The only thing that kills the midcard titles is them not being defended, and defended successfully, on a regular basis.

It died when Mysterio dropped it to John Morrison instead of Ziggler in 2009.

Pat Patterson killed the IC title by winning it in a match that may or may not have happened.

Ken Patera is a man who could repel an accelerating mack truck with his thighs and toss boulders through McDonalds. The only thing he killed were the hopes and dreams of anyone trying to be as cool as him. If anything the IC title brought him down.

Cody's title reign made the CHAMPION look important, but it didn't really make the TITLE look important.
Basically Cody got booked into a corner. He wasn't established enough to beat Orton, but Orton was for some reason deemed "too good" for the IC Title, so Orton ended up running Cody over in a non-title feud and it made the belt look like it didn't matter.
Christian despite his lack of momentum and lack of meaningful storylines did a better job with the belt than Cody did. Big Show, Christian, and Miz are all guys who should be going after the World Heavyweight or WWE Championships. Just by being former World Champions, they made the belt mean something just by showing interest in it.

Albert killed it back in 2001! Albert only won it so they could put it onto Lance Storm without making people go "...really? Lance storm beat HIM?"

I'd actually say it was when Cody won the belt back. Show actually had a decent moment winning the title at IC at Wrestlemania, then they gave it back to Rhodes for some reason, turned Show heel and having done nothing big with the belt since. Not like Cody was really doing anything with it before Show won it either... but yeah... the IC Title has been pretty much ignored for a long tiem.

That belt was dead before Christian even debuted in WWE! Don't blame Captain Charisma for that crap. Can't wait for Christian to come back even tho he'll be jobbing. If we're lucky maybe he can job against the Shield guys if their wrestling matches by then.

Has there ever been a time in wrestling where any of the belts have mattered as little as they do now?

Has there ever been a time in wrestling where any of the belts have mattered as little as they do now? I vaguely remember there was some point in 2007-2008 where the midcard champions were always booked in multiman world title matches.

Has there ever been a time in wrestling where any of the belts have mattered as little as they do now? A few years back when there was a long streak of the IC Title not getting defended at Wrestlemania. The titles live or die depending on when the writers choose to give a crap. It's nice the tag titles are getting attention again, I just wish the IC title would too.

Christian was all set to have a legendary reign until they were like lol let's try to push The Miz. It's still not going to work? YOUR MOMS NOT GOING TO WORK OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I agree with this 100 percent. Especially the part about your mom.

Let's be honest, Ezekiel Jackson was the switch that killed the belt. Tell me a lie and say you won't go...

Just get rid of the thing. That and the U.S. Championship.
The WWE Championship can be the top belt. The World Heavyweight Championship can be the second-tier belt.
We don't need anything else. In fact, all the way up until 1997 WWE only had two singular men's titles and it worked just fine.
