I've been going to a social anxiety group, and one of the excersises they had us do was to record our own voice and listen back to it, since apparantly a lot of people with social anxiety hate their own voice. Anyway, I did it and it was pretty much the most horrific thing I've ever heard. To me, I sound nothing like that. The members at the group listened back to it and said I had a nice, soothing voice. Bullshit! I'm hoping if I keep listening back to it, I'll get used to it and it won't seem so bad. I was also hoping to do some recording on youtube, but now I don't wanna make anyones ears bleed.
Anyway, does anyone else hate their own voice?

Yes, I've always hated the sound of my voice in a recording -- it's like a cross between Tobey Maguire and Sam Kinision... It sounds totally different from what I actually hear when I'm talking.

I have a bit of a Southern accent, so hell yes, I loathe the sound of my voice. I always feel like it makes me sound like an idiot.

Kinda, have a slight lisp, sometimes I talk to fast, and it's kinda high pitched I get teased about and so I'm kinda insecure about I hate talking in front of large groups of people.

Yes, yes I do.
It's sounds too whiny and I think it might be nasally but I'm not sure.

Yes.
Two years ago, I hosted a show on SiriusXM's E Street Radio. The company sent me a CD recording and I still haven't listened to it. My friends and family did and said I did a good job, but that's hardly an unbiased opinion.
The only time I can remember being comfortable with my voice, oddly enough, was when I was asked to do a reading at a funeral. Maybe it was the acoustics, or the amplification from the microphone.

It varies. I'm cool with it most of the time, but I don't think I've ever liked hearing it played back on a recording.

I don't like mine either. At least how it sounds on my phone.

I love my voice, even though I have a lisp at times. But I think of it as a sexy lisp, and all is alright.
Now watching myself on video is not something I enjoy.

I don't mind it when I'm speaking, but I HATE HATE HATE it when played back. This, although I wouldn't say I HATE it when it's played back. More like I'm a little bugged by how awkward and how young I still sound. I'm 23 years old (24 in less than 2 weeks), yet I sound like I'm still 15 or something. So once in a while, I purposely try to deepen by voice when I speak just a little, and people who know me end up asking "Why are you talking that?". Hell, the one benefit of getting a cold is that my voice sounds BETTER, and the way it should be.

Considering I'm going to school to get a radio career, I can say that I like the sound of my voice. Not in the negative aspects of that term either.

I don't mind it, but when I hear it played back, I always sound way deeper than I think.
Like, for years, I've answered the house phone and had people think it was my dad, which I always found odd, as I never thought I sounded like him, but then I had a video with me in it played back and realised I sound quite a bit like him.
Then again, one of my friends told me I sound like a cross between a rapist and a British Batman when I snuck up behind him, not sure how to feel about that. I also apparently enunciate very well and speak with "Received pronunciation" according to my English Language tutor.

My voice is rather deep. I don't mind hearing myself speaking but sometimes when I hear myself on a recording, I think to my self "Do I really sound like that?" A few girls have said that I have a sexy voice. I remember going through puberty at around age 12 and my voice cracked here and there and then it got deeper.
I would not mind having a career in radio. I am a journalism major but I am mostly into writing. I know my voice is deep but when I heard my voice when I tried interviewing people for a story I was about to cover, I thought it made my voice sound deeper than I thought.

People that have done podcasts with me and know the work I've done elsewhere would hear me say that I don't like my voice at all and would probably think I'm insane.
They are free to think that I am insane.
