I have lots of stuff to check out thanks to this thread. Nice. 'nother recommendation: Black Breath - Sentenced to Life If you dig early Entombed, you should dig the guitar sound on this album. Very good stuff. Caught me by surprise.

Have your heard Gojira's "L'enfant Sauvage" and/or Meshuggah's "Koloss" yet?

Good thread, will need to listen to some of the ones I haven't heard.
My album of the year, hands down, is "Fire From The Sky" by Shadows Fall. One of my favourite bands anyway, and their strongest album in 10 years is a hell of a way to keep me interested. Gojira's "L'Enfant Sauvage" is runner up.

The Levitation Hex - The Levitation Hex Wicked and weird debut from this Aussie group. They play a Groovy-Proggy-Avante-Garde style Sample: Dream Deficit:

In Mourning - The Weight of Oceans Here is another fine melodeath album, this time from the country of Sweden. This album offers a very cool approach to melodeath with a progressive twist. Somewhat similar to heavier Opeth. Sample: A Vow to Conquer the Ocean:

Two best albums of 2012 that aren't real metalish, but good: I liked both of these quite a bit. especially the Om album. And they are metal enough

Have your heard Gojira's "L'enfant Sauvage" and/or Meshuggah's "Koloss" yet? Yes to Gojira. and then No to Meshuggah. Gojira seems to be a popular release, and I do like it, but.......I can't help but see their album title as "Elephant Sausage"

Pallbearer - Sorrow and Extinction Released way back in February, Pallbearer, who hail from the sticks of Arkansas, put out their debut album that is heavily influenced by the classic Black Sabbath sound. And they nail it. Sample: The Legend

Puteraeon - Cult Cthulhu Good old Swedish Death Metal. That distorted guitar tone just picks you up and piledrives you into the ground. Sample: Shapeshifter

Posthum - Lights Out Here we have the sophomore release of the Norwegian band Posthum. The name of the game here is midpaced black metal, that at times will drift into catchy atmospheric moments. I especially like the evil and dreary riffs Sample: Red

Mammoth Mammoth - Volume III: Hell's Likely One of my most recent discoveries. Another band from Australia. These guys play a groovy-stoner-rocking-metal. Unlike a lot of stoner style, this album doesn't plod along slowly. This album f***in' rocks!!!! Sample: Hell's Likely (Video!)

I thought Pig Destroyer's latest would have been my metal album of the year, but after 5 years and "Phantom Limb" "Book Burner" is a real disappointment. Anaal Nathrakh, with "Vanitas," get the nod once again.
Here's hoping that there's a new full-length Agoraphobic Nosebleed next year and that Genghis Tron get back together to put out some new material.
