Has there been any main-event face since The Rock that they haven't tried to turn into a stand-up comedian at some point? I don't have a problem with faces smiling or being happy, but comedy is not & should not be for everybody.

Also, I think Batista was accidentally funny instead of purposely funny. I've tuned out Sheamus's promos at this point. Last I've heard, it sounded like FELLA ARSE 45 SECONDS 18 SECONDS AT WRESTLEMANIA BROGUE

You'd think they'd have learned their lesson when they absolutely killed Cena to the point of no return, sans a heel turn that will never happen.
They're well on their way to ruining Sheamus permanently. The crowds have been splitting on him lately, and you're seeing the same responses that Cena was starting to get around June/July. It doesn't help that he's working with Big Show, who is insanely more entertaining. Unfortunately, unlike Cena...I doubt Sheamus could handle the pressure of 70% of the crowd booing him the way Cena does.

Anytime he or the other faces pander to the audience it really falls flat. Mostly down to the fact the material is made for 4yr olds.

Sheamus needs a talk show segment where he stands in front of a brick wall and tells jokes.

You'd think they'd have learned their lesson when they absolutely killed Cena to the point of no return, sans a heel turn that will never happen. I sometimes wonder if the company is truly aware of what it actually is about Cena that makes so many people detest his character. They've never even tried to remove any of Cena's irritating traits. If anything, they've even dialed them up.

He also sticks to script way too much. You can tell Punk went off script a few months ago, during their Chicago promo.
Punk insults him, he ignores it, and continues telling a joke about him kicking arse in Ireland.
Even when the crowed is not buying his stuff, he doesn't stop! HE KEEPS TELLING JOKES!

If anything, they've even dialed them up. In a way, this would make for a great heel trait for both Cena and Sheamus. Not in the 'well, Cena and Sheamus are already heel to half the crowd' sort of way, but in the delusional, self-absorbed way that many of the great heels are. If they ever want to go full-blown turn with either guy, dialing up these unlikable traits I think is the way to go, as opposed to making them silent, no nonsense badasses.

Wait a few months when he comes out with a chef hat and a lobster bib and makes a 20 minute food pun that passes as a promo.

He needs to have like a drum machine lined up when he delivers his jokes 'bad-dum-tish'
That would be awesome.

I don't think they tried it that much with Benoit, other than his run against OJ. I think Benoit gave OJ quite the run for his money at the end. Murder jokes. Hah! Hire me, WWE!

He sucks hard as a comedic face, which makes him the "classic" current era WWE face.

No, they tried HARD to make him a Rock-lite around 2004/05.

Some faces work with the douchebag comedy face schtick. Cena actually has quite a few good moments. He pulls it off because he revels in being such a huge dork. For The Miz, it was actually an improvement. Miz is a naturally goofy looking guy and whoever came up with the idea that a guy who became famous by acting like a doofus on TV should be super serious should be shot. Edge & Christian, both as a tag team and as singles stars were their most entertaining when they were hamming it up. John Morrison was really good at deadpan delivery when he was calling Dolph "Mr. Ziggles" and making fun of Miz's transition to trunks. Hell, I think that if Dolph Ziggler turned face, he would probably be best suited as the "comedian" face.
It doesn't really work with Sheamus. I do like the "Irish stories", but he doesn't need to be joking around all the time.
