No, they tried HARD to make him a Rock-lite around 2004/05. Orton? He was Austin-lite, not Rock-lite. No seriously, go back and watch an old Orton promo from around then. They were forcing him into the Rock mold. He was nothing like Austin besides his choice of finisher.

Big Show has been entertaining lately after that dud heel turn on Raw. Is it because he's champion, and he just works better as a big dominate champion? Is it his off-the-cuff sarcasm? Is it him not stinking up Raw with whatever that was over the summer? Yes - it's all of those things. Big Show is back to tolerable, whereas Sheamus is still in that "I want to like this guy but dammit they're making it hard every time he cuts a promo" phase. Sheamus has had dozens of really top notch matches in his short career, but my God is he hard to like once he hams it up on the mic.

He sucks at giving long-winded, dragging on promos like they tried to give him on Raw. Likewise he sucks as a lame-joke spewing babyface. He works best as a goofy bully heel, with his mannerisms, his over-the-top facial expressions, his laugh etc. They're playing to Big Show's strengths so his current character is fun. Plus, Show is really good at playing to the crowd and going off script (like when his podium collapsed) which adds to his character.

I sometimes wonder if the company is truly aware of what it actually is about Cena that makes so many people detest his character. They've never even tried to remove any of Cena's irritating traits. If anything, they've even dialed them up. In a way, this would make for a great heel trait for both Cena and Sheamus. Not in the 'well, Cena and Sheamus are already heel to half the crowd' sort of way, but in the delusional, self-absorbed way that many of the great heels are. If they ever want to go full-blown turn with either guy, dialing up these unlikable traits I think is the way to go, as opposed to making them silent, no nonsense badasses. If they had REALLY wanted CM Punk to be the next mega-star, I think that could've made a ton of sense: Cena and Sheamus as the heel figureheads of whatever would stand in for what the Corporation was to Steve Austin. Anti-establishment Punk vs. mega-establishment, by the book WWE babyface Cena and Sheamus.

I love Sheamus's in ring work, but hate his current character with a passion.. Pretty much, and even then, I think I would like him a little more if they stopped having him feud with Big Show for a while. We have had 7000 matches and segments with them, it feels like.

That's how Smackdown has been for 3 years now.. Sheamus puts a hell of a match when he is brawling. I guess I just want him to be heel Sheamus where he just kicks ass, and takes names. Doesn't need to be a comedian. The writing is just awful. I feel they are grooming him to be the next big thing like Cena

FELLA I DRANK ALE AND FELLA SUNSCREEN FELLA I LOVE TO FIGHT FELLA YEAH Miss Carol wins by technical knockout. Her quote is what Sheamus spits into the mic everytime he gets it. He sets the table for Smackdown every week and he just kills the vibe.

My favorite part is the little chuckle he does before the bad stand-up, like 'I know it sucks, but here goes'.
~chuckle~ "Well, fella...~bad joke~"

I feel they are grooming him to be the next big thing like Cena They actually started him off well, with his "I'll fight ya!" turn on Mark Henry. Sheamus would actually work well as the Austin to Cena's Rock. He might get a good line or two in during a promo, but the gist of his character is just wants to kick somebody's ass, not goofily entertain all these fine people and then maybe kick some ass if there's time left over.

If this feud was meant for me to like The Big Show again, mission accomplished. Between the reactions of Booker T 'playing games with the World Title' on Smackdown and his funny promos punking Sheamus out for being a redheaded Irish immigrant Paul Wight has finally found a place on my Fave Five.
He hasn't been there since The Union!
