You know, if I had to tap out to MMA Jarrett's ankle lock, I would've given up long ago.

It's kind of bad that I forgot how (comparatively) skinny he used to be. If I was more motivated, I'd get more pics and make a sort of weight progression of Joe from ROH to the present. It'd be like William Shatner or Marlon Brando.

Joe isn't fat. Chubby? Yes. Fat? No.
I'd like to see the physiques of some of these people who are making fun of him for being "fat" though.

But I'm also not being paid money to entertain people with my athletic skills and, to a lesser degree, acting ability like Joe is.

Wow, another Joe is fat thread. What a surprise. Gotta say, I've never understood why Joe gets so much stick for his weight. Yes, he's bigger than he used to be but that happens with age. He's still agile as heel and can still put on amazing matches when he's given the time to do so. He's in much better shape than I am and I'm pretty thin (6 foot 1, 11 stone). So it would be rather hypocritical of me to criticise him and not myself.

Here are me and the other charter members of the "Samoa Joe Is The Fattest Human Who Ever Lived Discussion Group" from our meeting last week. Satisfied? P.S. Joe is faaaaaaaat.

There was a time where Joe was the scariest MF in wrestling, IMO. Now I'm just scared if he shows up that he'll go from house to house drinking all the booze in the neighborhood.

It's kind of bad that I forgot how (comparatively) skinny he used to be. If I was more motivated, I'd get more pics and make a sort of weight progression of Joe from ROH to the present. It'd be like William Shatner or Marlon Brando. This was my original point, and from what I understand, apparently he has an injury, and TNA has f***ed around with him for so long, that it'd be hard to at least not get annoyed and not care anymore. I guess the issue with Joe's weight started awhile ago. I listened to a Review a Wai podcast, and they did Bound for Glory 2006, and Samoa Joe was in great shape. He was tanned, he was motivated, and this guy looked like a potential major draw. Then once I saw him starting to tape up his gut, then I was like, umm, what's going on here? I've also seen him in some matches where he really gasses out and looks like he's gonna die in the ring. I guess the thread started out originally as kind of a joke, and oh, more fat jokes. Like, Matt Hardy got a shit ton of them when he had the stomach problems, but he's gotten back into shape. But it seems with Joe, it could be injuries piling up as well, but lots of guys have injuries and maybe because he was never too skinny to begin with. But the problem has only been more recently with me, because I feel there's a difference between, hey look, that guy is fat, to hey, this guy isn't in good shape. Bam Bam Bigelow for instance was always a big guy, but later on, it got to be way too much of a problem and effected his work and that could also be due to age and other factors. Him and Punk are the same age, but Punk has generally kept the same body type since 2005. And I can kinda buy the whole, well, it was like a street fight, but most guys come out with just their gear, so I thought it was odd. I also hated it when Sting would wear a t-shirt over his wrestling gear in his matches, it just looked awful. Some guys can pull it off, Tommy Dreamer for instance. So, the thread isn't just a "Samoa Joe is fat" thread, though I guess I f***ed up with it. It is a "Samoa Joe is out of shape" thread, and there's a huge difference.

Haha nah that doesn't really matter but if people in poor physical shape are making fun of someone for being chubby it's kind of contradictory. Joe is paid to wrestle that's what he does. This isn't Bodybuilding.

Don't be so impressed, that looks like a title belt but in actuality it's a girdle.

And Joe is doing a top job at entertaining people with both his athletic and acting abilities. Him being a big guy isn't stopping him doing that so I honestly don't see why it's an issue. Not that I'm saying you personally have an issue, just making a general statement that if he is doing his job and doing it well, it doesn't matter one damn iota how "fat" or "slim" the guy is.

Dusty Rhodes was a lot fatter than Joe, and for his entire career. Didn't stop him from making a living, and it's not stopping Joe either.

See, here's where we disagree. With the exception of an occasional moment of brilliance here or there, the Joe I've seen over the last few years has looked sluggish and unmotivated, his ring work and even promo skills a pale shadow of his glory days. You could blame a lot of this on the way the company has treated him, but in the end, he's not doing his job, atleast not at the same level he used to. Me personally, I don't rag on him for his weight gain, I rag on him because his weight gain is kinda symptomatic of bigger problems with him. He doesn't need to look like Rick Rude in his prime, he just needs to look like he cares.
