Is Tim Tebow really that bad a QB?

He hardly played for the New York Giants and while his stats were average, I think he is getting a bad rap. Some of his teammates saying he is terrible were being classless. How do they know if he hardly played?

In any case, I don't know if he's ever been bad, per se. From what I understood, he was more 'mediocre' than outright 'terrible'. But in any case, I think his criticisms largely came because the hype he was getting last year far outstripped his actual talent.

Strictly speaking ability, he's the prototypical run-first college quarterback. He can hit wide open guys, but his accuracy is very erratic.

When it comes to the stuff with his teammates, that's just a byproduct of all the media coverage he gets. Other football players get pissed seeing a backup get all this publicity for no reason.

Simple answer yes. My answer Yes he can only really use one play pattern well and that's the Wildcat because the QB has to run. He is built more like a running back than a quarter back. Even in college he wasn't that good it was the fact he had fast players he could hand the ball off to and than run. He can't throw, his accuracy is terrible and he doesn't have a good presence to find an open receiver

Tebow is a bad QB. No skills at throwing the football, which is what QB's are supposed to do. Tebow's skillset is in the H-Back position (RB/FB/TE hybrid.). If you can't get the ball down the field consistently through the air, you're useless as a QB... and Woody Johnson, the owner of the Jets is terrible for trading for him in an effort to gather back page notability. Now as a result, he's going to be short one loudmouth head coach, who incidentally was getting plenty of back page notability himself.

Pretty much.

He's a smart player and he's athletic, but he's not a great thrower. We saw him play last season and that's what he showed. He was getting more media coverage than super bowl winners last season, all for the fact that he could come from behind to barely beat awful teams while getting demolished against good teams. Oh, and for being a good person, despite the fact that the league is full of good people that just don't get coverage over the bad people who are athletes.

However, there are a lot of bad QB's in the league right now, so he's in good company. There are a lot of teams that him going to would be a wash at the worst, because there are only a few elite QBs out there right now.

As for the teammates, they see him in practice too, you know? They see themselves play a lot more than we do, so they do have a little bit more ground than any of the fans to say how good a player is.

Tebow was a great college quarterback and he's a good athlete. But he's an awful NFL quarterback.

He could develop into a good NFL QB, but the NFL has no patience for development.

Tebow was partially the victim of a horrible offensive system in Denver. John Fox is a defensive coach who fought against putting Tebow in and never adjusted the offense to his strengths. All those games that Denver won were 75%+ because of their defense. He was serviceable to a degree.

I do feel bad for him in a way since he wasn't someone who wanted the attention on himself. The only thing is that he proudly displays his faith, but a lot of athletes do that. Combine his faith, his okay-at-best QB skills, the fact that he's been a winning QB since high school and the fact that he's a good looking guy, he someone that moves the ratings needle. ESPN and Skip Bayless latched onto him and created their own agenda to get ratings. That is in no way Tebow's fault. And now he's in an impossible situation with the Jets and since the news on him dried up, every little thing is blown up and magnified.

He has not embraced the media coverage which many in his position does so I think in some ways he wants it to end. At this point he's probably going to be really happy when he goes off to do mission work in the Phillipines like his parents did.

I think that Tebow is a good leader and possesses some level of intangibles that he showed at UF and Denver, but ultimately he's not accurate enough or savvy enough to be an NFL starting QB, he's not fast enough to run the read option things that Washington, Seattle, and SF are doing and you can't rush your QB up the middle like a FB like he did at Florida and get leveled by defensive lineman and linebackers, so yes, he's a bad QB.

He did exceptionally well in college. Last season, when the starter went down, Tebow helped lead the Broncos to a run of victories to get them into the playoffs and even led them to a playoff victory with a memorable touchdown in overtime. It's a shame he hasn't had much of a chance this season. The conventional wisdom is that he is not a very good throwing quarterback and that his style works better for college of the Canadian league.

I think the NFL has patience, it just has to be for the right things. New QBs are given a solid chance to get up to speed with the NFL game, to learn to read NFL defenses and play in NFL offenses. They'll give them years, it's just that now they're expected to play immediately and take the hits unless they fall into a lucky position like Aaron Rodgers had where he could develop without being pummeled.

But what Tebow lacks is largely mechanical, and by that point in your football career, you're not really likely to change your mechanics regardless of how much time you have. In college, it worked just fine because you can lob it to fast receivers or run for 40 yards when they're covered too close. You're only playing 2 or 3 good teams a year anyways, after all. But running QB's with shaky arms don't win Super Bowls in the NFL, and when those running lanes were lost, as they're going to be much of the time against good teams, Tebow looked lost out there.

The best hope that Tebow would have for a ring as a starter would be to take the Trent Dilfer route and try to land on a team with an insane defense that'd require him to just not lose the game.

If Tebow is awful then half the QBs in the league are awful. He's not a great passer but he very seldom will make a bad play. One thing that people forget about his accuracy is that many of his missed passes were aired out to the sidelines when his receivers failed to get open. He does that a lot, and so that makes his accuracy go down, despite the fact that he's got respectable stats otherwise. He doesn't force passes. He'd make a good game manager QB for a defensive-oriented team--say San Fran, for instance.

Many of those passes had Tebow throwing it into double coverage or well off into the sidelines when there was a receiver there as well. He does that a lot too. There were a lot of passes that weren't thrown well or weren't smart decisions that somehow his receivers came down with, despite being in double coverage or having the ball under thrown. He throws his fair share of bad passes, you can't put everything on his receivers.

Last season, Tebow's hallmark was playing erratic for 3 quarters and suddenly breaking out in the fourth quarter and throwing a few great passes. You don't get a passer rating 28th out of the 34 QBs that started if you rarely make bad decisions.

No,he is not as bad as some make him out to be but he is not as good as ESPN wants him to be. He knows how to win and doesn't make many bad decisions. He does lack accuracy on his passes at times though. I think with the right team he would be a serviceable QB. What really irritates me is people like Merrill Hoge calling him phony and stuff like that. It is the network that Hoge works for that has overhyped Tebow,not Tebow himself. So Merrill needs to take issue with ESPN,not Tebow. I don't see that happening though.

Tebow was a great college QB. In the 1940s/50s/60s he might have been a great NFL QB, but the game has changed too much and the skill set that he has just doesn't fit

I'm mixed, he isn't that bad a QB. He has a winning attitude and seems to lift players around him (like the Broncos last year). The problem Tebow has is the media fascination about him, but to be fair he doesn't exactly hide from the spotlight. I have no earthly clue why the Jets traded for him, apart from the Jets being a circus and wanting attention. Sexy Rexy and Tebow-time obviously doesn't work. I think he should go to the Jags and be the face of that team, they need some identity.

So overall, not the best, not the worst. He's ok...apart from the fanaticism from the media.
