The NBC version of Tribute to the Troops on 12/22 did 1.31 million viewers, which is a beyond terrible number for network prime time and would likely be among the lowest rated NBC shows of the entire year. It was by far the lowest rated major network show of the night, doing roughly a 0.8 rating and down 37% from last year and it was the lowest rating in at least several weeks among the big four networks. NBC did 2.97 million viewers the prior week in the time slot with a rerun of Chicago Fire.
But the show is not about ratings, has never done well in that regard (though never this bad), and it’s been around for a decade and will be around likely for years to come. NBC is under contract to air two annual WWE specials so they do this every Christmas and the WrestleMania special in August. The NBC version of the show was barely promoted so that’s part of the reason for the decline. Plus, the entire nature of wrestling has become soap opera as opposed to wrestling and people know this show isn’t part of the soap opera and that nothing important storyline will take place. The idea of WWE being on NBC means less than nothing these days, which tells you as much of anything about the promotional synergy between the two and the value of NBC, since WWE on NBC was a key factor in them winning the original war. Last year’s version did 2.08 million viewers and the 2011 version did 2.34 million.
The Smackdown edited replay of the show that aired on USA on 12/18, on Syfy in the normal time slot on 12/21, did 1.85 million viewers.

A note on the 12/12 Main Event show. As noted last week, moved out of its time slot, the show at 6:30 p.m., due to the 12/12 concert, did a 0.4 rating and 600,000 viewers. It also aired in a replay showing scheduled at midnight, but actually at 12:30 a.m. This was when Ion got all that heat because in a mind-boggling decision, they cut away from the concert, which had gone 30 minutes long already, just as Paul McCartney was getting on stage. All night during the concert, they kept plugging McCartney as the main attraction who would go on last. Main Event’s replay coming off McCartney coming on stage did a 0.2 rating and 300,000 viewers (so 0.6 and 900,000 combined) from 12:30 a.m. to 1:30 a.m., which may have been one of the all-time records for most viewers tuning out a show within seconds, trying to find what they had been watching on another channel.

One of the issues with Orton’s shoulder dislocations, which have come once when he was just punching the mat to tease setting up his RKO, and most recently from throwing a punch, is that he’s got hypermobile shoulders. It’s a condition that allows his shoulders to stretch back much farther than the average person, but the flip side is that he’s more prone to injuries, in particular shoulder dislocations and in the long run his shoulder joints can wear out much faster than a normal person and when he’s older he’s a much stronger candidate for osteoarthritis.
A correction on the WWE Network story from last week. They are not looking at getting partners right now.
Regarding the THQ bankruptcy, WWE is claiming it is owed $45 million. That number is what the company would be own based on the length and terms of the contract and guarantees. They are not owed $45 million in back royalties at this point, although they are owed millions in back royalties for the current WWE 13 game. They also owe Yukes, the company that made the game, $17.8 million. Exactly what happens from here is unknown. It depends on a lot of factors. If WWE isn’t paid, they could declare it a breach of contract. It is known that Ubisoft is interested in purchasing THQ and does want to continue with the annual WWE game, but then they would have to work out something regarding at least the back royalties owed.

Sin Cara underwent arthroscopic knee surgery on 12/20. He will be back relatively soon.
