So i bought 2 DVD sets featuring that feud a while ago, and got around to watching them this weekend. Fascinating stuff in there with so many great matches.
I know very little about puro, but the feeling i get was that Tsuruta was the old school man who acted as the heel who was defending his spot and Misawa was the young wrestler trying to reach the next level or something.
Misawa teamed often with Kobashi, Kawada, Kikuchi and at one point, Taue. Looks like Taue broke away at some point and aligned himself with Jumbo and Masanobu Fuchi.
Looks like Taue turned on Kawada at some point, but it's not shown. I think i get the gist of it, but i feel like i'm missing something about the whole picture.

Yes, Tsuruta was the ace of the company at that time, and the young buck Misawa wanted to unseat him and become the ace of the new generation. As far as Taue, I know he held the tag straps with Tsuruta for a while and had a rivalry with Kawada. He then ended his feud with Kawada with a handshake in the ring and the two of them formed the great 'Holy Demon Army' team.

I believe that at first, when it was new vs old that Taue was on the side of the older generation, but when it became Misawa vs Jumbo, Taue joined Jumbo's side out of loyalty. I think it also had something to do with the defections from All Japan at the time plus the fact that Baba couldn't do main events anymore thus creating a numbers inbalance, but I could be wrong.
