitchfork Media than anything. SPIN could be really positive and also featured a lot of mainstream bands.

Spin would also feature obscure artists and movements that hipsters wouldn't know where to begin giving the time of day to.
Even if you disagreed with a review or two, I don't see how one less publication devoted to music could in any way be a good thing.
What was everyone's first issue? Mine was the November/December 1998 one with Busta Rhymes on the cover.

Damn, it sucks that all of my favorite magazines are going under. The only one left is the re-launched EGM, and it likely has one foot in the grave (again) and the other's on a banana peel.
Reading stuff online is okay sometimes, but I prefer print magazines by a landslide.

I have 2 issues one on the history of punk which was amazingly done with a great Johnny Rotten interview and one with Hayley from Paramore on the cover,The magazine was hit or miss for me but it was good over all.

Axl Rose is somewhere laughing That's the first thing that came to mind. There was no need for Axl to get in the ring with the magazine's publisher. Anyway, I bought a few issues of Spin circa 2000-2001. The magazine had some fairly well-written articles on bands I liked, but as music became suckier and suckier into the 2000s, I stopped reading magazines which catered to the newest sounds. So why is Spin no longer being published?

Pretty funny article
So Spin magazine is going out of print. You're sad, I know, but hey, your subscription isn't up yet, maybe you'll get a nice refund to make up for the loss of music news.
Nope! You're getting Car and Driver instead. Shitting will never be the same.
Spin Magazine Subscribers To Get Issues Of Car And Driver To Not Read In The BathroomSure, Spin covers music and Car and Driver covers cars and, to a lesser extent, drivers, but they have a TON of similarities.
Spin has covered Lady Gaga. Car and Driver has covered the Lady Gaga of the car world, Bob Lutz. Spin has album reviews. Car and Driver has car reviews. Spin has witty commentary. Car and Driver has a small cartoon in the back of each issue. Spin has ads for the hip young set. Car and Driver has ads for male enhancement and American Spirit Cigarettes.
So have no fear Spin subscribers and bring that new issue of Car and Driver with you to the can. If anything, Spin readers won't be in as much of an emergency situation when they run out of toilet paper anymore.
Maybe a magazine like Esquire would have made more sense. But if Car and Driver goes out of print, then what will subscribers get? Our bet is on Seventeen.

The problem with these magazines going under is that unlike movies and music, there's no real archive of past issues (google books DOES have almost every issue, but i digress). I mean, if PWI went under, the only way to get older issues is via ebay, while with music, you can pretty much get full discographies of (most) bands even without physical distribution.

This is true. I really hope copyright laws become more lax for print arts journalism, allowing for private collectors to make their collections public.
