I haven't really got into the latest wrestling games over the last few years....i could never quite put my finger on it but when id play matches they just didn't seem as fun as they used to.
The other day me and my friends dug out an old smackdown for the ps2 and No Mercy for the N64 and the atmosphere in those games felt so much more fun...it made me realise how important the music was when matches were happening.
I know it's not realistic and it wouldn't work in real sports games but in fighting games music plays a big part in the atmosphere....the awful commentary doesn't sound nearly as bad when theres a cool tune in the background.
Anyone else miss music playing during wrestling games?
There was a certain charm to the MIDI N64 music. It's probably just nostalgia, though.
Remember on the 16-bit games like Royal Rumble and Raw, there was no soundtrack at all, just the grunts and groans for everyone (apparently recorded by ref Mike Chioda and announcer Tony Chimmel), and the crowd noise.
